Sharp R350EW 1200W Inverter Microwave - White $199 at The Good Guys

170

Haven't posted a deal for a long time I had phantom memory that I posed a deal before but turns out this is my first post… If there is anything wrong with wording, please do not hesitate to let me know so that I can correct it…

Smoked my old Sharp microwave that lasted 6 years by overheating dumplings… Then I try to find a new one and this come into my radar.

I just purchased one so not 100% sure how good is this yet. Pricing wise, this is the cheapest for this model I found so far. HN selling this for $215 and other places like ApplianceOnline does not have this in stock.

The downside for this is it is in-store only, may not be able to use the latitude Pay discount. For Victorian (like me), you need to call in a particular store near you (if there is one) and they will confirm the stock and send you an SMS to finalise the payment.

EDIT:

Thanks to MrChum's suggestion in the comment, if you need this to be delivered, this is Also listed here at $199 with free delivery at ApplianceGiant

  • How does it behave? We have an inverter we were given. It's a biotch to actually make it run when it wants to do a cooling cycle.

As in I have to open and shut the door and hit start. Sometimes multiple times. And always.. Even if it's 100% cold because it wasn't even in prior use.

It's so crap it's scared me off inverters.

We had the Sharp R395 and don't recall any such issue with cooling cycle hindering the next microwave job. Sharp microwaves do a great job of heating and often rank highly on choice.

    Mmmmmmmm dumpings

    • Haha it was a typo, although the dumpling smells worse than dumpings after that..

      • Ha Ha, you now have a grammar error :)
        Good luck.

I'm holding out on a deal for the trusted Neochef, but they seemed to have dried up recently

    • I was doing the same since my cheap-o K-mart unit packed it in. But the inconvenience of not having a microwave, plus the realisation that I would wait ages for a deal on the SS specific model that matches the kitchen, means I had to pull the trigger.

Got a 42L SS model from Billy Guyatts for $274 w/ a $15 discount coupon (found here). With $26.89 shipping to my door, it came in at $285.89, which was $25-$50 less than most places were selling it for, and only $25-$50 more than a factory 2nd/refurb, so I was content with that.

Only issue is that I ordered it in mid-Aug and it's backordered until mid-Sept. Thankfully, no deals have sprung up in the interim… ;)

I know ozbargain loves the Neochef but apart from the looks I'm not much of a fan. The smallest increment it has increases time by 10 seconds. Want to heat up for 15 seconds, well too bad you're going to have to have 20 and stop it at 15. You also can't just type in 5min for example, you have to manually scroll the + timer across until it reaches 5 min, not the end of the world but just adds more time and effort to what should be a brainless task. The chime actually gets annoying after awhile, would just rather a normal microwave alarm as it finishes. To top things of our first 1 died after about 10 months, was replaced without any questions though so that was good. Anyway our previous sharp microwave was a lot better than the neochef imo.

Why do microwaves still have cheap LED displays that look like something out of 1985? With 35 years of technological advancement, surely they could put better looking displays on the ovens for a few cents more.

Why do microwaves still have cheap LED displays that look like something out of 1985?

My mother of 80+ has a microwave with two dials, one for time and the other for power. She was happy with it until one day the door stopped working, the oven wouldn't start. I was ready to get her super duper oven but she wouldn't have it, just wants one similar to hers, reason being it's too complicated for her to operate (she can't read English). So I had to deconstruct the oven door and found the plastic door catch was broken. With a paper clip I managed to get the thing working again. So she is now happy with her 30+ year-old oven. Not everyone wants a new technology.

      • By that same argument, I'm sure some people are happy to have a car with a simple AM/FM radio, CD player, and nothing more. No fancy steering wheel controls, gizmos, touch screens, or other gadgets. But there is no longer a single car on the market that doesn't have a touchscreen.

  • I'm well and truly in the market to upgrade my ~5yo Aldi machine - can anyone provide some info on inverters? In my research I've pretty much convinced myself that's what I'm after, and in doing so have also found the versions that don't actually rotate the food meaning you get far more space inside for plates. Anyone have one of these with an opinion either way?

I previously had a Panasonic Inverter without a carousel for about 8 years before it decided to die on me last month. It was a good microwave, easy to clean, and heated the food relatively evenly but would continue operating once the timer had finished to perform the cool-down function. In the end, it had an issue with the door catch which would affect the power supply to the unit and wouldn't stay powered on anymore. The added room was nice, but I never put a lasagna tray in it like they advertise.

Recently bought another Panasonic Inverter with a carousel [NN-ST665BQPQ] and it probably performs slightly better due to the rotational aspect of heating (could be a placebo effect - who knows). This one doesn't continue to operate once heating is finished like my last unit, but it is a fingerprint magnet (stainless steel model) and the LCD display is blue which I find a bit difficult to read. The interior light just blew due to a power surge but Panasonic gave me a number to call and it was quickly replaced basically on the spot. I chose this one because the LG Neochef doesn't have a kitchen timer and my last one was pretty good all in all.

      Hope that helps

      • ++1 I have a Panasonic F01709J40QP, one with a carousel and inverter and a cooling down function. Its been going strong since 2013/2014. It has survived 2 interstate moves and 1 year in long term storage, a few power outages etc. You can if you want to heat things for 1 second if you feel you need to.

We have this microwave, it died 3 days after the warranty expired. Basically it stopped heating food, would take 5mins to heat something that normally would take 1 min previously.

Good Guys said they won't do replacement, rules are rules and said I needed to talk to sharp.
After a lot of back n forth with Sharp support they eventually agreed to repair it under warranty for free. Took it to a local repair place, they changed out the magnatron (the microwave bit basically, seems like a $100 part). worked great for another month. Now the LED light randomly flickkers on/off during heating, sometimes turns off completly, sometimes flickers on/off when the door is open.

Yeah as mentioned by others this one will run the fan on full after the timer expires for about a minute to cool it down, bit annoying / extra noise late at night after the heating is completed. Not a fan now, we have a 20 year old Sharp that we still use for our business, still works perfectly with no issues!!!

  • I bought one March this year at $157.6 on TGG Ebay store with 20% offer and also got $50 WISH egift card from Sharp promotion then.

  • Work bought this to replace a very old Panasonic. First one stopped heating food within the first week.

The new replacement worked for about 3 weeks before it's light died and it too stopped heating food, and throwing up errors.

The third unit also died soon after use (throwing up another error). The Good guys were great throughout, but I wouldn't go anywhere near this model…

Something is seriously wrong with the circuitry design or isolation in this model. The steam produced from heating food seem to adversely affect the unit & it's light (stops working, or flicking on/off whilst operating). Unit eventually dies.

Finally they paid the difference and bought a Panasonic which as been working fine for the past 18 months.

  • Why do all these new inverter microwaves need cool down cycles whereas the older non-inverter microwaves were fine??

    • Cool down the heat and remove the steam is my guess

      • yeah but my query was why have these cool down cycles only appears since inverter microwaves? Older style microwaves didn't need this?

The inverter must heat up after the fans turn off

Why does the word 'COOL' keep appearing in the display of my Microwave?
The word COOL is displayed when the microwave goes into a cooling cycle. The cool cycle is a feature that ensures the operating components of the microwave (Inverter and Magnetron) are cooled after operation by running the fan inside the microwave.

The cooling function is activated whenever the microwave runs for over 3 minutes or is operated twice within a 10 minute period. The word COOL is displayed to tell you why the fan is still running.

You do not have to wait for the cool cycle to complete before using the microwave again, simply enter the cooking operation you wish to perform and the cool cycle will stop and the microwave will perform the cooking operation you have jsut entered.
