Ozito Cordless Grass Trimmer and Shear Kit $59.25 @ Bunnings

180

Went to Bunnings to get the the Brushless Jet Blower but decided against it as you required 2 batteries..cost didn't warrant it…!
Then saw this on offer for a complete cordless grass trimmer and shear kit with 1.5ah battery with charger.Seemed pretty cost effective considering battery and charger could be about $45-50,so worked out to be about $10 for trimmer and shear skin …Seemed pretty good value considering they are selling Trimmer and Shear alone for $89.98 !

I ain’t sure what this is? Could it be used for hedges? No wait yes it can for teeny tiny hedges.

    • Sure can…but only small ones.

    • I think it is for topiary (plant sculpture) or maybe pruning potted bushes?

I have one of these and it's very weak. It takes ages for it to actually cut through anything much bigger than a leaf stem. I paid $39 and it's money down the drain as far as I'm concerned. It's so hopeless on hedges (yes even small ones) that I don't use it and have gone back to using the Ozito PXC 18V Hedge Trimmer which is so much better. Well worth the extra cost in my opinion.

If you use it to trim the hedges around your deck it will make your deck look bigger!

  • its like a toy hedge cutter

  • Can the 1.5ah batt be used for any of the Ozito battery-op lawnmowers?

    • They are standard for all Ozito 18V products..but battery is on the small size.
Good fit for this type of trimmer though, as you wouldn't do big hedges with it.

Yeah that's the point of the powerxchange system but it's nowhere near high enough capacity to last long

..newsflash: it's still like cutting grass with scissors

    • The grass-trimmer attachment is for edges. (Of very small lawns)

      • Actually I just realised there's one potential use: edging on a curve with a radius thats too tight for an edger.

        Not sure it's worthwhile though

  • I think this is a widespread sale, i've seen it in a few stores recently. Don't really get the use case for it since its so small though.

  • Landfiilllllll

  • I use it for topiary and for arrant hedge growth sprouts (the Donald trump ones that must stick their heads above the rest). Pretty good for those functions only.

I have one, not very powerfull, it stuck on thick branches, and it does not cut grass very well, too thin.

Where do you see reviews on the website? Or rather, why can't I see reviews?

Bunnings' website is weird. Sometimes people link to products that are clearly there for them, but I can't find them.
      Is it a location thing?

      • I'm using Chrome on my phone, you just need to scroll down to see the reviews.

        • Aha. It's their on Chrome mobile, but not Firefox mobile or Chrome Desktop. How weird…

Not very encouraging reviews on Bunnings website.

  • I use this mainly for edging the lawn, where the other side of the border are stones. Tried using an proper edger once and it sent a stone flying to the window.

This tool gives greater control over what you're cutting. And I suggest use it with at least a 4 Ah battery for more power.

    • capacity =/= power

  • lol 0/3 people recommend this.

  • I got one that looks the same from Aldi a few years ago, except mine has an inbuilt rechargeable battery. Worked great on fresh growth on my hedge, as long as you keep your expectations in check and don't try to use it on woody overgrown branches. I like a nice fresh bush, so this thing got plenty of use. Much easier than bringing out the beast if you trim regularly and have low hedges.

I got one set for $49 a few months back and it got me into the whole Ozito cordless range. Certainly the shears are a bit weak for the woody growth but fine for the fresh growth. It certainly put me in the good books with my GF's hedge.

To be honest, your GF shouldn't let it get from a small bush to a hedge before trimming…

  • Didn't they clear these a while back:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538862
There should be very little stock left.

  • Picked one up at Dural. 5 left.
I like the size but it's a bit slow and weak.
Just did my bushes. It's good for minor maintaining or cleaning up after using a bigger trimmer, or for misc corners/shapes.
