This is a great deal given the recent pricing of webcams in general. Thanks!

    • why recent

      • +13

Everyone bought one when working from home started. Availability went down; prices up.

        • Pretty sure prices will drop significantly since Covid-19 is settling down now

          • @neonlight: Where is it settling down? Australia and NZ are the luckiest parts of the world. Other western countries have 10s of thousands of cases a day atm.

          • +5

@neonlight: Actually prices will probably go up once Melbourne gets locked down further due to the covidiots crowding at St Kilda beach on the weekend

  • +2

yep paid 199 a month ago for this model and I did fish around before finding no bargains. Good deal. Gotta face the facts in this supply shortage that webcams are exy.

    • +2

A quick scan of your past and I thought you wrote webcams are sexy. I suppose it depends what you do with them.

      • -3

        why cams shortage

        • Duhhhhh

        • +1

You've bought them all? What's your site?

        • working from home

        • FoMo. Same as toilet paper.
Everyone has a phone with camera and there’s cheap software to use it as a webcam.

          • @AlexF: Plus most of the video calling applications you can join from your phone anyway using the native app (teams/Skype/zoom/etc)

I've been using my old phone with droidcam app, works well.

Streamers though, would need something like this

            • @klownz: Do you know why a phone cam is less ideal for streaming than a webcam?

  • yep finally prices started to drop!

  • +3

oh, shit… bought it yesterday for 179…

  • Anyone have a recommendation for a camera for a conference/ meeting room?

    • How big is the meeting room and for how many people?

      • +1

About 6m x 4m, not more than 5 people, I've got a TV in there and was thinking to hook up some sort of raspberry PI and connect a conference webcam to it + wireless keyboard mouse?

        • +1

I have this model and use it for this exact scenario once a month and it works great for my team around the country. I'm going to get a different mic to run to the table that will improve the audio a bit. But the camera works fantastic for us.

        • Depends on your needs I guess and budget. There are a number of options for different price points. Also remember might be a good idea for a speakerphone for better audio and microphone quality as well.

If you want to go fairly budget friendly under say $450, I've had to hook up a Logitech C930 webcam (wider field of view) with a portable speakerphone: polycom calisto 7200 (for better audio n microphone pickup) serving a relatively small room for 4 or so people around an oval table.

          • @DannyC: You're a legend, thank you
Do you have any thoughts re a product like Comica Boomx D2 for giving better wireless audio for a smartphone with 2 inputs?

            • +1

@Alialh: I haven't had hands on experience with the Comica Boomx, personally for your boardroom use it is not suitable as these sorts of devices are good for say an interview that requires crisper audio pickup or if you're doin work that requires very precise audio.

For a boardroom setting, I used that Poly Calisto P7200 for better microphone pickup as it has 4 directional microphones to pick up voices and has relatively decent audio output during a meeting, as multiple people may be speaking. You can hook up the Poly Calisto via Bluetooth to your smartphone to improve your audio and microphone pickup quality as well. It is very portable and has a security cable to secure it so no-one can steal it.

For my work uses moving towards these web based video meeting tools (Zoom, teams etc), the Logitech webcam with the poly speakerphone is a cheaper solution than doin a full system setup… which costs thousands of $. If it is for a smaller room should be sufficient.

              • @DannyC: Thanks mate for your time and for answering my questions, last question if I may, for connecting it to a TV, do you have any recommendations on what sort of mini computer system that I'd plug directly into the TV? I have network behind the TV also

  • Glad to see that people aren't talking about pre-COVID prices and all that.

This is definitely a good deal during this period

  • Good thing prices are adjusting back to what they are actually worth…

    • -3

Things are worth what the majority of people will pay for them. Supply better matches demand now, so the prices are dropping.

      • +3

Seems like people don't think your comment is worth much.

Thus, your comment isn't worth much.

  • Are they any good for streaming at 1080/30?

    • -3

      what about 1080p60?

      • +1

It specifies only 1080p30, so I'm guessing 60fps is out of the question.

  • +1

How is this 7% cash back on CR or SB? It falls under electronics which is 0% doesn’t it?

    • +4

Every time i use amazon i get 0% lol

Electronics, pots and pans, cutlery, groceries.

  • gone! Ozbargined.

  • Heck the price went back up to $186.50

  • i see it for $186 now…

    • yep, that went quick, for that price you can get C930 on Ebay from Harris Tech.

  • Whattt that was all for 20 mins…..

  • +2

I'm not sure if there are any better options out there, but in my experience these cams are terrible in terms of video quality

    • you had these?

      • Yep. And also had about 30 for work-related purpose (events). They are ok for zoom/hangout meetings. But at the same time laptop cameras work fine for this purpose as well. Not the same level, these standalone cameras are obviously better, but they are not good enough for anything apart from video meetings.

And in the case of bad lighting - my oneplus3 and oneplus6 cameras are hundred times superior.

So as I have told - I don't know if there are any better web-cameras out there. It's just seems like noone actually trying to make something decent in this area. Personally I would never pay 120aud for these. If you need a camera for meetings - just grab the cheapest one. If you do some web-cam porn, well, maybe these would work.

        • This camera is fantastic, particularly under low light conditions. Maybe you are talking about a different model or had some settings hard coded.

    • My experience with this exact model is the opposite, it's far superior to any built-in webcam on any laptop. With decent lighting, it's actually an extraordinary picture quality. The other participants on my calls always ask what camera I am using. Now I have a lighting rig and a Rode mic that I use which helps a lot too - but this camera is excellent.

      • Crikey you really want to look your best on the cam!

        • during covid even job interviews are now done via web cams ….so yes you do want to look good ….

  • +3

I'm split. I'd been wanting a better quality webcam for a while.

But my grainy c320 let's me get away without shaving for an extra day or two, as it's so blurry no-one could tell the difference

  • +2

Oh well going to take it as $120 saved…..

  • +1

Expired… gotta be quick on isolation items!

  • go to the "other seller option", Amazon still has them for $119 rather than Harris at $186 ….

  • +2

not in the market for one but recently came across an article online demonstrating that it is possible to rig up your DSLR to work as a webcam/live streaming camera. It'll be much superior quality to mainstream webcams if you've got a spare DSLR/tripod handy.

    https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/using-nikon-d750-webc…

    • Aperture is not in the same league.
Works if you have a DSLR handy for minimal incremental cost - not everyone has a DSLR though…

  • +1

I had a cheaper chinese non-brand 1080p Webcam that did okay… but I hated it's wide angle lens

The samples of this looked far better and finally at a price point I liked so bit the bullet, thanks OP!

    Thanks OP!

    • no worries hope you got it at the cheaper price!

  • Even tho it’s finished now does it work well on the Xbox one?

  • Aaaaaand it's gone.

  • Sold out faster than toilet paper.

  • +1

    Thanks OP got one

    • hope you got it at cheaper price ?

      • +1

        Yes :)

  • +2

Is this the camera that launched for $99 like 5 years ago

  • +1

I purchased this camera back in March just before the webcam pricing went crazy (and for slightly cheaper than this deal). It's a great camera for anyone interested!

  • +3

FYI, for those of you who missed this deal, but have a Canon or Fujifilm camera, just a reminder that you may be able to repurpose it as a webcam.

    https://www.canon.com.au/services-and-apps/eos-webcam-utilit…

    https://fujifilm-x.com/en-us/webcam-support/

I've been switching between the Canon 80D + 24mm pancake lens and the Fujifilm X-T3 + 27mm pancake lens. Both combos have better image quality and autofocus than the laptop webcam. It's been working great for Zoom and Teams calls.

    • works on nikon cameras as well as per my comment above. I think it's a great alternative if webcam use is not permanent or if there's a spare camera handy.

      • Cool, I didn't realise Nikon had it too. Thanks for the heads up.

  • +2

Bought one almost 2 years ago from JB Hi Fi - can't remember the price (I want to say ~$150?)

As far as webcam's go, the quality is pretty good for team conferences and all that - no complaints at all. Video and mic are really good.

As far as streaming goes…if you're just going to keep a little window of yourself playing games, you'll look crisp! (e.g., record 1080p, shrink yourself down to 360p).
Mic quality is okay but not as good as something like a Blue Yeti or Samson Meteor.

If you're doing a full window of yourself…the picture will come out a bit grainy because (IMO) the camera doesn't capture a whole lot of light and even after using Windows webcam adjustments or v4l2 set-ctl on Linux…it can only do so much.
However, if you are you are streaming on a budget and hellbent on using this cam, I'd recommend having good lighting around you to counter the grainy-ness.

I just picked up a laptop with no webcam, and being cheap I discovered apps that let you use your phone as a webcam for PC. I've tried a couple on iphone and been happy.
Iriun is free, decent quality and works well over wifi, getting 720p with just a slight lag.
There's one called Epoccam which seemed laggy over wifi and low quality until you pay for premium, but it works over usb which should be very reliable.

Seems like a good way to make use of the much better camera you already have, if you just want something a bit less shit than a laptop webcam.

    • I've been using EpocCam for about the past 6 months with a spare iPhone 6.

      seemed laggy over wifi

It's only noticeably laggy if your wifi is slow. For me, it's almost seamless - until peak hours where the wifi comes to a crawl. (Note: the lag may be also caused by the computer's hardware too - I've found that running several programs in the background can cause the video feed to lag too)

      pay for premium

The Premium option is quite worth it - in short, you're able to utilise all the functionality of your phone's normal camera. From memory, Premium costed $12 - which is quite a cheap alternative if you have a spare smartphone.

Here's a link to where you can find out more information about Free vs Premium (you'll need to scroll down to find the comparison table)

Still waiting on past Winc deal lol

  • +1

I have one of these. I was pretty pissed with how they marketed it with "background removal without greenscreen". there's nothing in the software that does it and you have to purchase a third party software if you want background removed…
Anyway, if I'm just inept and there is a way to do it on the Logitech software please enlighten me.

    • If, by chance, you have an RTX card - Nvidia Broadcast can perform the same function.

      • +2

of course I'd have an AMD. just my luck :')

    • The included xsplit does it. However when first released it came with a perm license for other background removal software. Now they have seem to include a three month license for xsplit. I will be extra salty if the backgrou d removal stops in three months

      • +1

I didn't think about the free 3 months of Xsplit that came with it, that makes sense. Still kinda shitty marketing from their end. They made it seem like it was intergrated into the Logitech software. Oh well, I tried Xsplit Vcam and thought it was good but I'm not too keen to spend the extra $50 just to remove the watermark. oh well, que sera sera

  • +5

I payed $199 for one of these at JB HIFI a few months back, I had about an hour before so wasn't really able to peruse any deals at the time….still I think it's a decent price given the cost of them in the last 6 months.

    PRO's

Good camera, good microphone for work purposes. Camera is really clear, no graininess or weird colours. Microphone is clear too, clearer than a mobile phone in a quiet room if that makes sense. Another great thing is that it comes with a little tripod you can set up without having to muck about and adjust your monitor stands and all the rest. Has an auto-light adjustment that works as intended…most of the time.

    CONS

The image flickers and lags if the webcam can't work out how to 'set' the auto-lighting (doesn't seem to like open windows or low lamp lamp lighting etc). It's also got a usb cable that can't be removed from it (at least I don't think it can be), and I'm absolutely anal about cable and wire management. Most of the stuff I use is wireless, so I have to pack it away otherwise it drives me nuts. No privacy screen, so scammers can see me fapping…I always look straight into the webcam to assert dominance anyway so it's not a big deal

It's overpriced at $199, but reasonable price at ~$120 imo.
