See here but let us know if it works out:

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/1246/83748/cc928868-94…

      • Thanks, I will chase on this until they credit the points.

        • Yeah, they removed it. Let me know if you got the bonus points and how you deal with telstra for that?

          • @Modesty: That is very sneaky of them. Was there yesterday but not today. I am owed 85,000 points (20,000 for NBN plan, 20,000 for the initial cutover to their new system and now the XL plan 45,000) and am going through facebook messenger to get them (no chat works for me on PC or on mobile).

          • @Modesty: This is what they replied to me:

“ Thank you regarding your Telstra pts it will be automatically applied on the account within 15 days after activation or switching plan. You will be notified via sms once Telstra pts added on your account. Would that be all for today?”

I’ll contact them again in Nov if the points are not added.

  • Does this plan include Telstra One Number for Apple Watch? Have heard reference to it with this plan but can't see anything on the site referencing this.

    • +1

      There is.

    • +1

Yes it’s eligible - an extra $5/month on top

  • Hi

I can confirm live chat are upgrading plans and waiving ETCs.

I just signed up ( 2 months ago) to the JBHIFI 12 x month $99 per month, 150GB Unlimited calls and text plan.

Requested to be upgraded to the new XL plan. Got my $500 + ETC fee waived and plan upgraded to the XL.

Telstra app has updated and showing me on the new XL plan with 180GB, and no more JBHIFI showing up.

Gotta try now for the 45000 bonus points.

Telstra you are legends! Also thanks to Ozb community for awareness of this deal.

    • Bonus telstra points are not showing in the plan details now?

      • No, they removed it. But there are screenshots about which show it written in.

        • Yeah I took one yesterday and raised it with them as they owe me 85,000 now.

    • Did you upgraded today? Did you talk to agent via message telstra in the app or 7x24 live chat on website?
I tried a couple of time over the weekend using message telstra, feel like they can see the history of message…

      • Yesterday.

        24x7 live chat.

Keep trying and be nice about it.

        • I always get message said 'We have no agents available to assist in Telstra 24x7 Live Chat.', should i just keep refreshing?
          Thanks

          • @ricky93: Something wrong there. They definitely have agents. Try a different browser on a pc, or try through your Telstra app.

    • I gotta try again.
I've had no luck so far

      • Are you using Telstra 24x7 Live Chat? How to get a human consultant?

        • Yeah on the app. Just been saying "change plan" on the bot and waiting for a person to respond. It's been slow going previous times tho

    • Did you do via chat or through App?

  • Nice.
Ill try for it this afternoon.
Not too fussed if it doesn't come through, correct me if I'm wrong but Telstra points aren't worth much..

    • Depends on whether you got a device through them and how much you spend/if you got other bonus points. Once they give me the 85,000 they owe me, I'll have 115,000 which can get you buds live, buds+ and almost Airpods Pro. I used points from my s10 5G and the bonus 50,000 for direct debit to get the buds + a few months back.

      • Ah okay I see.

        I hope you get them!

    • 45000 worth 2 months plan fee (42000) ~ $230 normal price ($130 discounted), still 3000 points left.

  • Got confirmed by Live Chat that my early termination fee will be waived once it reflects the bill.
on upgrade page, i saw 45,000 bonus point mentioned. Fingers crossed!

    • Cheers Ricky. Going to give this ago as my app also says $0 change cost.

    • What plan were you on before the move to XL plan?

      • JB hifi $99 + 400 GC + $10 credit, signed up last saturday

        • Thanks, what argument did you have to use to get the ETC waived, none that I supplied seemed to work.

          • @wordsmith: I tried a few times since Sunday, just told them I want to upgrade my plan

            • @ricky93: Lovely, tried the same, and every agent kept saying you can upgrade but pay ETC

    • Some are saying the next email you get indicates the ECT fee…

      • Yes, I got that email, too. But I've confirmed with Live chat that my ETC will be fully wavied before I did that.

        • Cheers. Trying to get someone on chat, but man it's taking forever…

        • Did you get your email with your Order Estimate? I just got it and mine doesn't mention fees at all. It seems my order had already been processed.

          • @Munki: Yes, mine has a plan contract cancellation fee. Not sure if I need to chat to them now or wait for the bill

            • @ricky93: Chat rep told me since I was on sim only plan, I shouldn't get ETC fees, and it looks like I didn't get charged any either…

Just confirming cause I got the $65 per month with the Huawei p30 in May.

  • How many went through the upgrade process through the app and not with an agent over chat and did not get an ECT charge?

    • When upgrading, app says $0, however when next bill comes, it shows up with the ETC.

You need to speak to live chat and get the $0 ETC fee waived first, then get them to process plan for you.

      • The step of speaking with live chat did not work out for me, they didn't waive ETC .

        • You tried cancelling the order, or are you gonna keep trying to get an agent to waive it for you? My first try looks like a no go too.

          • @Munki: Requested upgrades first, and then cancellation, eventually went ahead with cancellation this morning.

      • Yep. Cheers. Trying to get someone on chat. Not even loading on my Telstra app…

  • +1

Felt like wasted my time, tried and no-go. Been told ETCs apply for any changes, even re-contract. Somebody there is not stupid, and eventually caught up with a wave of people chatting them up for changeovers with waived ETCs. What's next?…

  • for anyone who switch to this plan and get the latest bill, did you get the credit applied? I was charged for plan fee for next month, but no credit was applied. And telstra told me that the credit will be applied on next bill. But they also confirmed whenever you change plan, the credit will end stopped. So it means you’ll always lose one month credit $50 if you change plan, as monthly fee always charged 1 month before credit applied.

  • So from reading there are some people who have been successful in getting the ETCs waived while others no.
No real confirmation once done via app or live chat.

Can anyone who has done it confirm and provide screenshots?

  • Some people are saying ETC appears in their email from Telstra (the second/third email you get from them) with a PDF highlighting your cost estimates (email titled: Here's an estimate for your order).

When I received mine, it never had that on the PDF. I read it line for line and could not see any mentions of fees. Can anybody confirm if they have an entry for ETC fee in this PDF?

I know @ricky93 mentioned they had that in their email, but just want to see how many others also had that.

I was originally on the JB plan where you got a free Huawei P30 on the $65 per month plan for 12 months.

Chat rep told me that since my "plan" was a SIM only plan, there shouldn't be an ETC with the "upgrade". So yeah I'm not sure now until I see my first bill.

Edit: Should note that I initiated and went through the upgrade process myself via their website. There were no mentions of ETCs during that process either.

    • +1

Yeah I have the ETC mentioned on that email.

Am on the exact same plan/deal as you.

      • Cheers. Weird that we're on the same plan/deal and mine didn't show the ETC.

    • If the upgrade is visible on the app, does this mean I'm in the clear? I haven't received the 3rd email but see now I'm on a month to month XL plan…

      • I genuinely have no idea man. It seems to be very inconsistent. I did notice that when I checked my plan details prior to upgrading, it didn't have details on contract expiration or anything, so not sure what was going on with it.

        • Very inconsistent - mine very clearly stated that I was on the JB-HiFi $99 plan expiring in October 2021. What's going on with your systems and processes Telstra?!

Happy if it means us OzBargainers will get some extra value!

        • +3

If it's anything like my case, where I had no mention of ETCs, contract expiration etc, you won't get the ETC fee until you see it on your next bill. For me I was already halfway through the month and when I got my bill, the ETC of $393 was tacked onto it. Luckily I had chat history with Telstra to prove that someone told me it'd be waived, and I got it waived from the bill completely. The chat rep did mention that all JB HiFi plans will incur the ETC however, the system automatically flags it I guess when you change plan, and you won't know about it until you get the first bill.

          • +1

@chihaeru: I have a chat log of the rep telling me that I shouldn't incur an exit fee cause I was apparently on a SIM only plan. I'm going to have to argue that angle then, since I never pressed them to waive the fee technically…But thanks for letting us know!

            • +2

@Munki: Neither did I, I just asked if there would be one and the rep said there wouldn't be a fee (technically didn't say it would be waived, but it's implied I guess), that was enough for them. I should note, I did it through the chat app, and not through the weird messaging system they have on their website. Good luck if you do incur the ETC and have to have it removed, it took me a good hour or so to finally get a chat reply, but it worked out in the end.

              • @chihaeru: Thanks for the tip @chihaeru - I'm in the same boat as you as I confirmed with them that there wouldn't be any ETCs and made a point of saving the chat log and getting a reference number. Hopefully that'll work for me.

The new messaging system sucks. The 24x7 chat set-up was much better as it's clear when someone is available as opposed to casting your question out into the ether and having to check back in every couple of minutes to see if someone has picked it up.

              • @chihaeru: Chat app? You mean the My Telstra App? My "Message Telstra" doesn't load when I go into it…

                • @Munki: Yeah sorry I meant the chat section in the new Telstra app, if you have any adblockers on you'll need to disable it to get chat loading properly. At least I did, anyway.

                  • @chihaeru: No adblockers or VPNs. Mine just gets stuck "Loading…"

  • I wonder if there is any possibility of Telstra applying a credit for the other BYO plans.

  • Can this 5G be used as a substitute for home internet?

    • You can, as long as you keep to the 180GB allowance, which isn't much for home internet, I consistently use more than 3TB.

      • But how is the speed because Optus NBN is pretty shite

        • if your NBN speed is slow, its usually due to the infrastructure, eg, if you had Optus cable before, you might have slow speeds because Optus didn't upgrade it so, its congested. Unfortunately, it will be slow for you with any NBN provider, until NBN co upgrades it.

Who uses so much data? I have 35GB and I struggle to come close even with working from home. I have unlimited NBN100 at home though and use more than 3TB each month, but can't use so much mobile data.

  • +1

Was paying $65pm for 80GB with 5G, now paying the same for 180GB, very happy!

I’ve managed to keep a few $5 data share SIMs around too, one in the iPad and one in a hotspot. Don’t need the amount of data right now with Melbourne restrictions, but handy if we ever get out of lockdown.

Was on the $199 plan for ages (started at 35GB about four years ago, was at 160GB when I left) which was great value when paired with an 512GB iPhone (no extra $) and using the overseas data/calls a lot. With that off the table for the foreseeable future, nice to be down to this amount per month.

    • Hi there, i saw only 100mb data can be shared in $5 data share sim. Am i misunderstanding?

    • Oh what! To clarify, I can just buy a $5 Telstra data share sim and put it into my iPad and have access to my 180gb?

      • Yep! I’ve had a data share SIM in my iPad for many years on Telstra.

        • Do they still sell data share sim? I can’t find on their website.

          • @T-man: As I recall I had to be on a small business plan for it (have been for five years).

Whether they still order new ones I’m not 100% sure, you’d have to live chat them.

  • Signed up through the app and it doesn’t mention ETC. I’ll make a complaint with Telstra if there is.

Not a bad deal as it’s much more data, 5G and for $6 more a month.

    • Just checked my Telstra app, latest bill that comes out today is $520, about $400 more than usual. When the PDF bill is processed I guess I'm going to spend some time getting it rectified with chat support, as they claimed I wouldn't be hit with any fee. Fun day ahead.

      • Any update?

        • I managed to get them to waive the ETC fee, as previously they told me in chat that it would be waived. Took a bit to get through to them again for it but it was all sorted fairly easily.

  • Anyone using this plan in a 4g modem? Any issues using it in a modem?

  • +1

I have just had the reply below from Telstra live chat and I was only asking if the ETC would be removed if I was to sign up for it, not that I have already signed up for anything yet. He insisted it wouldn't be waived, then I told him there's a bunch of people who got it waived, and his reply to me was:

"I understand that ozyack but that has been raised to us by JB HI-FI Team. We were advice that they are seeing customers who have recently taken up a contract with JB Hi-Fi (to receive a $500 gift voucher) contacting Telstra to take up the $50/12mth credit offer on the $115 XL plan. We were advice not to wave ETC's for JB Hi-Fi customer's."

Beware of this when considering to upgrade via self service. Anyone who still manages to get the ETC waived after this, please share it with us.

    • +1

Yep tried a few times over the past few days and no luck whatsoever.

    • So I was getting impatient with Telstra Chat so lodged the order via the app itself. It hasn't said anything about ETCs etc. (I'm on JB $99) and I've just received an email from Telstra saying:

Thank you for placing your order with Telstra. We'll start working on it and contact you to clarify details if required.

My Telstra chat agent then came online and said they can help me but I mentioned I placed an order and didn't want to double up.

Should I just cancel the self-service and try and do it with the chat agent? Not sure how to cancel…

Hope my impatience hasn't led me to losing out on an awesome deal!

    • Spoken to like 6 agents and all varied flavours of, “No, we can’t waive them. ETC charges will apply”.

  • +3

    I just don’t understand.

If you can’t afford to pay the cancellation fee, don’t sign up. If you can’t commit the deal with Jbhifi, don’t sign up. You are wasting their resources, instead of helping other customers who are having real, true issues with Telstra, they have to answer again and again the same annoyed question “Can you waive ETC charges”. Many people out there just want to take advantages and don’t want to pay.

    • I saw someone from one of the last deals who got banned from ordering any plans from JB due to multiple attempts.

  • Anyone know if Good Guys plans are in the same boat?

  • Did anybody got telstra plus points yet?

    • No I haven't

    • Nothing yet here

    • No luck either. It's been 3 weeks of me constantly asking them when they will add the points, but nothing. Telstra customer service is pretty much non-existent and the virtual assistant Codi is useless.

  • Hi guys, would like some help.

I got the Samsung s20fe 5g deal for $99…if I was to ETC, I'd be paying about $600 (prorada included).

So if I break it down, phone is $600 /12 =$50 a month.

Leaving the remaining $50 to be for the contract with 150gb.
So at the end of the day, the 150gb data seems to be actually a good deal. Doesn't it?
Because for this deal it's 180gb for $65. Which becomes $0.361 per gb ($65/180).
    Where's the 150gb for $50 will be $0.33(50/150).

Am I missing something? Because I see a lot of people saying this (180gb) is a great deal, but also saying that you should ETC from the Samsung s20 fe deal, as there are better deals out there…. It seems if I factor it all in, the Samsung s20fe deal is a better deal per gb.

    Thanks in advance.
