I have this, more than 2 years old and still going really well. Well worth the 550+ at the time.

    • Only bad thing to say is that the lack of dual boiler makes it hard to pump out 4+ cups for guests. Perfect for a few shots per day

I’m on my third one of these. They last about three years making 3-4 x coffees a day before the valves or pumps fail. Repair costs are usually close to new machine cost. Got a 5yr HN warranty this time in anticipation. Makes great coffee though!

      • @Bargearse, now that you have paid for the extended warranty the new machine will probably last you for years.
We bought the bes870 6yrs ago and paid up for 4yrs additional warranty and machine is still going strong and is brewing 4 or 5 cappuccinos a day, more if visitors come over.
One thing we do is descale on the 1st of every month to keep the insides clean since our water is mediocre.

Mine's old model 1st gen. Got it second hand, and have been using it for 7+ years (2-6 cups a day).

    Typical, eBay plus expired…

Sincerely hoping Amazon matches (or even better beats) this price for prime day!

    • Isn't today prime day?

  • Sorry, just logged in, wasnt the ebay code from 8 to 9PM? why does it say expired?

    • Daylight savings I guess

      • Ah OK, I am in QLD. Missed it.

      It’s 2123 now

      • Ya, my bad, forgot the daylight saving.

  • Great machine, one of our greatest purchases.

Good machine but in my experience things start breaking down after a couple of years unfortunately. Would not get another one based on this experience.

From someone who repairs these I absolutely hate Breville. They put their control boards right above the steam tanks, so when the seals perish after a few years then the water sprays all over the control gear and corrodes everything. The only coffee machines i service now are Delonghi (IMO the best and designed to be repaired), Miele and Jura (the last two expensive parts though).

      • Sounds about right. Either poor design or planned obsolescence. Thanks for the tips on the the more reliable machines.

      • Um get an Italian that lasts 50 yrs. All the white goods brands are consumer throwaways.

Any tips for someone thinking of fixing their own Sunbeam Barista Max? Water comes out of around the group head rather than through it essentially.

        • +1

Possibly the group head seal. Typically they're easy to replace. But if something else is happening inside the machine you'll probably have to pull it apart.

Unless you're willing to do that, you could send it to these guys…

          https://www.bravorepairs.com.au/

It's free delivery to their repair shop and they'll quote you on what needs to be done.

I've found them to be really good.

Feel free to message me if you need further help.

          • @[Deactivated]: For closure to this story… I opened it up… everything looked ok from what I could see so I closed it back up and called Bravo repairs. They couldn't do it, so I went to Metro Wide appliances and it was a broken valve. So I couldn't have done it myself without a spare (which they had). It now seems to be working well :)

  • Best purchase for me all year

  • Got this same truffle model a couple months ago. Works a treat. I had access to the Sunbeam EM7000 which has a stronger steam wand, the Barista Express sputters and whines for about 10-15 seconds before it gets a good steam. The EM7000 had water tank leakage within a year though… You win some you lose some?

Tbh the 10-15 sec where the steam wand isn't running at full speed is realy just a none issue, as the milk turns out nicely anyway.

    • After 10-15 seconds the Em7000 will have textured enough milk- for one cup anyway- and you can pull a shot at the same time!

  • Damn I missed this one.
