Targus Aca42auz Aca42auz, USB-C Demultiplexer Adapter (3-Pin), Dl Type, 50w Charging $17+Shipping @ Skycomp Technology

30

This came up in the top line when I loaded PriceHipster, hope it's useful to someone. PHipster showing this one just down from $80 though it says RRP $100, other vendors upwards of $84. I tested a few postcodes and shipping was $15 and up. Even with postage it seems a good deal if you were after one (I have no suggestions for "Demultiplexer " use, perhaps others can suggest, TIA)

So if you have a USB C dock, this converts from the USB C connection to a new type laptop to a DC jack and USB (3?) connector for an older laptop, letting you used the dock.

  • Shame there isn't more information in this post, and in the associated link; I sure as hell haven't come across a "demultiplexer adapter" in my internet travels!

    From the manufactures website:

This USB-C™ De-multiplexer was engineered to work with Targus USB-C docking stations with Power Delivery (PD). Complete with a USB-C port and two cables — one that transmits power and another that transmits data

So it looks like you can connect a Targus USB C dock to this adapter, which breaks out power and data over a barrel pin connector and a USB 3.0 connector, if you have the need to connect a dock to an older laptop that doesn't support USB C connectivity.

I don't have the need for it (so my exploration ends here), but I wonder if there is any reason why you can't plug any USB C dock into this, and not just a Targus USB C dock?

    • 50W charging might be limiting - laptop chargers are often significantly higher, like 90W…

Edit : ignoring the dock part, this might be a way to replace any 50W laptop charger with a USB charger ? I'm in !

      • ^ USB = USB-C

      • I'm glad someone has a use for this - definitely cheaper than other places online (by more than half even with delivery), but certainly more a targeted-use item :)

Thanks too for the explanations and suggestion, all
