Mobile Broadband with 200+gig Per Month

Hi guys,

Currently on Optus' 200G plan for $60 a month which is the discounted price from $80. My contract is expiring towards the end of Oct.

The cheapest plan I can find for now is still Optus:

  • $65 / 200g
  • $75 / 500g

I stomped upon this active deal but it turns out it's actually expired - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/506169

I already have a unlocked modem and doesn't need much support so just trying to find the cheapest plan possible with good amount of data.

What'd be your best pick besides the two listed above?

TIA.

    • Thanks for the link. I am trying to avoid churning again in 6 months. Also some of the people in that deal said they got charged after leaving……….which is a concern to say at least.

Circles Life can = world of pain but good for some people…

Telstra is doing 200gb data sim @ $75 month to month

    Flybuys x Optus promo: 200gb 24mths (free modem) +15k flybuys $65pm; 500gb 24mths (free modem) +25k flybuys $75pm

Option to go month to month if you pay for modem upfront.
I'm assuming you have an Optus ACS800 or B525? - the B818 modem in this i believe is a cat 19. Good resell on these modems at the moment

ACNPacific (Amaysim) 220gb per 30 days $50 but you will need to find a IBO partner.

Spintel - uncapped speed 200gb $54.95; 500gb $69.95 no contract; 12mth contract = $100 credit, must buy or rent modem

    • That's some great deals. Thanks a lot.

    • ACNPacific (Amaysim) 220gb per 28* days $50 but you will need to find a IBO partner.

Have Optus confirmed your price will change? Some plans carry over at the same rate once the contract ends, unless otherwise acted on

    • most likely bundled a modem previously with Optus.
Price will remain the same but you've already paid off your piece of tech so it's a good idea to see what else is available on the market or recontract and get a new piece of tech.

    • I chatted to them via the Optus app today and unfortunately they said they'd remove a 25% discount at the end of contract. I told him I'd be happy to sign another 2 years to retain this price but he said he'd only negotiate AFTER my contract expires. A little bit weird tbh.

  • I got the $68 a month plan with Optus at the time, asked them for just the sim so used my own modem, but had to go in and ask for it and they put me on the month to month plan. I will say though that they still did a credit check on me for a month to month plan, which dropped my "excellent" down to the next one which still annoys me to this day.

If you're lucky I'd go for the 5g plan:

    $70 unlimited 5G speed (50Mbps guaranteed)

which dropped my "excellent" down to the next one

I don't believe that will have any real bearing to any further credit applications.

Apart from the fact lenders will see a credit app with a Telco (not a debt account), they all have their own set of things they check.

    • That $70 price is probably coming with a decent profit-margin for Optus.
Yet, it makes NBN prices seem like highway robbery.

I wonder if they can guarantee 1,000 Gbps using 5G in the near future. Combine that with an Unlimited Data plan, and priced at $120/month or lower… that would be the final nail in the coffin for NBN.

  • Telstra $15 extra small plan does me just fine for unlimited. I find the shaped speed after 5gb to be more than tolerable… maybe not if you want 4k netflix etc though.
