    • Option 1:
Total monthly cost after "upgrading" to XL and paying $600 ETC ($50 per month)…
      $65 plan cost + $50 ETC = $115 per month for an S20 FE with 180gb a month i.e. $0.639 per GB

      VS

      Option 2:
$99 plan cost and no ETCs = $99 per month for an S20 FE with 150gb a month i.e $0.660 per GB

Based on the above, Option 1 is marginally better on a per gb basis. You're essentially paying 16 for an extra 30gb i.e. paying $0.533 per gb ($16/30).

Is this the right way to think?

      • Yeah that is a better way to do the calculation… Thanks

  • My wife went from 60gb for $65 to 180gb for $60.

And with her iPhone 12, can access 5G… which is unfortunately available at the top of the street, not quite where we live yet.

Need to set a reminder in 12 months to downgrade plans :)

  • How people are cancelling plan via Chat?

I have dealt with 4 agents since yesterday. They all acknowledged that they will cancel the service and they have started working on, but then they never respond.

It's been extremely painful experience to deal with them.

    • Write up a complaint via Telstra website and you'll get yourself a manager from complaints department (takes 1-2 weeks though). Once they contact you via phone, ask them to send you a test email to have their email address handy because it's a pain to try to get to them via phone. Viola, you'll get yourself a manager to consult on whenever you need.

Are you able to pm me the contact details of the manager? I gave up with the consultant on the chat, they keep telling lies to me and took 1,2 hours for one response. Thanks.

        • You need to have established your own complaint from their website to get a manager assigned. They don't have just one manager for everyone. If I start handing out the details of my own complaint manager to anyone who asks, what do you think will happen?

  • After speaking to 6 agents, I finally got a new sim only plan - Medium plan $65 with 80gigs, with $15bux credit discount for 24 months and "student" discount (10%). So my monthly bill is $45bux.

    • How do you get the credit & student discount?
The contract is for 24 months

      • +1

I simply just asked if they can offer me any special promos if I change from Optus and they offered $10bux credit. Then I complained about the response delays of waiting 30min to 1 hr for a response then they added extra 5bux and extended this credit discount to 24months..I reactivated my uni email account to get the code haha..they emailed me these discounts so I have proof incase they mess up my bill.

  • If you reserve the iPhone through the Apple Store - can you sign up with Telstra with this discounted XL plan as well?

  • 45k points appeared in my account today!
I waited 15 days after signing up and then entered a TIO complaint. The Telstra officer asked me to send him a screenshot of the 45k points on signup so I am unsure whether I would have gotten the points without reaching out to the ombudsman.

    • Which screenshot you send? I am also waiting for telstra plus points. Tried telstra chat few times. Waste of time.

    • I contacted Live Chat again yesterday and was told that the 45k bonus points was only available if signing up with a phone after first being told it can take 10 business days.

Yes they are hopeless and am gonna try again.

      • +2

Don't bother with live chat, waste of time and energy. Raise a complaint with TIO and then they will contact you

        • +1

Yeah might have to I think

          • @Whatisthatvelvet: Raised TIO after I did online chat as they told me excuses about they are migrating to new billing system. I was like 2 months and no bonus points? Straight to TIO it is.

  • So how has everyone gone with receiving their bill with or without the ETC? My came without the ETC, so fingers crossed it doesn't appear in the next bill.

    • +1

Got my new bill and no ETC charged. I guess I am safe?!

      • Woo hoo. Fingers crossed!

  • I made a complaint about Telstra’s service I have been having.

They called last week and in that conversation I asked if I could upgrade to the XL plan with no fees and they said yes, I received my bill and got charged ETC.

Contacted the same person and he just waived it 😂

  • I finally got my new bill and no ETC. So looks like it's OK…

pretty good example of no risk no gain, kicking myself for not having flipped over to XL plan from within the app. Guess seeing the rule book a bit too much isn't a great idea.

      • XL plan still available with $50/month discount until 23rd Nov

      • +1

Yeah definitely took a bit of a gamble on that but glad it worked out! Wife essentially got a free P30!

But it was a pretty safe bet cause I'm sure you could argue your way out of it - especially when there aren't any warnings when you "upgrade".

        • Well the warnings were there in the text saying you may be charged, and minimum cost right now.

          • @wordsmith: Mine didn't have any warnings and no mention of extra costs. Pretty sure some others were in the same boat but they got hit with the ETC on their next bill.

  • I got new number with telstra, I am trying to cancel that number and have my belong number transferred to that plan/service. I am being told that I need to buy telstra prepaid sim first, then port number from belong, and then change that number to the existing telstra plan.
I know many people have signed up to new telstra number and then changed to their old number. Can someone please help?

  • Does anyone have a screenshot saying the offer will expire on Nov 16th? I'm having troubles with them telling me it expired on the 22nd Oct when I ordered it on the 23rd but the offer was definitely still there

  • Got estimate bill with Plan termination charge of ~ $408 after upgrade from TGG $59 deal. Contacted telstra to find out that it can't be avoided. Waiting for next bill which might take 2 weeks. So if ur usage is less than 80GB, better to stay on Jbhifi/TGG plan and not be greedy. I will try my luck with cancellation team once new bill is issued.

  • When moving from Jbhifi plan to the $115 plan, the first bill came without ETC. After that, I cancelled the $115 plan and then received a second bill with ETC. I contacted Telstra chat and they got it waived. Whenever I made changes to my plan, I asked Telstra chat to confirm that there would be no extra charge and took screenshots.
