I know it is not an as good price as the $499 offer a couple of months back but i think it is still worth the $679. Can't find anything even comparable for that money. Shipping to Vic shows as $8

$679 for 8 series at the end of 2020 is….

A great bargain. A 2014 Macbook costs that much, this unit was only releases around two years ago.

It is a brand new unit. Obviously not the newest model but it is still brand new.

      • How do companies get "brand new" units that are more than 4 years discontinued … I'm not saying that it's not new, I am just curious as i want to know how the "system" works …. unless they have like 2 in stock?? I am genuinely curious ….

It is not 4 but around 2.5 years old. I guess Lenovo would have discontinued the product while having still stock and decided to sell it cheap to student suppliers…

They are definitely not more than 4 years old as the i5 8250U processor did not even exist 4 years ago. The processor was only released at the end of 2017 and is still currently shipping till Jan 2021.

That means the tablet is probably around 2 years old.

          • @eug: i5-8250u is a decent CPU too. 14nm, 4 core, 8 thread - not that much different from current i5s.

Fingerprint readers are underrated if you divide up your work/home setups to different account and use different fingers to log in.

Keyboard and pen included so it's much cheaper than a Surface.

This is not that much more expensive than a attach-to-computer-style drawing tablet from Huion or XP-Pen. It might be a good starter if you have an aspiring artist in the family and you want something more capable than the iPad/Pencil combo.

    • 500 would be around the age of the 700. 520 is two generations newer. The first number is the tier, the second is the generation.

That said this is a 2018 laptop. Not current gen, but serviceable and maybe worth it for the price. Not many tablet form factor Windows machines nowadays.

  • stock availability might be an issue too, only La Trobe University City Campus avail for pick up, not sure about shipping though

  • This looks good - obviously not the best price but beats my Chuwi Ubook

I’d get them to confirm it is a new unit.
Have called to enquire on advertised stock a couple of times previously with this co. to be told they were ex-display etc.

    • Two of my friends bought it during the $499 deal. They were brand-new and sealed.

      • Different seller?

        • Good point, I mixed the two sellers up. I suppose the point is that new sealed Miix 520 stock is available out there.

  • Similar, bought what I thought was new MacBook 12" in august 2018. But apparently was December 2016 stock, so Apple wouldn't repair it under warranty without going via school locker as an authorised reseller to chase up the repair.I was advised to ring apple to see if they could ascertain/ confirm my purchase invoice. Then they were able to alter it and fix it under warranty.(Had I not found someone at Apple to kindly assist I would had to go via another labourious school locker route). (Long story short it was exdisplay 12/2016 stock).

    • I got the $499 deal. Lenovo showed the warranty as expired, but I contacted them and sent the invoice, and it was fixed easily.

If you like these 2 in 1s, this is still a very good deal. A new surface pro is more then double this price, and no pen or keyboard included!

There is not a huge difference between 8th and 10th gen i5.

This is a pro-consumer feature, not an issue.

Many companies now track the date of manufacture from the serial number. If it was made within 12m, it's obviously within the warranty period so you don't have supply the invoice.

At worst, you're in the same position as normal and you supply a receipt and get 12m warranty from the date you bought it.

  • I bought it last time for $499+ shipping. Very happy with it. But only 128gb ssd. This one 256 gb so more expensive.

  • Thanks for sharing OP!

I bought the miix 510 years ago and its still going strong.. I have a Surface Pro 3 and it works pretty much the same..
I am pretty happy with it, so this one should be even better!
