    Just keep in mind that this thing is running soldered LPDDR3-2133. I wouldn't stress speed so much as capacity for Ultrabook but still, LPDDR4 would have been nice for sure.

        No room to install one in later? That's a bugger. My son is looking for a laptop. Was hoping for an SSD for Windows and other programs and a 1TB HDD. Price to upgrade the SSD to 1TB is a bit hexey.

          You can upgrade the SSD yourself, a decent 1tb SSD drive is about $200 these days.

          Putting a dinosaur hard drive in this would be like putting a lawnmower engine in a Porsche.

    Posted this before but worth repeating again as a warning for potential buyers;

    Lenovo use a soldered on USB-C port for charging - if this is damaged it cannot be easily or cheaply repaired and will not be covered under warranty. They will claim it is 'user damaged' as it costs them too much to repair (quoted price is $1300 for repair).

    This port damages very easily due to a bit of plastic holding the connecting pins together that falls off quite easily - which then results in pins being bent by inserting the plug. e.g see these posts:

    Again - It breaks easily, Lenovo will not cover this under warranty and it costs at least $1300 (and that's without labour costs, expect to pay much more) to fix. If it cannot be powered on via this port you are basically left with a brick.

    Learnt this the hard way and won't be buying Lenovo again.

        Might just be a Lenovo part that is the issue? Or maybe it's all usb-c ports but Laptops tend to get more movement while plugged in? It's just a very small bit of plastic holding the connecting pins together. Once it falls off.. you basically may as well throw the laptop away.

        I recommend getting some magnetic charging adapters to save the port. Though these are a pain. Or buy a laptop that is more serviceable and/or has a better warranty.

        Nope. Had to escalate to fair trading and they basically just parrot whatever Lenovo tells them, "user damage, not covered, we don't use social media to determine something is a defect, blah blah". It's a ~$1500 or so repair, so it's not hard to imagine why they won't cover it.

      Liking my latitude right now with the two charging ports. I wonder the cost of getting it repaired at a private computer shop with your usbc problem

      I had both laptops. This one that was stolen 5 months of having. Feels so nice to the touch and swift. Can play some light games but nothing heavy unless you get external graphics through thunderbolt.

        Bare in mind those ports aren't completely equal. You will only get full HD to a monitor through one of the ports. Take a guess which port broke for me.

        I re-soldered a new LAN port on another Lenovo laptop (seems to be a theme) so I am reasonably comfortable doing my own fixes. But this USB-C port is a different level. You'll need some high end equipment.

    Ive had a gen 6 for a few years now. Love it.

    Would have gotten to upgrades, bigger internal storage or changing the SSD when you buy one. Plus the higher resolution screen, the one with max NITS of brightness.

      Some part of you statement is valid. You are paying for the marketing, chassis material and a 400 nits fhd screen. The rest of the components are pretty much mainstream. To me the Lenovo Ideapad S540 13 is a better machine spec wise, with a much faster CPU, for a similar price point or approximately $1129 if you have an edu account.

      If you make a basic comparison

      Chassis:X1 Carbon; S540 Aluminium
      Screen:X1 400nits FHD; S540 300nits QHD
      CPU:X1 I5 10210U quadcore; S540 Ryzen 5 4600U Hexacore
      SSD: 512 for both, can buy an Kingston ssd with opal support cheaply if you really need it.
      RAM:X1 16GB; S540 8GB

      The CPU in the Carbon is approximately 27% slower on average than the AMD Ryzen 4600U in the S540 13.

      The CPU is slow. More for portability and running MS Office not for photo or video editing.

    I no longer feel these are best in class for keyboards. I bought a Gen 7 early this year and ended up returning it for a full refund due too the keyboard.

    The three keys around the ThinkPad nub are all slightly lower then rest of keyboard, then after a week when the keyboard loosened up they say slightly lower again and due to this it was noticeable when touch typing the different key heights, didn't like it.

    Didn't have the issue with the X1 Gen 6.

    Have gone to a HP Spectre and feel it is a better keyboard compared to the current X1's.
