    • Isnt it better to catch a 100$ 4tb external hd deal and shuck the drive?

      • I would.. but I haven't seen one of those for a while!

        • +4

but those are not NAS type of HDD

      • +5

Those are ST4000DM004 Barracuda SMR 4TB hard drives. They are crap in comparison. At least the Ironwolf 4TB is not SMR, right.

    • +1

      8tb and shuck @ $200 better deal

      • +1

        where is that deal?

      • +2

If you're happy with an SMR hard drive. That's what you get out of those Seagate external enclosures unless it's a 10TB or larger drive.

Awesome, I have been patiently waiting for one of these 4TB NAS drives to go on sale. They've been sitting at $159 for the past few months at least. Great deal.

    • ah if only 20% off…

on my NAS, my two HDD has this "RAW Read Error Rate" during smart test since years ago but showing as "healthy"…. even synology staff suggested to change them but i keep holding on…. waiting for $99 the 4TB seagate

Good price but I think I might wait for the DS1520+ to get a little cheaper (currently $1151.10) Old model DS918+ is pretty good price at $759.05

  • +1

I need a nas and I'm looking out for a 920+ deal. A little hard to swallow knowing the 918+ could be had for ~$600 earlier this year. Hoping prices go down but I doubt that'll happen within the next month or 2 so I'll probably just bite the bullet and pick this up

    • You can go 918+ as not much on hardware difference, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Bay-Synology-DS918-4GB-DiskSta… which will be $719.10 for the same coupon code

      • That code doesn't work on 918+ :(
I like the fact the 918 doesn't have a soldered memory stick. Then my brain is like go the with the new version, its newer. Lol

        • 920+ is DDR4, 918+ is DDR3.

You can still put a 16GB DIMM into the 920+ for 20GB total.

          • +1

@Monsta-AU: I forgot ddr4 vs ddr3. Hmmm I might hang out until black Friday, hoping ebay plus drops a 20% that actually can be used

  • Good price, pair it with an nvme drive on special and you have a decent setup

  • +1

Is this a newer version of DS918? What's the difference?

  • I'm still rocking a ds414….

    I want docker though

  • Buy rolls royce nas and only 4tb drives? No sir, thank ya sir.
