Wow they missed the mark on those expansion cards, about $100 too expensive, normal NVME PCIe4.0 drives can be had for around $200AUD, so $250/260 would be about right, at $360, that's quite poor value.

    • -1

      Sick joke from Microsoft here.

    • It's 48% of the cost of the entire console which seems mad (compared with 44% in US, which is still crazy high).

I think I'd have been fine with 2tb at $360 (and probably been a purchase for me at that price).

That being said, overall the Series X and GamePass is still a way better deal than PS5 with freaking $125 pricing for standard games.

    • +1

More companies and sizes will be available in future so the prices will drop fast. Also this is a custom solution so the external card matches exactly the same spec as the internal speed and interface that you can get off the shelf and plug straight in the back without deconstructing your console. You do not need to buy the expansion drive as you can store all your games on a external SSD/HDD and just transfer Xbox Series X|S titles to the main drive which takes about 2~ minutes for a 50gb game using a SSD and about 10 minutes for a slow HDD, Xbox One can play directly off the external drives but obviously won't benefit from the internal SSD.

      • only optimised games for series x architecture benefit from xpansion cards - loading from external hd'svaries according to speed of external device - usb 3.1 fast mechanicals still being tested…

      1tb pci-4 for 200??

    • +1

The device hasn't even been released yet and this is an expansion of storage. This is an expansion for an unreleased device with only 1 player on the market currently.

I have a feeling right now only absolutely enthusiast with money to burn would consider buying this in the next few months and by then prices should have come down due to age and competition. Even given the above for pci-e gen 4 1TB it's not like it is a huge markup maybe like 10% and maybe that can be accounted for by the enclosure they had to use.

    • +2

No you can’t get a 1tb NVME PCIe 4.0 for $200 aud. I’d be impressed if you find one under $300

    • What ? You'll need to link your sources if you're making an extraordinary claim. PCIe 4 drives are $300+ so this doesn't have much markup.

    • +1

Where you buying this PCIe4.0 1tb for $200? lmao

    • Well I'll reply to myself, made a mistake, was in US Currency on pcpartpicker AU, so it was $200USD for a Gigabyte Aorus 1TB drive, it's $280 AUD so therefore by my own logic, $360 is only a little bit much, only $80 to have custom hardware for it to plug into a XSX so, guess that's 'ok'. My mistake on the pricing, apologies.

EDIT: Here's one link gets removed by automation fine search for "Gigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 M.2 1TB PCI-Express 4.0 Interface High Performance Gaming, Full Body Copper Heat Spreader, Toshiba 3D NAND, DDR Cache Buffer, SSD GP-ASM2NE6100TTTD "

Here's where the mistakes were https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#D=1&X…

You'll see the Aorus drive for 200 USD.

    • You do understand the concept behind supply and demand? Currently, there's only one supplier for an approved xsx expansion..

You think they are going to sell it cheap so some guy from ozbargain will buy it?

  • What's the difference between the two black ops listings, besides a $19 saving?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Call-Duty-Black-Cold-Xbox/dp/B08GS…

    • Two different versions Xbox One $75 and Series X (enhaced) $94

      • +1

        Wow yep…

        https://www.gamesradar.com/au/black-ops-cold-war-ps5-xbox-se…

It’s worth noting that, like with the PS4 version, the basic Xbox One disk will play on your shiny new Xbox Series X – but with none of the next-gen enhancements.

        • yeah now this so called confusion is caused by only some companies selling new games with free enhancement and others milking the new consoles by charging more. ie ea 505 etc

looking forward to seeing how eb copes because the advertised box says both consoles but the tradein pre-order is limited to existing consoles with a seperate altered flash.

I expect a lot of pissed off customers generated by milking cod

    • AFAIK literally just the case… That's the Xbox One X version, that will play on X Series X..

      WRONG. :(

      • +1

So confusing but research is suggesting that their wont be a free upgrade to the series x version of the game if you buy the cheaper copy…

      • No you're right in a way, you can play the Xbox One X version on Xbox Series X but not get the next gen patch

  • The labelling on the boxes is a bit weird. Why does it specify Xbox series X and Xbox One? Not including Series S seems confusing. If you buy a Series S, are you meant to do a double-take and question whether it's going to work?

    • +2

Series S is digital only, so you are correct in that these physical editions with discs will not work on the system.

      • Ha! Of course. Stupid me. A new age, and I'm getting old :P

        • Haha same. Not a fan of digital editions.

    • Series S does not have a disc drive.

Either way, there will be a lot of confusion for the next couple of years.

      • Oh man, now grandma can buy you a game that won't even work for "your Xbox or whatnot" … 😂

      • +1

Is the (lack of) disk drive the only difference? I was under the impression the Series S was lower-spec than the Series X, like an Xbox One Pro while the Series X is an Xbox One 2.

        • +1

The Series S is marketed as a 1440p device, and digital only. Otherwise I think they claim it's more or less the same as the Series X.

          • @skrot: Series S also has half the storage, which could prove to be important given the high cost of buying more storage. There'll be more juggling on the Series S.

        • +1
          • @ryang: Thanks, that's about what i thought. They could really have made this stuff clearer.

        • Series S = Xbox One 2

          Series X = Xbox One 2 Pro

          using your terms

Really interested to see if Immortals lives up to its premise as an Assassins Creed Odyssey Breath of the Wild…
