Not a sale per say but I noticed these were quite abit cheaper compared to local Aussie stock. Thought I'd post incase someone would be interested. I considered them myself but I really shouldn't.

You're right, this is a good price. I don't like that it's an international order, but if you can get past that, these would be a good buy.

I will buy these one day, but I've spent too much on headphones. Currently have Audeze LCD-2's clamped to my head.

  • anything cheap with the beyerdynamic range? in the 200 to 400 range? or less?

    • Yea the DT 880 goes on sale here sometimes

      edit: very occasionally

    • You can get 990 pro in that range all day. I love them:

    • If you haven't got any yet, check out the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R. Although it is marketed as a gamer headphone, it has some really good audiophile qualities for the price. Most people say the sound is fun and it does not have the Beyer 'death treble'. The only downside to this model is the non-detachable cable. Minidisc currently sells it for $349 ($100 discount from the normal $449).

    Great cans.

Agree. Some might find them a a bit too "clinical" (and they are totally unforgiving on a poorly-produced track) but I've used mine almost every day for 18mths and couldn't be happier.

  • Would these be a (substantial) upgrade on HD600's?

    • +1

Probably not, as I believe HD600 mids are likely better.

Read the first review from here (guy compares it to HD600):
      https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/beyerdynamic-dt-1990-pro.21…

      • Any idea of a set of cans under 1k that would be a big upgrade on HD600's?

        • From my own experience (I own the HD6xx) and from forums I have read (headfi, reddit), HD 600 is very hard to find a clear upgrade over as not many headphones do mid (vocals) as well as them, not even TOTL headphones like HD 800s and Beyer T1 can beat the HD600 in every category.
It really depends on what you find lacking in HD 600 that you think can improve and also what type of music you listen to, and then go from there.

You are probably better to ask for opinions on Headfi, as may much more experienced audiophiles on there.

          • @bruc3: Thanks for the info. It's not that I find them lacking really in anything, except one side of the headphones recently stopped working. I was unsure how expensive it was to fix them (or how to do so) and was going to consider an upgrade. Overall I loved them though.

Different flavor. Hd600 honestly better for chilling out or listening to pop music. Beyer cans are sibilant, not all songs will sound good..

    • DT1990 is way better than HD600. It is an allrounder. Anyway, it all comes down to your personal taste.

  • I've been looking at replacing my sennheiser gsp 500. Anyone used these for pc gaming?

Since I don't listen to music or watch movies with headphones they'd be used 100% for games, paired with a gsx 1000. I've read good things for music listening but not much info for PC.

    • +1

These will probably be pretty good for gaming but I don't think you're getting good value for money for that purpose alone.

You're paying a big premium for critical listening accuracy with these when arguably that isn't a positive for gaming, you want to be able to hear footsteps/gunshots and directionality, but those particular sounds standing out is a lot more important than accurate representation which isn't what these headphones are optimised for

    is beyerdynamic the best?

    • Not sure what you meant with the best.
Best headphone company? Nope, it's not.

      • -2

        what is than?

        • None of them and all of them. Once you get into super high-end audio territory, it becomes too subjective to personal taste. Beyer, Sennheiser, Focal, Audeze, ZMF, MrSpeakers, Stax, Grado, they all make excellent cans with different sound signatures that appeal to different people and genres of music.

          Aiwa is da best

    • There are no "the best" headphones. Honestly, people may think the expensive headphones are better than the cheap ones (not true). It depends on personal taste and your wallet. If you have money to spend, you have more choices.

  • Price on these still pretty good, hopefully would get 200$ for my near new DT990 pros, worthwhile upgrade.
Manny's have a repaired pair still $700. Could price match I guess

  • Has anyone had their order shipped? Purchased 6 days ago and still nothing.
