Massively inconveniences thousands, offers 5-10c worth of FB points as compensation….classy!!

    • +8

Yes should be more like 10x - 20x.

      • Agree.
Pathetic incentive and short period of 2 days only.

    • -5

They’re not taking any of your money, right?

Doesn’t it the same inconvenience like DJ or Myer when the items are OOS after we put it in the cart??

      • +26

Driving down to your local Coles, going around the shop with a trolley and grabbing all the items from your list, and getting to the checkout only to find out that you can't actually buy anything is in fact not the same inconvenience as a few mouse clicks.

        • +2

I am sure they had to go through the inconvenience of putting everything back from thousands of trolleys. They got their punishment.

      • +24

        That’s called entitlement.

        • +2

Absolutely, but I'm looking at it purely from a customer retention point of view.

Some bonus points for people who probably won't be able to use them because they just finished their shopping can easily do more harm than good.

        • I'm pretty sure Joe Hockey told us the days of entitlement were over. It was around the time he dared General Motors to close Holdens, which they did the next day.

      • +9

Even if they wanted to, the registers are down, so they can’t activate any gift cards.

          • +6

@tamerg: The irony of hindsight is 20/20

          • +8

@tamerg: Lol wot ? then we have everyone ringing their mates coming down to buy a bottle of milk, leave it behind and get a free gift card. Let alone the debacle of needing how many exactly ? 2000 or 20,000 ?

If you don't like Coles then go elsewhere.

            • +2

@ruprectaus: Do it for people already in the store and turn everyone else away. Easy.

No one expects anything for rocking up and a store being closed, but Coles will lose customers in the people who were at the checkout with a trolley load of goods and told to get out, then offered 3x points for their troubles.

      • +1

Maybe not $20 gift card but 3x flybuys are really half-arsed

    • +7

Well free delivery is something. What do you want them to do? If a small retailer shut down for the same thing would you expect some massive compensation?

      • +3

I know right. It’s not like they made over $1B in profit last year…..no wait….

McDonald gives out free Big Mac vouchers if they have to shut down. Coles has customers spend lots of time shopping then turns them away….

        Yep, 5c sounds right…

        • +2

McDonald gives out free Big Mac

I think Coles free shipping is worth a bit more than that.

    • +3

My store was giving away "vouchers" worth $2, can't imagine anyone being happy with it though

    • +1

Imagine wasting hours going to Coles to load up on your big family shopping, only to have to abandon it. Wasted time and also what if that was dinner tonight or lunch for tomorrow and you don't have more time to shop that day because family stuff or work. Imo everyone in each store should have got to keep what was in their carts when they decided to lock everyone out. Or a 60 second spree where they can all keep what they can hold in their arms.

  • +18

Woolworths have been doing 3x points for weeks and will until the end of November.

    • I don't have that in my rewards points

      • +9

You have to choose Save for Christmas to get the 3x points.

        • I've chosen Save for Christmas, but doesn't confirm 3x points? Is this an assumed thing? First time changing, since mine was previously on QFF

        • how do you do this please??

          • +1

@Camerlottoo: Go into your W Rewards app and log into your account to see if you have this offer. Activate it and you should be right to get 3x until end of November

            • +1

@min2: A lot of the offers are not working I find. Deceitful.

  • And from where to grab this $50 delivery deal? Couldn't able to find O.o

    • +1

      coles online
      choose delivery slot
      they are all free

you dont need a code, it's free for everyone

      • Thanks mate yeh it works. What about the points, there are also automatic and does not need any prior activation?

        • For instance, If I have an offer for 2000 points on $90 shopping, will I get 2000 points + 3x points?

          • +4

@Freeza: Read the t&c. Usually it applies to base points only. The bonus points is excluded.

  • +1

I put an order through earlier.. free delivery has already begun

    • Do you have to pay for bags?

      • +1

        Yes :(

      • +1

If you use Coles eBay you get free bags and free delivery, but a limited range.

  • +2

What a joke this was today, had a full basket of items I could not purchase. Thank god i had the common sense to walk out after 15 minutes and not waste a second longer. I would not want to be buying any of the old product that was sitting in trolleys for hours that they no doubt restocked on shelves. Lots of of people are going to be getting some nasty ice cream and meat and fish tomorrow. Serious problem with store so best to avoid for a week or more now.

    • -2

They’ll just slap a 25% off all ice cream for a week. Tho surely there is some procedure they have for this sort of thing, given no one can safely tell how long something of this nature has been left out.

      • +23

I was working when the shutdown happened, at my store everything was put away within 30 mins with priority on frozen stock, we had every person at the store doing loose stock

        • Can I ask, what was actually happening on the POS's? Was it the same on the sco's?

        • +10

So when you combine that with the time people were walking around the supermarket shopping with product in basket then waiting for the issue to be fixed in line before they decided to go home you have meat and ice cream outside the fridge for up to an hour if not more in some cases. Exactly the reason people should avoid.

          • @zombrex: Yeah I was assuming this was the case and was planning on shopping at Woolworths instead for a while, they are already offering 3x points anyway.

        • +3

Also the same supermarkets that don't accept returns due to covid will now restock shelves with items people have hand their hands all over. Funny how the rules always go the way that benefits the supermarket's bottom line.

    • -6

All refrigerated items left in trolleys or baskets will be dumped.

    • +3

And is it safe to touch these items if a member of th public had handled them for some time (plus the Coles worker too)?

  • +11

    150 flybuys points = 75 cents. It's a 0.015 ie 1.5% off $50 spent. Just FYI.

    • +2

The free delivery saves at least $12 though.

      • +2

        eBay Coles free delivery

        • +8

eBay Coles has to be the worst concept of all time. I don't think I have come across a more un-user friendly site, Seriously not good. Add on top of that, you get free delivery for order over just $50 which is good… except the little catch of it could be 5 business days to be delivered!!
That's the nice little reward you get for being an eBay Plus member! Cheers

          • +1

@hutchjnr: All my orders have always been delivered on the 3rd day after ordering. Ordered Wednesday night 8pm. Arrives 6am Friday.

Website usage is okay just need to know how to use it.

And can use eBay gift cards to pay.

10% off code too for eBay plus members…

            Free bag costs too.

            • +1

@Turd: @Turd Even 3 days after ordering is pushing it, and it states it could be 5 days or more (they say 3-5 days NORMALLY)!

If you order straight through Coles' website it's within 2 days… You don't find that pretty screwed up? I mean if anything, it should be a shorter delivery time for being an eBay Plus member, not longer.

              Website usage is okay

I'll take that as acknowledgement that it is pretty bad

just need to know how to use it

And how would that be? I didn't know there was a trick to it or I needed to master something?! Again - it is not user friendly if it requires "knowing" how to use it…

              • +1

                @hutchjnr: Wow 1day.

I rather buy from eBay Coles.

Coles online you can't even use Coles gift cards you gotta use card

                • @Turd:

                  Wow 1day.

                  What are you talking about?

In no way is it better and to be honest either online method really isn't good enough. We gave it a go once about a month ago and the process is flawed.
For instance, when certain products aren't in stock they just substitute it with something else. In most cases is not what you would get if you were at the shops yourself. Coles really need to put in a lot more work for it to be a worthwhile option in my opinion.

                  • @hutchjnr: Agreed, when ordering from coles online they do substituted unless you say not to.
With ebay though Ive found if they dont have stock they just refund the amount to you.

Oh well each to their own ways etc….

I generally buy heavy items like cans or stuff if they have stock on ebay coles, so they deliver to my door without having to lift heavy items.

        • eBay coles only available in a very limited area.

          • +1

@abc: and a very limited range of items.

    • now that you it that way as percentage…

  • -6

    I got both offers combined

Today we experienced a technical issue with our point of sale system in Coles supermarkets nationally. We were briefly unable to process transactions, which we know would have been frustrating for customers shopping in our stores. We're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.

As a thank you for the patience shown to our team members while they worked hard to get us back up and running, this weekend all shoppers in Coles supermarkets and Liquorland stores will receive triple Flybuys points on their food, groceries or liquor purchases.

And to help customers who were unable to complete their shopping in-store, we're offering free home delivery on our online shopping orders of $50 or more until Sunday 18 October. You can shop online with Coles here.

We value everyone that shops with us and thank you for bearing with us as we get back up on our feet.

    Kind Regards,
    The Coles Team

  • -3

Yeah, nah. Woolworths or aldi from here on

    • +2

      Woolworths doesn’t want your pennies.

      • i was banned from Aldi fans group not happy jan

  • +1

The website seems to be down again

  • +8

I guess it's true that at coles it's down down down.

  • +5

I had an offer in my FB app to get 2,000 points for $60 spend, I went in Friday at 6pm and wound up having to go to Aldi to get what I needed.

Now today to compensate for the inconvenience they are going to give me 120 bonus points instead of 2,000. wohoo with a lower case w.

    • +2

Yes they do not live in the real world

  • +2

If there is a jump in cases after this, will Coles be blamed for the event?

    • -1

Big business is untouchable so I say no.

      Even the peasants defend them.

  • +3

Yes a big fail, but more concerning the attitude of staff, when you have a problem in store. Time to improve Coles.

    • They are just retail workers, can't help with technical issues can they?

      • can't help with technical issues can they?

        No they can't

        the attitude of staff

Hence why their attitude should be better than @corrocoat mentioned.

  • OT, but in Woolworths ERewards, if you change from QF points earning be careful to keep your QF account active so as to not lose those points. I know it’s two years with no activity before QF points are lost, but just keep an eye on it.

    • Isn’t it 18 months?

      • Yes I think it is.

  • +1

At least Coles GCs are back on Suncorp. This makes me lenient on the whole fiasco.

    • +1

Too bad I can't pay with amex for those to earn points.

  • Is it free delivery for first time customers anyway?

    • +1

      but not for $50 spend.

      • Ah OK, that's not bad in this case. I seldom spend over $50-60

  • Damn I had an offer for triple points for this week anyway.

  • Sorry Ignore this.
