Wow that's a pretty good price drop. Bought one of these for my 13 year old son for school BYOD around a month ago at $1599.

Overall pretty decent for the price. Seems they reconfigured the cooling system since the 2019/9th gen versions of these, which was a horrible setup. 2019/9th gen had shared CPU/GPU heatpipes into a dual fan setup all on one side. 2020/10th gen (this model anyway - AN515-55) has dedicated CPU and GPU heatpipes/fans on either side. Only thing that I can add is it's got a pretty decent amount of fan noise when gaming.

  • I might get this one. Any chance those rainbow lights can be turned off??

Yeah, it can be turned off or regular white backlight. https://imgur.com/drfpiEu

Pretty sure its 4 zone RBG. You should be able to configure it in Nitrosense (Acer's control software for their gaming laptops) to be static/dynamic and whatever colour you want across whichever zones. So you can say set it static and set colour to white across all 4 zones and have just a white backlight. Or just turn it off completely.
Perhaps go have a look in store and have a play with it. I'd check with my son's to 100% confirm but he isn't home at the moment. Pretty sure this is applicable only on the 2020 models also.

  • What’s the refresh rate on the screen if anyone knows it’s not on the website

    • 144

60hz on this model. I think there are other models with 120hz or 144hz (not even sure if Harvey Norman stock them).

      • Tried searching the specific model number but not sure guy above you says 144hz, Acer website seems to indicate 144 but I’m gonna guess you’re right about 60hz at this price and you say you’ve bought it

I just checked my receipt to make sure its the same product code from Harvey Norman as what is listed here (NH.Q7NSA.002). Can confirm the one I bought on 28th of July is 60hz.

        • Gotta assume its 60hz. They would advertise the fact it is 144hz if it was as that’s a pretty big feature for a cheap laptop.

  • Jbhifi has a pretty similar spec dell one on sale too.

The Dell G3 JB have is an i5-10300H, 256gb ssd and GTX 1650.

This is an i7-10750H, 512gb ssd with GTX 1650 Ti.

      4core processor vs 6core processor
      256gb ssd vs 512gb ssd
      1650 vs 1650 Ti

I'd hardly say its similar specced.

      • It comes with 1TB Hard drive with that 256GB Drive. Depends how much storage you want internal.
And it has a better 120hz display. Build quality of Dell > Acer.

Is the i7 and the Ti GPU much better over the i5?

  • can someone explain why is it not allowed to post deals from acer site directly?

they have a deal on ex-demo 24" 144Hz monitor, $249 delivered, but I am unavailable to post.

    whatever

    https://online.acer.com.au/acer/store/predator-xb2-24-inch-f…

ps I am not related to acer in any way

    • Availability, availability, availability… ex-demo's and refurbished items are only sold in increments of one item so if the availability isn't there you can't make it a deal.

    • Acer is currently rep-banned for sockpuppeting, First-time deal posters cannot currently submit deals for Acer.

If you need to submit something you'll need to contact a moderator https://www.ozbargain.com.au/forum/10041 and ask for an exception

  • Anyone know the screen brightness and colour accuracy?

    • I cannot find specific info on this

  • How much would it cost to add another 8GB of RAM?

  • Just picked up mine but power adaptor is not AU.

    • Call Acer with your product serial number and say you got a laptop that doesn't have AU plug, they should send you one at no charge. 1300 975 035

      • Thanks mate. I'll definitely give them call on Monday. Support at HN Thomastown is not that great. I called them and guy didn't even believe me. I have sent them email with photos, but still no reply from them. I purchased a travel adaptor from Bunnings and it not that great.
Anyways Laptop is nice. I will upgrade RAM in the future. ATM 8GB looks like more than sufficient for me.

        • Wait what, why wouldn't he believe you?

Who the hell buys a laptop, wants to rip the store off and is like "Yeah, charger isn't AU plug". I'd believe that customer because that would seem like a strange way to try and rip off a store.

          • @BarginGrabber: I called store again this morning. There manager is going to look into the issue on Monday. Told by staff to send email again. Did that but still no reply. I am going to call Acer in the morning as well.
It is not a big issue as it is not full power brick issue, it is just the cable bit with plug. I can order from ebay, but if I am purchasing device from Australia, it should atleast come with AU plug.

  • Is this the 10th gen i7?

  • Picked one up on friday, so far so good. Temps can get warm on both cpu and gpu, but i applied a -150mV undervolt and i havent seen it go above 60 degrees so far when gaming.
Next step is more ram and possibly another storage drive!
