even better if you have a Huawei phone with this

    • +2

Yup, the ones with EMUI 10, so newish ones.

    • +2

      Why's that?

  • +3

Oh wow this is awesome price

  • no mx graphics card this time around with the i7 model? odd

    • +2

Just a discrete MX250, which is OK for some light gaming in between some work ;)

      • +30

I usually do some light work in between a lot of gaming ;)

    Any reviews from user here?

I have the original model and love it. Excellent bright high-res screen, great touchpad, is slim and light, and looks great.

Thinking to pull the trigger .

Me too, I have a nice Yoga 4k from a year ago though, not sure what to do? Is there any eBay coupon atm?

          • @[Deactivated]: I also need something with touch screen to play with, using macbook atm. Too many options to choose from in Windows.

            • @Modesty: I am happy with my YOGA ($k/touch/i7/1TB SSD but freezes sometimes), I do have powerful PC for video/photo /game and heavy stuff, still feel like buying it, don't know what to do!

              • @[Deactivated]: How much did you buy that for? You recommend that for normal usage, media consumption?

                • @Modesty: around $1300 through ozb from eBay.

Might be a one-off experience, but my friend sent his Matebook to me for repair since he didn't live close to a repair centre. He had power issues a year into buying it, it would switch off randomly.

I sent the laptop on his behalf to Huawei service centre to be repaired, and it came back physically damaged - cracked screen, bent chassis, warped USB port. They also claimed it was sent in this state and therefore the damage was not covered under warranty. They did not repair the power issues.

It took a LOT of back and forth and complaining before Huawei finally agreed, a month later, to repair the laptop in its entirety. This is despite having representatives that observed and recorded the power defects prior to the laptop being sent in (when there was no physical damage). So I guess overall it worked out, but it was a stressful experience.

I'd get it if you're OK with subpar customer support. Personally, at this price point I'd just go for a more reputable brand.

Could it have been damaged in transport on the way to them?

        • Yes it's possible, but it felt bad regardless for your laptop come out worse than when you sent it in and have warranty denied for things you didn't do. AusPost assumed no fault of course, so it was just people pointing fingers for ages. It's not like Huawei couldn't fix it, they just chose not to until my mate put on his Karen hat for a month

    • I have the original too and the screen is a great size but still lightweight and portable. I bought my wife a dell xps 13 and the xps 13 looks puny in comparison.

    only 9 available thou

      This has an MX250.

Very expensive for what it is - with that money you could get an XPS13 from the Dell Outlet with Iris Plus graphics instead of UHD graphics.

Not only does this have an Nvidia MX250, it's brand-new, comes with a 10th gen i7, a very bright 3000x2000 touchscreen, and a large good touchpad.

The XPS13s at the Dell Outlet start at $1,979 for a refurbished 8th gen i7 with Intel UHD graphics.

    • How do you like the 4:3 screen, as compare to the 16:9 one?

      • +6

I much prefer the 3:2 screen to 16:9 ones. 16:9 is really only good for watching videos. Browsing websites and doing work is much better on a 3:2 screen IMHO.

      • +2

Excellent, if you do a lot of coding… For other things, you get used to it, imho!

    • There's currently no good stock for a refurb Dell, I picked up an i7-1065G7 with a 4K screen for $1,900 two weeks ago - the FHD+ version was ~$1,700. XPS13 9300 has a great trackpad as well.

As I said above, the MX250 is only 10% faster than Iris Plus graphics, with way more power draw/battery drain.

And I'd consider dealing with Dell for a refurb unit about equivalent with dealing with an eBay seller for a Huawei laptop.

Mobileciti is a local retail store and have been in business for a loooong time. If you prefer buying a refurb over a brand new laptop for the same price, that's up to you.

        • -2

But either you're dealing with the Australian distributor for Huawei or they will be on your behalf. Not like Mobileciti is going to be cracking open your laptop at their B&M in Sydney fixing it if there's any issues.

          • +1

@frowny: Right, so what's the issue there?

    • +6

people complain about ccp bots and literally half your comments are posting fake articles about huawei nice

State backed businesses don’t go out of business, they just rebrand.

Separately this thing is gorgeous to use in person.
      Bright screen is bright.
I wonder how well it runs Fedora

      • +1

I did look into linux support for these things a while back (model with 8th gen) and it seemed ok but missing some things. No fingerprint sensor, only 2 of the four speakers worked, some shortcut keys didn't work, pretty sure there was no Thunderbolt, etc.

  • +1

Great price for this laptop, especially with the discount!
Just be aware of some performance issues with this laptop.

  • this vs Lenovo Flex 5 which is for around $900? Looking for laptop with touch screen with some decent specs.

  • Just buy a similar Dell/Lenovo/Asus/HP/Acer Ryzen 5 or 7 laptop when they have 30% off they are MUCH faster. If you really want intel the 1065g7 is 10nm instead of 14nm for the 10510u so the battery life will be a touch better…

    • +2

I really hope every manufacturer starts using Ryzen 4000-series processors for all their lines. It'll give Intel a kick up the arse.

If one can't wait though, this is a pretty good laptop. Especially for that price!

      • +1

That's right. Everyone thinks that intel are done. They are by no means done. They have soooo much money in the bank its not funny. They purposely didn't innovate because there was no strong competition and didn't care when they had all the business, hence why they just released incremental updates to chips and hyped them with marketing. This will prompt Intel to make some good stuff again which is a good thing for consumers…

        • Perhaps, they should enbrace the only the paraoid survive doctrine again.

        • They have soooo much money in the bank its not funny.

Maybe they should use all that money to buy a fab that can handle a 7nm process node. ;)

          • @eug: I think they are about double the size of every part of TSMC financially (Operating income, revenue, total assets and total equity). They could actually just buy them if they really wanted to lol.

    • I would love to, but so far I have not seen any offers with decent screens (such as the one in this Huawei, for example) anywhere close to this price.

  • +1

    anyway, this is great value.

  • +2

been waiting for a matebook x pro sale for 3 years….and now when it comes, i've already got another laptop.

Will wait for the next one

  • +1

It a rippper price. Brought a matebok 13 6 month ago for 1400. I will definitely buy this one if I have not brought that one

  • I think the price just went up?

    • +2

Yes, it went up. Your last chance is here.

      • +1

Out of stock at kogan as well

    • You're right, it's $2798.. maybe it was a price error. I would have expected that spec to cost about $2798. I wonder if they'll honor the orders.

      • Did you already buy one?

        • Nope, I'm actually happy with my 2018 model. A friend of mine did buy this one though.

  • +1

Great price for a great laptop.
How the webcam works is creative but rather interesting…

  • How do you get $1,798? it's showing as $2,798

    • Looks like a price error? It was definitely showing $1798 when I opened the link not long ago.

      • Lol, now $1000 more

        • Blink and you miss it
I'm currently more looking for 2-in-1 convertible laptop anyway

    • Seller increase price

  • Gotta be pricing error. Someone pressed 1000 instead if 2000

  • Just grabbed it, it's still on dick Smith and kogan, exact same seller

    • Lol sold out already.. damnn

    • Its saying sold out for me

  • +2

Great price, love Huawei products. —-From a happy P30 Pro owner.

  • Is dick Smith a reliable seller? Through Mobileciti?

    • dick smith is just kogan.

so, i would cross out the 'support' part.

      mobileciti are reliable though.

  • +1

wonder if they'll honour it, or cancel it like all the recent pricing errors

    • Isn't it illegal if the sale has been made?

      • no.

and not if it's in the terms and conditions, which it always is.

they could always say it's out of stock, today.

        • where can you see these purchase status? ebay?

        • How did u find this out?

          • +1

@JoshTutts: You need to open through browser or desktop.
There will be a link on the adv saying available quantity and sold ones.
click on sold link and it takes you to the history as here

  • Well I suppose someone is going to spy on you anyway, be it Apple, MS or Huawei

  • +4

My friend's Kogan order just got cancelled and refunded. Guess the price error was too large.

    • Ugh that sucks. I almost ordered it from kogan.

  • +1

I purchased it off Kogan last night and received an email this morning saying it was cancelled and refunded.

    • Too bad. I wonder those ordered from ebay whether they got cancelled…
