This is good for the beginner doomsday prepper/go bag.

Eventually you'd want one that's waterproof, hand crank for power and durable.

  • Great for emergency?

Is the appeal the long battery life? If so wouldn’t a powerbank and mobile phone serve the same purpose?

How many smartphones have AM radio?

  • I have seen the Philips one $10 on clearance in store at Target.

    • There's a lot of cheaper radios at the bottom there… Laser $10 "Buddee" $12 etc.

But I reckon the only people buying these are the folks who go to Rosehill Racecourse and Dapto Dogs when it was around.

Or use your $9 phone from HN…

    • I have the cheap Philips one and think it’s only worth $10. This Sony one should be better.

Have had one for a few years. The quality is questionable. Volume wheel developed jumps in volume which make adjustment hard.

    • Folks have one, bought second and both have volume control issue - stay clear!

      • how long did it take before it started having this problem? I was thinking of buying one. If it fails while under warranty, I might take the risk.

        • Within 12 months and second did same

    No band 28, no deal.

  • Great father's day gift for my old man.

  • what type of battery does it use?

EDIT: Looked it up. 2x AA. But I have no idea how long the batteries last.

EDIT 2: 100 hours if using speaker.

    Not bad.

I would buy if it was digital though, so you can save some stations for easy access and switching.
