  • They also fix the power issue so that's pretty good

There should be no problem for a $4k laptop

      • It's still the same build quality as the lower spec models - the extra money is not going towards better QA, its for higher specs. If there is an issue with the series, their would be an issue with this model.

      • +1

The Dell XPS line is notorious for QC issues

        • Yep. Horrible experience and would not buy another - atrocious QC and the laptops really are't that good!! I am far happier with my X1 which cost 1/4 of the price.

  • +3

You're better off not using the UNSW5 code and getting the 10% back with cashrewards.

    • Good point. Included it in the heading.

  • -1

Lol still double and a bit more overpriced

    • +3

Any recommendations for similar specs and cheaper?

      • Aftershock.. maybe screen a only difference but 10875 2070

  • +4

I dunno - this laptop looks great on paper but between the heat, charging issues when under load, and the QC issues, I would be hesitant to buy one.

    • +1

The price is OK but not that good compared to its US price. True, all reviewers have been raving about it, which was how I got hooked. But QC issues made me balk as well. I would recommend everyone go to whirlpool, have a read what those early adopters have been experiencing before pulling the plug.

  • My 9300 had some fan / heatsink dramas but their on-site support fixed pretty quick and besides the scheduling being a bit odd the issue was resolved and no more weird vibration noises.

  • +1

Guys. Please research this laptop. QC Risks asside, this price is very good relative to the laptop.

    • +1

Indeed - this machine is extremely well regarded by reviewers; widely considered one of the best thin-and-light workstations available. There are very few quality laptops with these specs that can be considered "portable."

Also, despite the 17" screen it's a very similar size to a standard 15" laptop.

      • +1

What bothers me about reviews in general is that it is rare that they use the device for a reasonable period. A lot of the issues reported by users never appear during brief tests.

    • I think it's disappointing that you spend $4.5k on a laptop and it doesn't even include win 10 pro. Just crazy IMHO.

  • I think the deal on the Dell Inspiron 7000 is quite good?

    $1,798.98 ($1,635 after the 10% cash back):

    10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10750H (12MB Cache, up to 5.0 GHz, 6 cores)
    NVIDIA® GeForce GTX® 1650 4GB GDDR6
    16GB (8GB onboard + 8GBx1 SODIMM), DDR4, 2933MHz
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

Apples to Oranges comparison. Build is, from what i understand, vastly different.

      • Yes, different category of product, but I thought I would mention that model too, because I think it is a decent deal too?

        • Might be worth a different thread.

The price of the xps17 is as low as it gets.

  • Does this compare to the equivalent Alienware? Curious how this would be for heavy apps as well as gaming?

    • Alienware are gaming laptops and will have better outright performance, but they are typically much larger and heavier.

The XPS 17 is a thin-and-light that just happens to be quite powerful.

  • I'm confused about the pricing

GST Price after 20% Sale: $4,144.54
Total Price you pay at Dell: $4558.99
    Cashback: 10% of $4144.54 = $414.45
    Total Cost: $4558.99-$414.45 = $4144.54

    Am I missing something here?

    • My bad. Left the UNSW5 code in my cart before looking at the price. Updated

      Its actually 4,103.091

Not sure where you got your GST Price at sale. Here's the math:

Price you pay to Dell: $4,558.99
      *90%
      Net outlay after cashback: $4103.091

      • +1

Be careful when calculating cashback though. Cashrewards calculates it on the price excl GST.

      • +1

        Sorry, my bad:
        Detailed math:
        RRP (inc. GST): $5,698.99
Price after discount (inc. GST): $4558.99 = Price to pay to Dell

Price after discount (Ex GST): $4558.99/1.10 = $4144.54
        Cashrewards Cashback: 10% of $4144.54 = $414.45

        Net Price after cashback = $4558.99-$414.45 = $4144.54

Not sure how you are getting $4103.09.

        • Ah… I was calculating it on the GST inclusive price. Thanks for pointing this out.

  • You can get a much better/cheaper one , when stock is back in Aus.
8 Core Ryzen-9 4900HS CPU which easily easily beasts intel crap 10875H, Ryzen one has 32GB 3200Mhz!!!! same RTX 2060 for 3K AUD only (the only differences are Ryzen one is 14" but nearly everyone is using an external monitor here and also Ryzen has 512GB NVMe)
I won't fall for shady discount when better cheaper product available , not a deal at all IMO to be honest!
If this was with i9 K series minimum 8 core cpu then was worth checkin with this price

    • better/ cheaper than….

Incomplete comparison in your sentence. What are you comparing it to? This is the cheapest this PARTICULAR product has ever been and hence it is a bargain. Logic

      • -2

I provided the exact detail spec mate , if you wanna negative just because you don't like it , I can't comment on that.

If a product is cheapest it has ever been , it doesn't mean it's bargain……..loooooooooool….. Logic says : bargain is when you can buy better product and cheaper.

No sane mind will go for this deal when below one back in stock IMO unless you are a die hard Intel fan and don't wanna use AMD with better performance and lower power usage. This will be back in stock by the end of month i as I checked with them last last week of Aug.

        https://www.mwave.com.au/product/asus-rog-zephyrus-g14-14-ga…

        • No sane mind will rock up to a work meeting with a gaming laptop.

          Again - its relative.

        • +3

Come on man, these 2 laptops aren't even vaguely in the same category. The G14 is a really sweet machine, but it's a compact gaming laptop. The XPS is a 17" business thin-and-light.

They both have high-end CPU and GPU (yes, the Ryzen is impressive) but they're clearly designed for rather different use cases. This is best demonstrated by the display specs.

          G14: 14" 1920x1080p resolution, 330 nits peak brightness, 120Hz with Freesync.
          XPS 17: 17" 3840x1200 resolution, 500 nits peak brightness, 60Hz.

Clearly, the G14 is aimed at gaming performance, and the XPS 17 is aimed at high-end productivity.

If you want further proof - the G14 doesn't have a webcam; absolutely essential in the current business environment.

          • @klaw81: Your response is much more logical and fairer mate to the original poster to be honest!

i agree with some of your points specially webcam but if you buy a work productivity laptop , will you choose 17" big one to carry with you to your meetings (covide scenario aside)?. If you buying a desktop replacement one, that's a different story and this machine still doesn't worth it at all.

Anyway let's have this discussion closed otherwise will go long considering none of us buying this piece :)

            • +1

@SamyKn: lol.. And this is why I don't share bargains here. People like you come along and try and sell Oranges when someone is buying Apples.

If you are looking for an XPS 17, then this is a bargain. XPS enthusiasts know it so.

If you want to compare something else then you have every right to do so, but it is illogical to suggest that the sale isn't a bargain at this price.

If the question being asked was 'Is this the best value for money laptop'? Then I'd say NO it isn't, its expensive. But the question is: is this a bargain? To which the answer is yes.

              Peace out.

            • @SamyKn: I think you missed the part that the XPS 17 is a touch over 2kg, and about the same physical size as a standard 15" laptop. It's a very portable, compact and lightweight machine only slightly larger than the current 16" MacBook Pro.

A desktop replacement laptop would be a totally different matter - and for that application I wouldn't recommend either the XPS 17 or the G14.

  • Can anyone confirm if the cashback (10%) is applicable to the devices which have already been reduced with 20% off cyber sale?

I am keen to get https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/xps-13-laptop/s….

After UNSW5 coupon code the price is down to $2,811.05

    • I think it is applicable - but just email cashrewards.

  • I do like the XPS range, but its a pretty big price premium over the recent G7 series. As far as i can tell you are paying $1500 more to upgrade from a Full HD screen to UHD, but getting a fairly substantial downgrade in GPU. You'd have to really want a portable UHD screen to buy this over a G7 plus external UHD screen.

    • XPS screens have more color accuracy and brightness than a typical gaming laptop, and the chasis is built to be thinner and lighter. It just looks more premium.

      • Don't disagree…. just $1500 is a pretty big price gap for a modest improvement. Still, obviously people are still buying…
