    Tent Advice.
    6 person usually equals 3 to 4
    4 Person usually equals 2 to 3.

    :)

    • Thank you

    • I can't remember what it was exactly but last years was even smaller than expected, ie the measurements were the outside ones or something. I usually work on half the stated capacity is the real capacity, took it back in the end.

      • I know, those 0.2mm thick walls really detract from the space!!!

(Yes, I do know that these are most likely double skinned)

        • +1

:) Yes it was the outer fly measurement they had advertised not the internal

    • the people making them must be very small

    • +1

      Yes, at most.
8.1m2 is equivalent to a very small bedroom, for size comparisons.

6 hobbits usually equals to 3 to 4 humans
4 hobbits usually equals to 2 to 3 humans

      • That's what I put! LOL!
I didn't use the word Hobbits though.

    • True.

3 person max ,got a similar one from Aldi very easy to put up. Not a bad tent at all.

  • I wonder if these are the oem Coleman tents

    • most likely. i bought some bond socks and then aldi socks. they were identical minus the bond name at the bottom. so much cheaper too.

    • Dimensions or materials don't at all match the Coleman Instant Up series… but that's not to say the same manufacturer isn't building it.

    • I think a lot of Aldi products are sourced by 'Tempo', just like Big W, Kmart, HN etc.

    • If anything, it may be possible to compare with only the Silver series from Coleman, but I haven't had a look at the specs. The Gold series is worth a look though as they are higher quality for an good price at Snowys/Tentworld :)

This looks to be the Coleman rebadged tent they had about 18 months ago.
The last tent they tried selling was the dodgy half fly tent that was useless.
This Coleman tent is easy to put up and a great tent for the price. They also often don’t sell and will probably end up in the discount area in 6 weeks to save another $20-$40!

Always wait for it to be discounted

  • Does anyone know the dimensions of these when folded up? I was about to buy one last round, but it wouldn't have fit across the boot of my Outlander.

    • Rotate it 90 degrees. Problem solved.

      • I'm not sure I would have got the tailgate shut.
I might be completely wrong, which is why I'm hoping someone who has one can post the measurements.

Are you not laying the rear seats down?

          • @[Deactivated]: No, my kids dislike the taste of their own knees.

Wait, is everyone else going camping in a 6-person tent with only 2 people?

Edit: wait, did you mean the third row? Third row seats are definitely folded down flat. If it won't fit across, I'm not sure it will fit front-back ways either.

            • @Thrifty McGifty: Sorry, I assumed you were going without kids based on tent size. We're using a 10 person tent for 2 people.

            • @Thrifty McGifty: "Wait, is everyone else going camping in a 6-person tent with only 2 people?"

              yes..

Are your kids very small? you might want to look into the 8-10 person tent otherwise

    • This may be of no help at all because I haven't seen this one, but the coleman version which I have fits across the boot of my barina.. feel like you'll be ok

    • For the record, the 6-person tent is 123x21x21cm when packed down. It's quite long, I have to fit it diagonally in my boot.

      Internal usable dimensions are 2.8 x 2.5m.

If you're using the self-inflating mats, I'd estimate you could fit 4 people across, with enough room at the door-end to put your bags.
If you're using one of those inflatable queen mattresses, then I'm guessing there'd only be room for one more single down the side.

  • Anyone have an idea of the weight of these tents?

  • 'with 2000mm PU coating'
    Now, that's some thick stuff!

  • This 4 person tent for $129 or 2 person tent from Kathmandu for $139. I would only ever have 2 people in the tent

    • +1

Completely different tents, Retreat 40 will be much smaller and lighter and has a far higher rain level… but also as above a 2 person tent its generally 2 people very close together… if you want a little space you will want a 3 or 4 person.

      • depends what sort of camping you are doing, but I'd go for this one.. i reckon it would be quicker to put up, you can stand up better inside & if it rains you can fit all your stuff inside or at least under the canopy. Cons would be that it probably takes up a lot more room folded than the kathmandu and is probably much heavier to carry. Water proofing would be better on the kathmandu and sometimes is where they cut corners on these cheaper tents but it sounds ok here and for what it's worth, the coleman tent I have which is really similar to this one has never leaked even in very heavy storm rain.

    • this is also an instant up tent. easier to setup than a retreat. With this, you just lay it on the ground, pull it up, then tension the corners and guylines, no need for tent poles

  • Not sure if there is another post for the upcoming Camping range Special Buys, but I want to know if the 3m mesh mat is comparable to the Oztrail Ultramesh tarp. Anyone know which is better? Also, the 3.65m heavy duty tarp looks alright for $20..

Finally, a truly affordable piece of property that I could afford in the land down under!
