I got my Pro Controller back in 2017 when I first got my Switch. No issues with drift yet.
Drift isn’t common with the Pro Controller, sticks are completely different to Joy-Cons
Calibrate it through the Switch Setting, it fixed the drift problem I had.

I almost always use the Pro controller for docked mode. Feels more comfortable than Joy-Cons imo
Also, no issues with distance. Joy-Cons lose their shit 5 metres away from the console.
Very nice controller for most games. Far better than using the Joycon Grip is most cases.
The d-pad does have issues with ghost inputs and swapping quickly between left/right (can be fixed with a "tape mod") so it's not great for platformers.

i have never seen genuine ones go < $60. This is a good price at the moment. I have bought 4 of these things since 2017 (they all work well).
While they may not go for that price if you're lucky you can score one for this price. My first one cost me $59 (including postage) after being on sale for $79 and then with a $20 Zip Pay promotion through Catch a couple of years ago.
Now my kids have discovered that these don't have the drift I can't keep them away from the 2 I've got - so at this price a 3rd will be welcome (yes, definitely that good).

8bitdo adapter + xb or ps4 controller is a lower cost alternative.
Only if you already have an Xbox or PS4 controller.
I tried that but found it annoying that the xbox controller has to be manually re-paired to the 8bitdo if I use it on an Xbox. You could just use the controller just for the Switch, but I also found it takes a while for the Switch to recognise the xbox controller each time, whereas the Switch joycons are instant. Maybe it's just me though…

Just like with others commented here I joined the wait list and kept waiting but nothing happened. I didn’t want to wait for the notification in case I missed it so I kept refreshing while I do other stuff on my computer. Suddenly I saw it was available to purchase at the Lightning Deal price after I refreshed for the nth time so I jumped on it and added it to cart then completed the purchase.
After reading the comments on Amazon, I'm not even sure it's an original controller everyone says it's fake the reviews are terrible.
Sort by recent. Lots of praise for the controller. AmazonAu is the official seller, no reason to be worried.

It's shipped and sold by Amazon AU, with Amazon support you can very easily get a replacement or refund with a new genuine controller, even if it's fake which is highly unlikely. Reviews for fake controllers are likely for customers that buy from new Amazon Marketplace sellers which are obviously scams (like the ones with really long names)

Still annoyed you can't use the Wii U Pro controller on a switch
You can with an adapter called the Mayflash Magic NS.
Works with many other controllers too, such as the Xbox One (Bluetooth model), PS4, PS3 and so on.
It is a bit pricey now however, about $30 IIRC.
