I had mine replaced by Apple out of warranty for $289, when they replace the battery you also get a new top case (which is the Aluminium part that includes the keyboard)

I was happy to pay the extra to know if anything goes wrong they will replace it and I didn’t have to spend time researching the replacement and doing the repair. Also i use my computer for work so the repair is tax deductible.

Yeah mine is just a personal PC and I’m too tightarse to spend nearly $300 on a battery replacement that would not be claimable on tax at all. I’ve replaced batteries in my iPhones before and had no issue and I’m aware of how to do it with the MBP from watching videos (i.e. you don’t need to take the mobo out for one thing, and use floss/string to remove the battery in conjunction with the adhesive remover).

Happy to pay this much and spend a few hours on my weekend replacing it myself. Horses for courses.

  • I paid $69.99 in May for one off eBay. Installed and has been working ever since. Seems like it could have been a deal! :)

Compared to this it would be. I’ve bought batteries on EBay before for my old iPhones but they haven’t lasted very long before they could stop holding a charge.

Was keen for this one specifically because Macfixit seems somewhat reputable and seemed to be a more middle ground between actually going to Apple and EBay.
