Gen 4. Stay away. Anaemic 512Mb ram and a 45hz screen just cripple this generation.

Don't forget the battery life. I'm using the Explorist which (you told me :)) is the same, and I'm only just getting away with it:

      The good:
      1. The watch is fully featured, you can do almost anything with it that any other watches do
      2. It looks nice and the screen is fine, really I don't think the 45hz screen matters at all to me or most people
      3. It plays well with google fit, which I like, and your workouts are nicely tracked even when looking at feedback on the watch

      The bad:
      1. if you plan on using the all the features, battery life is terrible. Today I woke up, charged it fully and put it on 10am (as it was just about flat from sleep tracking), listened to a podcast on it for an hour and now at 4.47 it's got 17% battery. When it hits 10% it goes into low power mode and only tells the time, so the usuable battery really lasts for me a max of about 6 hours. This means up to 3 charges a day (crazy right?)
      2. It can be slow to do things. I have the screen turn off to save power because of the crap battery, and often I press to do something e.g load an app, and the screen turns off before it's done (it's set to turn off in about 3-4 seconds). It's not smart enough to keep the screen on in these cases (at least not that I know of). Side benefit would be if you are rough on your watches, then the damage will be split across 2 watches

      What now then?
      1. If you don't mind that much charging (e.g. only wear during workout, maybe you don't sleep track), it will do what you want
      2. If you are willing to not use a bunch of the features (wifi, screen on, listening to music), the battery might just get you by the better part of the day. I haven't spent much time 'optimising' for my use cases i will admit
      3. These watches have been as cheap as 99 (Mistfit Vapor 2) and even less (there was a plastic one that was cheaper, maybe $69? do a search) then you could technically buy 2 and rotate them. This probably isn't a bad idea, I can't see any reason why not, and you could set them up differently for different times of the day e.g. work/after hours) and optimise settings a bit more which you might not be able to do with 1 watch, and it would still be cheaper than a single gen 5 (can't remember but pretty sure they are all still > $300

So all up, yes buyer beware, but if you are willing to inconvenience yourself as above you could get away with gen 4 wearOS

On a side note @adrianhughes1998 what do you recommend from the myriad of watches available these days?
