Damn, the one I paid $567 earlier in the year is still sitting in the box.

    • I try to remind myself to only buy if I know I will use it in the next month because technology is always improving and becoming cheaper.

      I often fail.

      • We built a house and got it just before moving. But I still haven't even found the time to put everything into the patch panel.

        • Hopefully it takes you less time than me. I think it was eight, possibly 10 years between moving in and having a proper data cabinet installed.

  • I heard this does not have a temp sensor

    Managed 24-Port Fanless Switch $525.35

Why do people dislike it so much?

    • It overheats

      Maybe.

      • i'm trying to work out it you understood JV's joke and have formulated a crafty response that is beyond me?
or did that comment from JV slip through to the keeper?

He is saying that there are no fanatical supporters of it and if they are not fanatical supporters then they must dislike it. I am saying it might be because it may overheat as the description of it says it has no whizzy things in it which move air to enable heat management.

          • @rodericb: shucks - here I was just thinking JV was making a play on words ..
"fanless" - ie no fans ie no one likes it

            :)

            • @dr_ rusko: That could be the root cause of people disliking it…. Essentially it's fanless because it's fanless…..

If you're looking at some thing to run a decent amount of PoE devices, better off getting the other 24 port switch: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ubiquiti-Networks-UniFi-24-port-…

Reason being once you start to load up on PoE devices you'll quickly be able to go past the wattage on this model (figure about 6w per G3 camera without the extra infra-red addon - they only rate them around 4w but i've seen people suggest 6w being more realistic: https://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_Video_G3_DS.pdf)

The USW-24-POE also only has 16 ports PoE, US-24-250W-AU (as far as I can tell) is full PoE, and they cost the exact same amount..

Only down side to the US-24-250W-AU is that it has a fan, and can generate some noise. I've been on the fence about picking one up, as I've just purchased a UDM-P, US-8-60W, 3x G3 cameras and a AC lite to play around with.

    • I am looking to get 3 x nanohd ap's 3 x G3 pro cameras will this be okay?

    • Just remember, the cheaper G3 cameras are also 24V Passive POE which these switches don't support. You can find out which ones support it here.

      • Did not realise that! Just had a panicked look at the model of G3 I purchased (UVC-G3-Bullet) which is 802.3af along with my switch thankfully. I didn't realise they had passive 24v cameras.. It's my weekend project to set it all up and start learning the unifi way!
