  • These are pretty old and basic phones not even worth the $29 plan. However it is a great deal if you intended to buy an lcd tv/xbox or something else in their store in the first place and if you make full use of the cap. Otherwise you're actually paying for the bonus (probably even more).

Just note, I 'think' after gst you only actually get $270 to use.

  • and check their rates.. strathfield is notorious in slapping you with massive call rate.. like 55c / 30 secs .. ouch…

  • My thinking is a bit different. Say you sign up for the plan and then get a samsung E250 and a Samsung LCD TV. Sell them on Ebay or to your friends and you make $450 in profit. In this case, you get $450/$49= 10 months worth of free calls or pay $30/month (for the value of $300 worth of calls) over the 24 months. Frankly, if you talk a lot on the mobile, I think it's not a bad deal.

ps, given the reason above, I think you guys will see a lot of the free gifts for sale on Ebay pretty soon.

    • I see your point but for some people, they still need to get a phone…unless the Optus SIM cards have a built in mobile phone. I guess it would work for people who are coming to the end of their current plan and want to keep their mobile (or for people on prepaid wanting to get into a contract with their current phone). In any case, it's a good deal and worthy of a +ve vote.

  • c'mon what a crappy deal. if they were offering a decent phone it would be a good deal, but those phones aren't worth jack all. You'd be much better off value-wise to get a $49 cap with a Free N95 or a few dollars more a month and get an iPhone.

  • to elcheapo, Strathfield plans haven't been in existance for ages. Strathfield only deals with Optus plans, and Optus plans only. Any plan from a Strathfield store is just like one from an Optus store.

And yea, of course the phones are old an basic. You can't really expect a free XBOX360 from getting the n95 free on a $49 cap. But the phones are certainly not crappy. They are quite good phones like the 6300 and the 3500c.

These plans are not meant for everyone. At the end of the day it is simple math. A n95 is worth $599 outrigh. You pay $5 handset repayments per month with optus, so really when you go on a plan you get $480 worth of stuff for free. If a nok6300 is $200, which is way below the actual price of the phone (normally retailing for $229 retail), and you get an xbox with that $399 RRP. but for the sake of some people who i know are going to say you can get it for $349. That means that on this plan you get $549 worth of stuff for free.

Value wise, you are better off with the XBOX offer.

Or think of it like this. If you were looking at something like a n95 with a GPS, camera and mp3 inbuilt - for the same $49 a month, you can get a $167 navm8GPS - which has better maps than the n95, $99 sansa250 mp3 player - which has much better battery life than the n95, and a 8MP Pentax camera. AND a phone like the J750 - which is a much better texting phone than say the n95.

These deals are unbeatable. I'd challenge anyone to find anything similar. And if anyone is wondering where these packs and bonuses are advertised - they're not; Ask me about them and I arrange something like that for you.

    • There's a $5/month handset installment on N95 with optus $49 cap? Then the deals offered by 3 and vodafone are way better then. They are currently offering the phone (8GB version on 3) for free on a $49 cap.

      • Yeah, just wondering can you able to match with 3 deal…$49/month with no upfront on handset for N95 8GB? As I'm sick with m8 but I don't want to go with 3, just want to stay with Optus :)

    • Just a friendly advise. maybe you can put a Strathfield logo (in Gravatar) so people know who you represent for. cheers

  • Optus charges $5 a month on the n95 because it spent most of its budget subsidising the iPhone. If you look a 3 who can't even get the iPhone or voda who have it on a $169 plan compared to optus's $79 plan, optus certainly comes out on top
