The drift issue on my joycon controllers was starting to annoy me, so I found this when I did a search. If you are not phased with the colour, then $98 is currently the lowest price. AUS stock so it should come within the week.

If it's just a drift issue, you can buy one of those DIY kits and replace the thumb sticks yourself. It's not difficult.

    • Is that all it is to it? I replaced my shells but didnt know I could resolve the drift issue. Is there a website with a how to guide? thx

I haven't done the replacement personally (I have electronics experience), but my friend who has zero electronics experience bought the kit and followed a youtube video and got it fixed no issues.

I also watched the youtube (there are plenty of them) how-to out of interest and it didn't look difficult. No soldering or any complicated things. Screws and clips for the ribbons. You just need to be delicate with the ribbons.

      • I'd recommend getting some Contact Cleaner rather than replacing the analogue sticks. It's the best, fastest, and easiest solution, and doesn't require disassembling your Joy-Con. Like any other solution though, it's not a permanent fix, so it'll need a reapplication every 4 months or so.

I've already had mine apart to replace the locks with metal ones, because it stopped locking into place. Then I had to replace a PCB because the SL/SR buttons stopped working. I also put some anti static foam in one of them when they first came out to help with BlueTooth interference.

Now I noticed my left stick has shocking drift when I push up, it makes games unplayable.

These things have terrible quality, so many things go wrong and they're not exactly cheap to replace.

I read that Nintendo will fix drift for free, so might pop down there when they open again.

    • Even less difficult is buying this cool new purps and orange set.

Nintendo should make some slightly oversized Pro Joycons with proper sized analog sticks.

How anyone can handle using these standard ones more often than once in a blue moon is beyond me tbh.

I call these the sweet potato joycons

    This is the best colour.

    • Ready for Halloween

    • looks more like fuchsia

    • Agree, looks great with the standard blue and red. Now you have 4 great colour selection to chose from.

      • I've got grey as my standard but still think these will be great. Gamecube colours.

I only have the 1 set so far, and never sure when to buy the 2nd one as they could release great colours next week.

Contact Nintendo support about your drift issue and they'd fix it for free as long as you can provide proof of purchase. Their service center isn't open atm due to covid lockdown but when they do, you can contact them to get it repaired.

I got my launch switch repaired in July just before they closed. I tried contacting them again as my right stick is drifting now

    • They are open. It's just via email and slower.

Edit: Sorry I did mine during covid but during the first wave (not since July like you say) so might be wrong.

Definitely go through your place of purchase if you can. Harvey Norman was kind enough to submit on my behalf even though out of warranty.

Why do they need proof of purchase? I can't even remember where I bought mine from, it was 3 years ago :)

    • I contacted them and I got an automated seeming response that says to send it down and if they don't find anything wrong either pay $20 or let them dispose of my JoyCon which i'm really concerned they'll do since it's 2 years out of warranty and they haven't really acknowledged my issue. Plus the same JoyCon has the thing where it just slides out without being unlocked so I'm concerned they'd blame me. Is that the same as what you got?

    • Will they fix a joycon intermittently not connecting? I'm sure it's the joycon and not the switch because the same joycon has the same issue when connected to my ring con, only worse. I have another set of joycons anyway, but it's annoying because I like the red one the most.

Nintendo fixed my 2017 (I think) joycons this year that had drift. Just gotta send them away for a week.

    • Sadly Nintendo's service centre is closed due to COVID lockdown. I'm waiting for them to reopen so I can get all of my joycons repaired.

    • do you send the entire unit, or only the joncons?

been waiting for the service centre to re-open.

Also did you pay for the repair or would it be the same as US where they will do a free repair (and postage) for joycon drift?

      • +1

It was just the joycons, no fee. They just asked for proof of purchase.

        • Received mine as a gift :( no receipt / PoP. Would have expected a company like Nintendo to be able to track their devices…

  • Thanks @PreSsieGuY @spirrowhack. Ill contact them and use the old controllers as backup once nintendo are open again

Personally I love the alternate colours. This is a good deal, and it is possibly the lowest price this colour has been, if not only since covid.

In regards to drift, Nintendo support got back to me within a couple of days with warranty support forms and labels. My actual joy-con, from late 2017, took about 6 weeks to be returned to me when I sent it in May. No communication during that time, not confirmation of any kind. I just received a new left joy-con in the mail one day. I imagine they would contact you if your warranty claim was denied, to receive payment.

    • A few weeks ago amazon UK had a pair for around $65, but I missed out.

  • I used some WD-40 to get rid of my drift issue

  • Not the best price and will wait to see if something else come up.

  • +1

If you have drift issues don't reward Nintendo for crap design by buying a new one. Get a $30 can of contact cleaner from Bunnings and spray it under the joysticks.

  • +1

Buying new ones isn't going to help, problem still persists with them. Best to contact Nintendo and get them replaced or whatever.

  • My joycon cannot locked with the console properly.
they are very easy to slip out.
Should I send them to repair? Looks like there is $50 charge for that.
    Worth it?

    • You can but a kit to fix those. A bit finicky but not too hard if you set yourself up properly with heaps of light, a clear work area and patience.

    • $50? You can get a new joycon for that. Even if they fix it, it will happen again. It's a bad design.

I replaced the locks on mine with metal ones.
