                @Homr: yes this will work

nah, don't feel robbed, it's still great value with 1tb NVMe and MX250, hard to find something like that in this price group, especially this build quality. and despite newer process there's not much advancement between 10th gen U and 10th gen G, so it's a very very decent machine.

I am still rocking a system based on i3-7130U for my work on the go and I don't feel restricted in any way. These days a 4C/8T i5 or i7 is plenty for even demanding users.

                • @shabaka: Thanks. I spent the whole weekend reading up reviews for the Vostro and not one review mentions that the 10510u is a rebadged i5. It's only when I googled the processor itself that I came across it. Still feel a bit annoyed on how I'm not getting a true i7 :(

Anyway, I'll be using this laptop for work from home so I'll be plugging it in to dual monitors setup. Will the below cable be able to output 1440p @ 144hz via USB-C to DP?

                  https://www.amazon.com.au/CABLEDECONN-DisplayPort-7680x4320-…

If you know a cheaper alternative please share :)

I'm also planning to upgrade the wifi card to the new Intel WIFI6 AX

                  Thanks for your help.

220 nits on the i5 was a deal breaker for me. Otherwise it was a great deal. I think the screen is important as its your interface with the machine.

  • Just wondering. Comparing the Dell G7 17 vs The Lenovo Legion 5Pi - Intel Core i7-10750H 16GB RAM 512GB SSD RTX 2060 Black (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Legion-5Pi-Intel-Core-i7-…)

Which is a better buy if they’re both at the same price of $2k ?

    • G7. better GPU. bigger screen

    • Most say the 4800H is definitely better than the 10750, but the 10750 is no slouch, particular when paired with the 2070 high end GPU which is a full performance version, and with 17" IPS screen, all for only $300 more. I have the G7 and very happy with it

      • I don't think the G7 has an IPS screen, does it? Also, I looked up 4800H vs. 10750H benchmarks, and they are almost exactly the same across the board.

  • can this handle the ms flight simulator?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8940-Tower-Desktop-10th…

  • Definitely tempted by the G7. I really like the design of it but I've heard bad things about the thermals. Not that interested in gaming and would mostly be supplemental to a video editing desktop I'm building around Nov/Dec for general use but powerful enough to do editing work on the go when I have to (which certainly happens albeit not so much at the moment of course).

My other option is the Aftershock Apex 17R Lite which is a bit more powerful but they have no plans to upgrade the battery any time soon and I hate that keyboard font. Worth jumping on this sale or should I wait for something better to come along, do you think?

    • Better buy a 4800H for your usage case, there is the Lenovo legion 5 4800H deal right now for $1690.

      • Mm, the problem is that's only available in 15" and I find I really prefer a 17" display. There's just not a great many options out there.

  • What capacity battery does the Dell Inspiron 15 5505 have? Anyone have this already? How long does it last doing basic office work with power saving settings?

  • Does anyone know when this sale finishes? I'm waiting on a particular review of a competing product and don't want to miss this if I decide to go with it.

    • 19th for the coupon, unsure about the other one.

      • Oh, good point. I forgot about the already discounted price. Hopefully that doesn't change before the weekend as I have some serious thinking to do.

        • please share which one you buy.

          • @Modesty: I'm tossing up. I could get more power for the same money with the Apex 17R Lite but until Adobe supports NVDEC, having the ability to work quickly with h264 files is a compelling reason to go with an Intel laptop over AMD. Also, as I said, the build quality on this seems better which is good for regular usage on the go but if I have to kneecap the CPU by disabling turbo, it doesn't make sense to go with it for video editing and rendering. I'm trying to figure out if undervolting and/or the new BIOS fixes that issue.

I was hoping the high CPU temp was due to Dell overclocking the 2070 too far and that the 1660Ti would give a bit more thermal headroom but that may not be the case.

            • @WD Stevens: I am also thinking to buy a laptop for max $2000, and g7 looks good, but it has mix review and issues reported by some users like thermal issues . Confused which one to get , around that price point.

              • @Modesty: If you let me know your use case, I could possibly recommend something. It does seem like this is not the laptop to get unless you're very willing to put the work in to get things under control. And even then there are probably better options.

                • @WD Stevens: I don't play games that much, but I prefer something powerful minimum 15" with good graphics card. Prefer touch screen and 4k if I can get in that price range. Good selection of ports like2/3 Usb 3 , usb c and card reader. Thanks.

  • I just got off a chat with Dell asking about price matching and they sent a quote over for $700 more than what I could get on eBay from their own official store. I find it strange they wouldn't at least price match their own price for cutting out the middle man and presumably eBay's commission.

    • Which model? The G7? hahaha

  • Inspiron 15 4500u and 4700u both OOS.

Bought 1 for my mother in law a couple of days ago and checked this morning for a work mate, stock was there on the 4500u. Went to show him now and sold out.

    • Back in stock.

  • G7 has some mixed reviews, don't know if there is any other better option for $2000.

  • Inspiron 5505 is back in stock

  • Hi OzB peeps.

Can anybody here with a Dell please weigh in. I received our Inspiron 15 and the wifi is horendously slow.

I'm yet to try a wired connection via an adapter but early searches are pointing towards Dell's bundled Smartbyte.

I've uninstalled and wiped all files associated with it to no avail. The speedtest struggles to even load it's that bad. Something is definitely throttling it but I'm unable to track it down.

    Please help.

    • I've just tried a wired connection and the speeds are full speed. I've narrowed it down to the Wifi adapter with mixed solutions. One involves adjusting router settings but that would seem ludicrous to have to alter every time you accessed a new wifi network!

Very annoyed as we bought 2 of these, 1 for my mother in law and another recommended to a work colleague. Both of their uses predominantly over wifi.
