Ubiquiti UniFi US-8-60W-AU $175 + Delivery @ Harris Technology

230

Seems like a good price for this network switch popular with UniFi AP owners. 8 gigabit ports, 4 with PoE.

If anyone wants a cheaper unmanaged 8 port poe switch, this TP-Link one for $79 is quite good. I've been using it for a year now with no issue, powering multiple unifi AP's just fine https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged…

Or the managed version at MSY for $89 https://www.msy.com.au/tp-link-tl-sg108pe-8-port-gigabit-des…

    • Thanks for the recommend!

Is there any benefit at all from using the Unifi Switch apart from paying the 'brand tax' and having a nicer looking switch to put in the cabinet?

I am wondering that the Unifi Switch above posted by OP has that the TP-Link does not have.

Does the TP-Link interface not as well as the Unifi Switch with a Unifi Router and APs?

I think it depends on what you want to do with your setup. The unifi switch will show up on the unifi controller software and can be managed from there, whereas the TP-Link managed model has its own UI address.

Personally, I have the unifi controller software running on a htpc, and only use my TP-Link as a poe power source for 2 unifi AP's, as well as a couple of gigabit networked PC's - so I just went for the cheapest option :)

The Unifi switch fits in to the Unifi eco system, its not just a typical switch.

If you have nothing else Unifi then you will hardly benefit from it except to say its just a good quality switch.

        • When you say that it is not just a typical switch but 'fits in with the Unifi eco system' … I am not sure if that means extra features are available?

Does it simply mean the 'switch' will be activated on the UI?

Or are you saying that the switch is actually a managed switch?

I am not sure what the extra value is - just genuinely curious. Please enlighten me!

          • @mojito33: The Unifi software is a network management solution that along with other Unifi products, will work together and provide a more advanced network set up. And yes there are plenty more features that will come along it.
