Just saw this monitor as I'm in the market for a second monitor. Good price from what I can see from previous deals for it posted on here.

Expires at the end of tomorrow I think.

  • Wow great post OP. I'm looking for a monitor too. I have BENQ VW2220H (22"VA panel+HDMI) in consideration. Hmm, it is about the same price as this DELL U2312HM 23".
Not sure which one to buy now.. thanks to you. :P This Dell monitor doesn't have HDMI port? What a shame.

    • +1

Well the monitor doesn't have audio so it would be kind of pointless. You could always use a HDMI to DisplayPort or HDMI to DVI cable though.

      • any mini-HDMI to displayport or DVI exist?

        • +1

Guys, some info updates. This DELL U2312HM 23" uses LG e-IPS, 6 bits only. Well, you can't expect to have 8 bit with this price.
Read some negative reviews on its performance (colour washed out, especially on blue colour) and built quality (not as good as its previous U3212H).
I may just buy my BENQ monitor but again this is still a great deal from DELL. :D

    • +3

BENQ is a VA panel, Dell is an IPS. I'll pick a better panel over audio and connectivity even if the dell cost $50 more.

      • +1

Just because it uses an IPS panel doesn't necessarily mean it's better than the other, you can even get TN screens that have better colour reproduction than these.

        • +1

You may be able to get slightly better colour reproduction, but your viewing angles would suck. For me, good enough colour + great viewing angle is better than good colour + poor viewing angle. Plus the Dell has a swivel stand, if you are into that kind of thing :)

      • $50 more for a good IPS monitor is great bargain, but for Dell's substandard IPS, I'm not sure.

    • +1

No comparison in my opinion. Especially if you consider the Dell has a 3 year 'Perfect Panel' warranty while last time I checked BENQ only offered a multiple dead/bright pixel warranty. Personally I hate dead/bright pixels.

AFAIK; Only LG, Samsung off complete panel warranties on all models; while Dell and Asus offer it on some.

EDIT: Height adjustable stand vs fixed would be enough for me too.

      • Dell offers a premium pixel warranty but not a perfect pixel one as far as I'm aware. They will replace a screen if so much as one bright subpixel appears, HOWEVER they will allow upto 6 dead subpixels to appear before considering the panel defective.

BenQ offer no dead/bright pixels for the first 7 days of purchase.

LG one some monitors have pixel perfect warranties which is pretty impressive…

I've bought two Dell U2412M's last month and both have one dead subpixel on them - not happy …

When I bought a benq a few years ago it had two bright pixels and had the screen replaced by the reseller same day.. Other BENQ monitors I've bought have been without pixel issues but suffered backlight issues (early LED models)…

  • I'd definitely go for DELL here

  • I own this monitor, the bottom right hand side of the display has a blue tint. that's visible on any dark colors i have tired adjusting the back-light (brightness) this seems to make the problem worse.

as odd as this sounds I think its the power led that's bleeding though the LCD

I'm thinking of sending it back i have only had it about a week, this is a very good price i paid $215 -7% cash back

I have the 2412H and had the same issue with a blue tint to the screen. You should be able to fix this by

Start -> Search for color -> Color Management

Download ones for the 2312 and 2412
      http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm#d

Add them then try them by selecting them and clicking "Set as Default Profile"

You could also try making your own custom calibration by going to the advanced tab and click "Calibrate display"

      • Thanks I will try that, can I ask if the blue tint you had was localised to one area of the display ?

  • Awesome, order one to replace my aging DELL 2407WFP

  • so half are saying the monitor is a good deal, and half saying it's got issues??

  • Seems a good deal to me. As I don't know much about monitors could anyone please tell me if this is the right monitor for me?

    1. I spend more than 8 hrs doing word processing, writing emails and web browsing. My current AOC TN monitor really hurts my eyes at the end of the day…
    2. I play games (Battlefield 3 and GTA4) After hours of course :)
Is this monitor good for gaming?
    3. If I have my own speakers, would HDMI really make a difference from a DVI port?
    4. How's Dell's after service like? What happen if I have defects (burn pixel eg.) on my new DELL monitor?
    5. I just read some articles online, it seems that backlight on an IPS panel bleeds quite badly. Is that really an issue?

    Much appreciated.

      1. The IPS panel should help because its greater viewing angle should give your neck less strain, but giving your eyes a rest every 20-30min would be better :)
      2. IPS screens have slightly longer lag than TN panels, I have the U2211 and play some FPS games and personally haven't found it an issue, but I'm not one of those people who blame the wireless lag on their mice for missing a kill.
      3. nope.
      4. Can't comment on this because I haven't had a problem with my Dell yet…fingers crossed
      5. Mine bleeds a little in the corners, it's noticeable at night with a dark screen in a dark room but it's not annoyingly distracting, and I don't really notice it under normal use.
    • yes its excellent for gaming it has very low input lag which is more important than the 8ms Response Time.

"If I have my own speakers, would HDMI really make a difference from a DVI port?"

short answer is no it will not make any difference

4 I'm not going to comment on just yet
5 mine has back light bleed I don't see it unless i look for it, apart from what ever it is in the bottom right of my display

      • thanks so much ozscharfschutze and mr_fjackson. :D
I think I'll order one today. First time buying a DELL product. Hope everything will be alright. Fingers crossed.

  • i brought 1 from the last deal - Its Great :) - No Prbs what so ever

  • +4

For those that care, it's only 1920x1080. Not 1920x1200.
For me it's the line between being a good deal and just meh.

  • shall I wait a bit longer or buy this one ?
it is a question I am asking myself now.

    • +1

I'd wait for the U2412M to go on sale. If you're going to buy a new IPS monitor, and with prices falling as they are, you may as well spend a bit more and get the 24" 1920x1200 resolution rather than 23" 1920x1080 of this screen. Will be a much better long term investment.

      • it's what I am thinking as well.

        hold on, mate.

Color gamut of U2412M is absolutely the same as this one : 82%.
        Bugger, tempting.

        • Once you try a 16:10 you won't want to go back to 16:9 screens (for computer use anyway) :)

  • Does anyone know how this monitor compares to the LG IPS236V-PN? It seems that the LG has a slimmer profile and quicker response time. However, the Dell has adjustable height and no HDMI. I am thinking of getting either one of these for a friend, what do you guys think?

    • I've owned a large number of Dell monitors and have always been happy with them. Decent service and a quality product. I don't know what the warranty is like with LG but Dell 3 Year warranty on this monitor is decent and if there is a problem down the line they'll look after you.

  • wow this is good price

  • +2

Just got one! Great price. I gave my old U2311h to my wife two months ago and bought a new Benq E2420 . It turns out that the Benq has been killing my eyes. My suggestion is that IPS is totatlly worth its relatively higher price.

  • +1

Just to add to raygreyant comment. I have the same experience too. Once you've used IPS screen, TN screen simply look SOO ugly and to me TN is not worth it even if it is free.

  • Much better value than the crappy ST2320L posted a few days ago. I have the U2412M (its better value to get the U2412M on special over this IMO due to the 1920x1200 resolution, but not everyone seems to like 1920x1200 for some reason), and it's awesome. Totally agree with others that once you have an IPS screen, TN panels looks horrible.

Do note though, that in order to get the most out of this monitor you'll want to get the calibrated monitor settings and ICC colour profile from here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm#d . The factory settings are way too bright and slightly off in terms of colour reproduction.

  • Tempted. :)
Has anyone been using this monitor on web surfing and text editing? Does it hurt your eyes? As this is a 16:9 monitor, I've heard that 16:10 monitors are better for web surfing and text editing.. Is it really true? Hope someone can answer me. Thanks in advance. :D

    • +1

I've got the 24" U2412M model, with 1920x1200 resolution. I can use it for a whole day without my eyes feeling strained.

I have a 23" monitor 1920x1080 next to it, and it never gets used. Once you experience 16:10 you won't want to use 16:9 ever again haha. So much more screen space really does make web surfing/text editing/photo editing/pretty much anything a lot better. Hope that helps :)

  • I was almost about to get it last time for ~$215, but thought I'd wait for Xmas sale… will it get any cheaper or do I jump on it now?

  • Wow - ordered yesterday and delivered today.

    • Got mine too, and ordered yesterday too. :)

  • Bought 1 on the 15th, arrived today the 17th but is faulty, organizing a replacement… but wont arrive for another 4 days..

    • Actually I had the same problem… hrmm.. my replacement is also on the way.

      • What kind of faults are you guys experiencing?

        • I have one bright red pixel in the middle of the screen.

  • I ordered mine on the 15th and paid on the same day but its still stuck on order received :(

    Any ideas??
