Mod remove if incorrect but just want to bring attention back to this post since Netflix jacked their AU prices today. It's been almost a year since it was originally posted.

              • @Ice009: Cheers for the update! I never had to go through the number as it was already on the AU account that I transferred over, I was just going on what other people were saying that you couldn't add an AU number afterwards for Arg or Turkey. Good to know though it can still be done at least with Arg, will save a few people some hassle changing back to AU Netflix to have a verified number.

  • All my credit card didnt accept anyone tried purchasing netflix Turkey gift card and did it work?
I'm currently looking at G2A slightly expensive but no choice

Edit: Nvm just saw someone doing it seems to be working

    • G2A gift card worked with turkey vpn on to buy and to redeem. Good luck everyone

      • I received “An error occurred during gift redemption - please try again later” using the gift card from G2A.
        Did anyone experience this?
I called helpdesk, they pointed me to this site: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/59987?g=8687C358D125E515187…

        Solution being:
        1. Clear cookies - I tried this, still failed.
        2. wait for 24 hours - helpdesk said, probably the card is not activated. Can anybody confirm this?

I used existing account, with no credit card attached to it.

  • Can't seem to get around the Turkish mobile number verification. They must've become wise to it.

I selected a plan and cc got accepted, then used a virtual turkish number to receive the sms verification code which worked! Got excited only to get kicked back to the payment screen again where this time it wouldn't accept my payment method.

FYI my standard plan ARG price has gone up from ~$5.88 to $9.49. Not sure why or how they calced +61% increase.

    • Can't seem to get around the Turkish mobile number verification. They must've become wise to it.

I thought we could just enter our Australian phone number? Do you have to enter a country code for the phone number?

I selected a plan and cc got accepted, then used a virtual turkish number to receive the sms verification code which worked!

So you need to do SMS verification as the last step and enter the number from your phone to complete the signup process? How do you go about getting a virtual Turkish number to get the SMS verification?

FYI my standard plan ARG price has gone up from ~$5.88 to $9.49. Not sure why or how they calced +61% increase.

Yeah, mine went up to pretty much the same amount. I was happy with the previous pre-tax Argentina pricing, but this is too much of an increase for the standard plan IMO.

      • Nah with Turkey it by default has +90 area code which you can't change (even though my existing account already has a verified Aussie number). I presume because they know it's the cheapest option worldwide so many are trying this method. I used a site called autofications which lets you do one free verification, eventually worked but not sure why I got kicked back to payment screen. I'll try again over the next couple days and let you know if any luck.

        • Alright, thanks. Look forward to hearing back from you.

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to post my findings - I used an account with a lapsed subscription.

Tried doing the steps in the browser from my laptop, but found that my VPN (Windscribe) wouldn't progress past the plans screen (the continue button just didn't work despite multiple attempts).

Instead, I just opened the Netflix app on my phone, progressed to see the plans page (showing AUD prices), then activated Windscribe on my phone and went back into the app.. I exited registration and clicked 'Get Started' again at which point the plans showed in Turkish Lira and it went straight through.. had the option of adding my phone number but just skipped past and it's activated.

Thanks for all the help - great result!

    • Can u let me know if Windscribe has free trial on mobile phone?

      • +1

I already had an account from one of those 50GB per month lifetime deals that comes up occasionally but it sounds like the trial makes you create a username so can't see why not

    • +1

      So you had CC already?

Was it an iOS or Android?

      • +1

Yes had an ING card registered already from before, which I think is one of the benefits of using the lapsed account method. Plus it has no international fees - just got billed $7.43 for the Premium plan :)

I use Android personally.. can't see why it wouldn't work with iOS though

    • Hi, I actually have a subscription to Windscribe, but didn't think about trying it through my mobile phone. So just use the Netflix app on my mobile with Windscribe activated to Turkey and go through the payment like that?

How many days had your subscription lapsed for? Also, when you say lapsed, did you cancel it before the billing period ended? I still haven't cancelled mine as it goes through until the end of the month. I was going to cancel it around the 25th.

Did you leave all your credit card details and payment info in the Netflix account? So you also didn't even have to add a phone number for verification? Did you already have a phone number listed/linked to your Netflix account?

Oh, and what plan did you choose? I am on the standard plan, but am going to go for the Premium plan as that is still cheaper than what I am paying now. May as well just stay locked into that if I can get it to work.

      • +2

Hi, I'll just answer your questions in order:

        The steps I did:
        - Open Netflix app and got told that my subscription had expired, I went to the plans page
        - Minimise Netflix then open Windscribe and connect to Istanbul
        - Maximise Netflix and see the plans page still listed in AUD
        - I couldn't make the page refresh so I just exited the registration and went back to the 'get started' page
        - Following the flow again then displayed the plans in Turkish Lira
        - After that there were several account setup screens but I wasn't asked for payment details or a Turkish phone number so should be straightforward

I cancelled my plan about 3 weeks ago, but it only lapsed on Sunday. I did this last night so that was 48h but I can't see why it couldn't have done it on Monday as per other people's comments

Yes no change to payment details. We just cancelled the subscription. During setup I got asked to enter a number to verify, but it was optional. I then got an email (after completing setup) asking to validate my number but it was defaulted to my existing Australian one so not an issue (I assume I already had it on the account).

I went with the Premium plan as I've got a 4k TV and it was only $1.50 more or so than the regular one

  • I've been trying to get it to work for a few days without any luck. Today I just tried again and initially it didn't work either, but based on some previous comments, when I got to the payment screen, instead of just putting in the CVC, I re-pasted in my credit card number and that did the trick.

This is with Argentina. Unfortunately, despite being Bankwest, for the Premium plan I got charged $13.25. Just cancelled again and next month I'll try Turkey and Brazil…

    • So you clear everything and enter the card details once again?

      • CVC was empty, so just the CC number and CVC, didn't touch name or expiry.

    • +1

Just an update. After seeing the comment above mine, I cancelled my Argentina account and attempted the Turkey one again to no avail. Stuck at SMS verification, tried a few paid virtual numbers without success.

So for now I ended up with going with Brazil. $11.59 for the premium account.

      • Did you have your AU mobile number on your account?

        • I did, yes.

      • +1

Couldn't get past the mobile number for turkey
I found Brazil is reasonable for $8.20/m for standard.
Mobile was on account already but asked if want to update just said yes all good.

  • +2

Can't get it to working using credit card, but bought some Turkish Netflix gift cards, and worked great. A little bit more expensive then paying by card directly, but works out to be $10 is not bad.

    • Same. About $7.50 or something a month. Still cheaper than the $15 they want now.

    • Thank you so much, I wasted so much time trying to get it to work this route worked so easily

  • Sorry if this has been asked before, but in signing up with Turkey account, won't your shows and recommendations be based on Turkey?

Will you also lose all your progress and watchlist?

    • +3

Shows and recommendations will be based on Australia. Progress and watch list will carry over.

  • I used PIA and it seems to give you the right IP address for Turkey and Brazil. But I couldn't get my existing account to work with Turkey or Brazil. Netflix kept declining my credit cards (28 Degrees and ANZ). I got it to work once with Turkey and it asked for a Turkish phone number but I couldn't find a free website that would receive Turkish SMSes for the verification (I did find a Brazilian one, but couldn't get that far in the process with Brazil!). Also, I couldn't find an option to pay with gift cards using an existing account using either country.

But what worked for me was to clear browsing history and cookies on Chrome and using PIA connect to the Turkey server and create a new Netflix account (using the [emailaddress][email protected] formula). Then I went through most of the sign up process and left it. A few hours later I got an automated support email from Netflix to finalise signing up, and when I clicked through that link I got the option for credit/debit card or gift cards. I tried credit/debit cards again but had no luck, so went to G2A (https://www.g2a.com/netflix-gift-card-100-tl-turkey-i1000000…) and bought the 100TRY (Turkish Lira) gift card for $AUD22.39 using 28 Degrees via Paypal. Entered that into the new Netflix account and it worked!

So ends up being $6.72 per month for the standard package using this method, rather than $15.99. Still a 58 per cent saving!

    • Lot of effort mate, but good it works
Was much easier doing Brazil incognito mode but mostly because it remembers and confirms your original number, for the sake of 8.20/ month it's still half price and don't have to stuff around with overseas numbers.

      • Is $8.20 through Brazil for the standard account?

        • Yes, so works out to be about half price.

          • +1

            @G-rig: That's a pretty good price, thanks.

    • create a new Netflix account (using the [emailaddress][email protected] formula)

What is this email address formula for creating a new account? I'm not following what you mean by it.

      • If your current email is [email protected], create a new one, e.g. [email protected] or [email protected]

        • Ahh right, thanks. I assume you just go abc1, adding the "+" doesn't matter, does it? It's only to differentiate the email address for yourself?

Which method are you going to try when you try to re-sign via Turkey? It looks like there is now a few different options we can try as a bunch of people have given us some great detailed info on the methods they used. I'm not sure which one to try first.

    • I received “An error occurred during gift redemption - please try again later” using the gift card from G2A.
      Did anyone experience this?
I called helpdesk, they pointed me to this site: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/59987?g=8687C358D125E515187…

I used existing account, with no credit card attached to it.
I doubt it is related to the existing account. even after doing netflix.com/clearcookies (which logged me out of my account), then trying the code in netflix.com/redeem (i.e. common page, not account specific) the code also failed.

Anyone on the Argentine Netlfix? I've been on it for a while now but my last transaction on my credit card showed me an amount of ARS 736.36 (AUD 13.31) deducted. I thought the prices were increased but turns out the price of the top package still remains at ARS 449. Has anybody had a similar experience in their last billing cycle? Not sure what's going on here.

    • What card/bank ?

    • +2

Told you. That’s the additional tax Arg gov announced.

    • Time to head to Turkey!

    • I am the same with you. 2 acc, 2 visa card. Chagre ARS 736.36, but in the account it's still 449 ARS

  • Anybody signed up Brazil Netflix?

I tried to sigh up Argentine Netlfix a lot times last month but all failed when added credit card information. (28 Degree)

So I tried Brazil today, done. From Netflix Brazil (https://help.netflix.com/en/node/24926/br) price is R$45.90 premium, but my email is 'Premium, BRL91.80, first two month BRL45.90', make me confused.

    Is anybody same situation? Thanks.

    • Just checked email again, first 2 months is half price, then it's R$45.90/month, next billing date is December 17, 2020 (in two months).

    • Either my calculations are wrong or that normal price is very expensive?

    • BRL32.90/month for standard in Brazil.
I don't consider that very expensive, $3 more than turkey. Can't get the first two months free/cheaper if you are an existing member/existing log in

  • Anyone had trouble with the Turkish Netflix gift card codes not working?
Keeps popping up with the error 'Sorry, but we are unable to process your request'.

    • edit:
Tried the gift card again 12 hours later and appears to be working great.

  • Managed to get Netflix sub going via Turkey using the gift card option mentioned here.

Did the combination of getting the gift card, proceeding through the majority of the join process, then turning on the VPN and refreshing the page to get Turkey pricing and completing the process which meant no need to verify a Turkey mobile number.

Now that my sub is going through Turkey, can I add a credit card when logged into Aus Netflix and it will get charged once the gift card credit runs out at the Turkey Netflix rate?

    • Chat with support team to add a credit card to your account.

      • do i need to turn on the turkey vpn when chatting with them for this request?

        • i didn't have to.

  • For those of us having issues with payment, I ended up going through Eneba and purchasing Turkey Netflix Gift Cards for a small premium.

A 75 Turkish Lira Gift Card (2.5 months worth) came out to approx AU$6.80/mth going through PayPal. Happy to pay a slight premium than fluffing about with credit/debit cards.

Have applied Gift Card and logged into AU Netflix.

    Happy Days!

I just re-subscribed to Netflix after I let my account expire.

    • Turned on VPN (Windscribe) on my phone (Pixel 5)
    • Went through the setup process through the Netflix app
    • Tried to put in an AU CBA card, but it wouldn't let me
    • Bought a Turkish gift card off G2A, redeemed fine
    • Revalidated my AU phone number OK
    • Turned off VPN, can see my existing playlists, users etc
    • Can see my existing payment method (PayPal) is still attached to my account

So hopefully, my PayPal will be charged moving forward. :)

    • Strange that you had to re-enter payment.. I did the exact same thing and it was fine.. the only difference was that I had a card associated to my account and not Paypal

      • Yeah I think it was asking for payment details as it appears that Turkish Netflix does not have PayPal as an option.

  • +1

Thanks my ARG last months payment just got charged $10 from $6 previously. Ive cancelled and will try again for turkey.

    • Yeah I wonder if there’s a better chance of cards being accepted going from Argentina > Turkey, than Aus > Turkey.
I attempted Turkey on ANZ, ING, Commonwealth bank, and Nab and also with the saved card on the account with no success. I then settled for Argentina and it worked first go.

If the Argentina > Turkey doesn’t work, I might try Germany > Turkey as someone mentioned earlier they signed up for a German Netflix account and was able to transfer easily.

  • Annoying. Switched my card to Revolut before AU account expired. Tried to rejoin under Turkish VPN tonight. But even though card was saved, payment still failed when I selected the plan :(

tried to get chat to remove my card so I could use gift card but after a painful 20 mins they cut me off and I didn’t have the patience to try again!

  • Anyone able to get this working? Even with a Turkish phone number I was rejected - (Turkish) customer service says it's because the number is not the same as the one associated with my card

    • Nope - couldn't even get a Brazil one to work either - maybe they've rumbled us!

      • Try the gift card method people have mentioned above! I just tried it and it worked :D

        • Hmm - tried that with a disposable virtual card from Revolut and it went through and then a few seconds later said reverted and declined.

        • Managed to get it sorted - I was trying to buy the g2a card whilst on VPN - switched it off and bought in AUD and was fine (and ironically cheaper!)

So I'm up and running now - but try as I may I can't add a credit card for when gift card expires.

Chat are saying they can't accept that card right now - but I just tried 3 different cards and none work :(

    • That sounds like a lie to be honest. I don't know how they'd know what phone number is associated with a Credit Card. They're not your issuing bank so they should have no clue…

  • I cannot even login to netflix (it said wrong password, but 100% sure it was correct) with Windscribe VPN (I used the free version). does anyone have the same issue?

    • Reset password?

      • when I disabled the VPN, it was working fine. only when I was using VPN, it did not allow to me login.

        • Sounds weird. Maybe try again later.

    • Log in before starting the VPN and then refresh

    • if you're on mobile, try it at desktop.
got the same issue yesterday on my mobile, not sure why

  • +1

If your MasterCard does not work as a payment method (like; CBA) while you are logged in with the VPN from Turkey/Australia. Then,

    Follow these steps;

    1. Turn off the VPN and refresh the add card details page. Now, the page will be loaded for Australian location.
    2. Then, add your card details, which will be accepted by Netflix.
    3. Go back to the payment selection page.
    4. Turn on the VPN for Turkey/Australia and refresh the page.
    5. The you can just click through and select the card as a payment method.

I have CBA card which was not working previously then after these steps; I am not on $7.60 ultra plan from Turkey.

    Thanks.

    • +1

Great advice. Wondering if anyone else has tried this and it worked?

    • Great to know, thanks. I'll definitely add this to the list of methods to try.

I am wondering, do you guys think I should remove my credit card details and phone number before my account cancellation goes through (currently on Argentina sub with Aus CC and Ph number), or should I leave them on file? What do you guys think would give the best chance? I am going to try and move from the standard Argentina plan to the Ultra Turkish plan.

@Infoholic, did you mean that you are now on the Premium/Ultra plan from Turkey?

Also, someone mentioned that they had their payment setup through Paypal? I didn't think you could use Paypal.

Edit : I just had a thought. If you're already on a different country (Australia, Argentina etc.), should you try starting off the process with the VPN turned on to that country? For example, since I am signed up through Argentina, should I try with the VPN set to Argentina.

I also assume it's best to use an incognito window? Should you also be logged into your current account before turning on the VPN?

I also just cancelled my membership in case I forget to at the end of the month. Just not sure whether to leave the credit card details and AUS phone number listed in the account?

      • Yes, I am on Ultra from Turkey now.

Leave the phone number but remove the credit card.

Then follow my steps after the subscription expires.

        • Thanks for the reply. I also should have asked, were you signed up on Australian Netflix before switching over to Turkey? I'm on Argentina, so not sure if that would make a difference to your method. I might just leave the CC info for now and if payment doesn't work, I'll get them to remove the credit card info. You can't remove the CC info yourself, can you? I assume it has to be done via chat/support? I will do the refresh the page thing, though.

        • Not sure why, but everytime I put in my CBA mastercard, even without VPN it won't accept it.

    • Then, add your card details, which will be accepted by Netflix.

I can't add card details to an account which doesn't have a plan already. What's the URL of the page where you added card details? I went to http://netflix.com/account but there are no fields to enter details, just an (almost) blank page.

  • Thanks OP. Worked with G2A gift card I bought (Turkish account). Payments with ANZ and CBA cards did not work for some reason. All up ~$40 for about a year of Netflix.

    • How did you get to 1 year with that? Are you on Basic?
I expect to get 7 months from 2 gift cards on the Standard plan.

      • Yeah, basic plan for me mate.

  • I wonder if there’s a better chance of cards being accepted going from Argentina > Turkey, than Aus > Turkey.
I attempted Turkey on ANZ, ING, Commonwealth bank, and Nab and also with the saved card on the account with no success. I then settled for Argentina and it worked first go.

Very interesting/good take you've got there. Definitely something to consider/try IMO.

I am going to attempt to move from Argentina standard to Turkish premium plan when my cancellation goes through at the end of the month. I also wonder if I should just try and move from the standard plan to the standard plan, and then if it goes through, later on upgrade to the premium plan. I wonder if jumping straight to the Turkish premium plan when you were on a lower plan previously makes any difference?

What do you think about the saved credit card and number thing? I am trying to decide whether or not to delete the phone number and cc details from my account, and if would make any difference before trying to re-sign?

      • My subscription is up on the 15th next month. I’d be interested how anyone’s experience going from Argentina to Turkey Netflix. I’ve got an active family and one or two moaned at the idea of being without it for 12 hours as you wait for the calendar to switch over in the early hours of the night lol 😅.

From what I’ve seen in the comments on this post, I’d suggest trying to keep to your card on the account so you don’t have to add it again.
Not sure how to go when it comes going from standard to premium.

        • +2

My Argentina subscription just lapsed yesterday and this is what I did to make it work.

I left my Bankwest Platinum card and AUS phone number on the account and with VPN on for the whole process logged into sign up for Turkey. Got through to the payment processing page and it spat up an error that said there was an issue processing the payment on the Bankwest card.

At this point I tried following infoholic's post above about refreshing with VPN on/off for various pages but that didn't work, it still kept throwing an error trying to charge my Bankwest Card even though I'd notified them I'd be 'in Turkey' for the requisite dates.

I ended up just updating the card details (with VPN still on) to my Macquarie Everyday Debit Mastercard and it processed straight away. Came to the add a Turkish number for recovery screen but I just clicked continue and moved through without issue from there. 41.99 TL came out at $6.99 AUD which is the exact Mastercard rate as Macquarie doesn't have foreign transaction fees.

From what I've seen it seems that Visa/MC debit cards seem to be working but I haven't heard from anyone with a Bankwest CC on file that has gotten the swap to work for Turkey.

I moved from Argentina to Turkey. My ING card was successfully charged for the Ultra plan, and I'm happy I moved.

    Here is what I did.

1- Cancel your subscription few days in advance, you'll still have access.
2- On the last day go to account/settings and you should "Sign out of all devices" (not sure how crucial this step was).
3- Your account will lapse, leave it 24-48hrs meanwhile entertain yourself with FREE SBS on Demand or ABC iView.
4- Turn on your Turkish VPN go to https://www.iplocation.net/ under IP Location "details" and make sure all results are showing Turkish cities.
5- Open an incognito browser, login and follow the steps.

My AU mobile and my ING card were on file. I followed the steps above and it worked.

    • Good to hear!

Sounds like going Australia to Argentina to Turkey works.

Bankwest card was charged the new expensive Argentina rate this week.
So looks like there's no cards immune to the new tax.

Now to try and shift to Turkey

  • I can't get around the txt message verification, even by using an old account to be reactivated. Any idea of working virtual numbers where we can receive text messages? Couldn't find anything working for Argentina.

    Anyone get any luck..

I keep getting "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use."

    • I am sure I almost got my card blocked getting this message too but got there in the end :D

    • Hi mate, I am getting the exact same message "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use." I tried both my credit card and debit card. Neither gets me anything except that message. So did you end up just going with a gift card? Where did you buy the gift cards from?

  • +1

I was on a free 1 month trial from US that has expired. I didn't manage to get the existing account to accept any payment method for Turkey or Brazil (not even for Australia).

In the end I managed to set up a new account in Turkey using the G2A giftcard linked above. It is on special for $19.59 right now. Started on Basic with free upgrade to Standard for the first month.

If I add a second gift card and pay for Standard in future I'll get 7 months for $39.18. $5.60/month.

Happy days. Until Netflix Turkey doubles their prices and the gift cards don't last as long ;-)

    • When you used the giftcard.. did you need to go through the phone verification?

      • No phone verification required, as far as I can tell.

But in a later step it had an optional 'add phone number for account recovery', that one had a country drop down list and allowed me to enter my AU number, which I did.

I ran into a lot of issues when I wanted to add the second gift voucher (to take me to 7 months). Got 'invalid code' over and over again. Until I turned off the VPN, then it worked immediately. Go figure. But it appears I can now add more credit via Turkish gift vouchers without being on Turkey VPN.

Just did the same, I finally got it to work doing it your way! Thanks

I tried adding an ANZ debit card to the account but it wont let me. Might have to go the gift voucher route to extend it.

I'm a bit hesitant on adding too much giftcards. I dont want to have too much credit in there and netflix decide to close my account down for violating their ToS or something.

@buckethat: Glad it worked for you.

I'm not too worried about them closing accounts, but I fully expect a massive price hike some time in the near future, bringing Turkey in line with other countries.

That, plus the fact that the Turkish Lira will likely keep falling, means I won't go past the 200TL I loaded for now.
