Shows $12 for me after you select a location

      • +1

Which location? Must only be some, selected several locations and still get $24.

          • @gibbo_au: Fun. If you pick a location that is $24, it will never update to $12 if you then choose a store that is supposed to be $12. Looks like it excludes QLD/WA anyway.

@[Deactivated]: Just checked and it currently comes up at $12 for both QLD and WA.

@robinCTS: Thanks, does for me too now, must have taken a day to work through all their stores for some reason.

Seems to have FM which is useful, I don't ever use AM.

To check whether you have DAB+ digital radio coverage in your area
    Only Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane,
Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Darwin, Canberra and Mandurah.
    Happy camping!

    • That explains why there is so much stock in my local!

      • +1

Yes - stock sometimes is sent to areas beyond the DAB+ reception. Still it has FM!

    • Such a shame, and that linked site suggests that the commercial radio broadcasters are defining the expansion target areas.

I checked this DAB+ radio in store - could barely hear it over the background music!

    20 Station Preset = 10 FM, 10 DAB+

In glorious Mono through 1 small speaker, but has stereo out via headphone socket.

    • Agreed. I bought this when it was half price a while ago (do a search if you're keen, I posted it) but it ended up in a cupboard. Sound was very weak.
The Aldi one I got was sufficient.

  • Is there some trick to using the presets as I have several similar dab radios and can never preset a station and I guess they all use the same dab chip.
Dab radio seems to be crippled in Australia with low bit rates and poor signal strength such that the quality is below parr. On a bad day my Dab radios pop and splutter or just cut out all together so it sure is a half baked implementation of digital radio.

The tuner circuit board / chip in this is used in a number of DAB+ radios.

Check the manual for setting presents - I've never had a problem with a few different DAB+ units.

The political decisions made early on, limits it's sound quality.
Sampling rates are low, so multiple stations can be broadcast.

Most DAB+ radios only have mono sound & a basic speaker. Feeding the stereo output from the socket to a stereo amplifier does improve the sound - but the sampling rate still is the limitation.

  • Wouldn't image battery lasts long but good backup if power goes out

  • Still waiting on DAB where I live.

Bought one today at BigW Macarthur Chambers (Brisbane CBD). There is still one left - the sales asst confirmed it's a clearance item.
This unit has a headphone socket for stereo; the inbuilt speaker is about 2cm, so poor sound. It seems to work okay, receiving all Brisbane stations.

    • It's was this price 17 months ago & was still stocked.

Unfortunately, crappy sound (low sampling rate transmission + small speaker), low volume, & mono sound defeats the purpose of stereo Digital Radio.
Larger DAB+ radios with better & larger speaker in similar priced past Deals had a better sound. Fed through a stereo amp, this model sounds lifeless compared to some other DAB+ radios.
(Am using a $10 one from a Target Deal, fed into car stereo with reasonable sound.)

Some areas of Brisbane don't receive DAB+, or it's patchy - behind hills.
