Two new malay/bbq places just opened up near us, two weeks ago.
I'll include a third cheap one too, as they're on the same strip.

1. O'Town
   92 Kingsway, Glen Waverley (used to be opposite the station and moved, mixed rice king is also moving from around the corner.)

$8 (cash) lunch/dinner sets, 11am-8pm.
Meat x2, veg, rice, soup.
All contain pork. - except the Hainanese chicken (on rice, pictured).
There's also some $8-9 lunch dishes (darker page).

1. Glen City Roast Bar
   They've got some $12 dishes, $9.60 with the 20% off.
   I'll pop this up on another post since I got a link for it.

2. China Bar - 11-5.30pm.
   Also on the same strip, $10 daily lunch specials
   Curious as to how their Wednesday duck compares to roast bar.

As always best to pay by cash. There's a card fee and it's not <3%.

    Where does one normally buy $8 lunches? In the city cheap eats are $12+

    Before they moved, I think their prices were around $10.80.

  $8 at O'town is special price due to covid lock down and just relocating to that new location (they used to be near the rail way line near Dan Murphys. Most of the Asian restaurants in Melbourne have some sort of deal at the moment to keep their business running. Although the China Bar pricing at $12 seems to be normal pricing…

  Too bad about the 5km limit, this deal is only really useful for an extremely small amount of Ozbargainers.

  The $8 deal at O Town was available even before they moved to the new spot.

  Also highly recommend the grand tofu just a few doors away, although don't think they're running any COVID specials

  Wednesday is Roast Duck w/ Rice at China Bar for $10. I've not tried the Glen City Roast Bar, but I normally get this as the portions are pretty decent and the roast duck is quite nice (still rate Pacific House much higher, but need to stick within the 5km limit..so no complaints)

    Have you tried the bbq place across the street? Not sure what it's called.

      Ocean King is across from China Bar, and Rock Kung is across from Grand Tofu. I've tried both.
      I do prefer the roast meats from Ocean King compared to both Rock Kung and China Bar, but for a bargain the ones offered by China Bar are still okay.

        I believe Ocean King are also running $10 specials on selected dishes
