      Keep your receipt.

      • +3

A receipt won't help you. You'll be filed as an unsecured creditor and might get 50 cents in the dollar at the end of the day.

Coles will likely refund you, as a goodwill.

@airpoe: Yes, but you wouldn't rely on that happening.

          • @airpoe: I don't think Coles will refund you anything. They haven't owned Myer for almost 15 years.

    • Don't buy too many Myer gift cards …

Buy from a woolworths with a myer within a stones throw. Immediately spend your gift card/s.

Alternatively, don't buy any, and just invest in the rice.

  • If you believe Myer isn't going under.

    • If it happens it won’t be overnight. There will be a fire sale of stock first…

More often than not, gift cards aren't redeemable (dick Smith) or redeemable at a much lower value (Borders books honoured just 50% of the cards value) once administrators are appointed.

      • No there won't. It will be put into administration and the debt restructured like Virgin.

    can i use a colander?

    • To strain the rice? Yes, that is how my missus does it (with this same rice) and there doesn't appear to be any spillage of rice grains. But it probably depends on the colander itself.

Why not rinse pour and repeat once more. Does the trick, no wasteage

  • Cambodian ….

If you are picky then the Coles brand 1kg jasmine rice is the best of the supermarket offerings. Otherwise try the Thai brands at the Asian grocer. I also use a Japanese-style rice cooker - rice comes out fluffy & moist.

    • What's wrong with rice from Cambodian?

I use this rice and the microwave rice cooker. 12 minutes - rice comes out fluffy & moist too ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Any rice cooker will cook rice perfectly if rice to water ratio is correct. Cheap K-mart one will do the trick.

      • +1

I have the kmart one. The Japanese-style ones vary time depending on temperature and have 6 cooking stages. It produces far better results. It also has settings for brown rice & sushi rice.

For anyone wondering, it's becoming much more difficult to recycle the Myer gift cards into Coles Myer gift cards for spending on groceries to the point that I don't think it's worth the risk any more.

I thought I'd try my luck when the last bonus 10% offer was available and I had to go to a few different Myer stores and go register-shopping until I found staff who weren't clued on enough to deny the transaction. The Myer POS will allow you to pay for a Coles Myer GC with a Myer GC but the staff just trot out the standard you can't buy a gift card with a gift card as it's against the law line which is questionably truthful but I wasn't going to start making a scene about it.

I managed to convert about $650 over the course of a couple of weeks but I still have another $220 GC that I haven't been able to slip past anyone.

    • Lol brilliant plan :)
I think you should stick with the $2 offers here with the Pensioner's Club .

      • I don't understand this reply. Was it meant to be some kind of joke?

    • Don't hold too much in Myer GCs - they're not in the best financial shape.

      • Yeah. I know.
