First post, hopefully I included all relevant info.

    • price in title :)

  • Can you include the correct link? Link points to all laptops not the laptop in title.

    • You need to customize, which come with extra price

  • +2

Amazing deal - I paid $2200 for a same spec gen7 6 months ago and love it.

    • For a FHD display or WQHD?

This one has only (14" FHD (1920x1080) ) display.

      • Fhd but touch

  • -3

    Wow they're getting desperate..

    • +6

Not really, just moving old stock before the 11th gen CPUs

      • Or the X1 Nano?

        • I figure the Carbon will stick around and the Nano will be the ultra light / more expensive model

    • Who's getting desperate?

  • +4

Why do all business laptops have such shit webcams?

    • +3

Because they are thin. the full explanation though is a little more long winded:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BLgS7m0W94

    • +7

do you need to see your colleague / client in 4K quality? I think 720p is sufficient to see who you are talking to in a VC.

      • And no business video conferencing software supports 4k

        • -2

So, collegue can not catch you doing something if you not suppose to during conference :)

      • +1

Yes, I need to see my girl in FULL HD (1080p). I don't buy business laptops to talk to my colleagues. Most monitors are 1080p too.

        • ah the ol' onlyfans "business"

          • @RaihaX: I had to look that up. Fk laptops. I want a 4k SLR camera if I was doing onlyfans.

      • +2

        So no good for onlyfans?

    • So the other people on the video call can't see the food on your face when you are on a work video call :)

    • Because there are things you don't want to see in HD, enjoy this stuff up

  • Does anyone know if LTE is included ?? Need a laptop I can put a sim card in for work . Tks

    • +3

If you customise it, it's available for $160

      • +7

Actually $80, discount is applicable to customisations as well

        • You are correct.
I didn't actually select it - only saw it

    • Thanks

  • Great machines. Paid $650 for mine on a graysonline deal and still working great 3 years later. My daily work machine. If upgrading I would like the WQHD screen.

    • Most go for over 1k now on grays :)

  • +1

Nice, 50% discount is applicable on all configurable components including all hardware upgrades, Windows 10 Pro upgrade and Microsoft Productivity Software additions.

  • This is the latest model right?

    Cheapest it has ever been?

    • Yes and I believe so yes

  • +1

Picked up a gen 3 at the start of covid for $300. Honestly the best laptop ever. Was using the consumer grade yoga series before and it's night and day in terms of quality difference. The keyboard alone is worth the money, let alone the battery life and build quality.
If i didn't already have one i'd jump on this.

Also FYI get the 16gb model, mines 8gb soldered on and it's getting a bit tight.

    • +1

      Thinkpad keyboards are amazing.

      • If you look after a Thinkpad they basically last forever. Worked for a companies that have done HP, Dell, Lenovo (X & T series). Lenovo is best by far.

    • +2

If i didn't already have one i'd jump on this.

That's one way of getting a new laptop.

      • Going to admit Got a chuckle from me

  • +2

Shame the CPU is still the old 14nm++++ version.

    • +5

With that many pluses it must be good!

  • 4k or 1080p?

  • I logged on to pull the trigger on the dell XPS 13 with IRIS + graphics at the Dell store for 20% off… then saw this. Also the thinkpad L480… choices choices. How would the Radeon 530 in the L480 compare to the integrated IRIS + in the Dell? And does the Radeon 530 weigh down the machine and battery?
    +

    • The new IRIS igpu on the latest 11th gen Intel is much slower than the mx 250

      • which laptop are we talking about that has mx 250?

        • Dell vostro 5490

I bought one from dell outlet for $849, came with 1tb nv2m and 8gb ram.

      • “much slower” no its not, thats implying its like half the speed

also youbare thinking of mx350 not 250

dont forget this effects battery life

        • no im not talking about MX350, im talking about mx 250

          https://laptopmedia.com/comparisons/nvidia-geforce-mx250-vs-…

          • @Homr: thats 10th gen not 11th 🤦‍♂️

            • @Freestyle: …..doh!

Thought Iris only came out in 11th Gen

              • @Homr: No Iris came out in 10th gen Icelake series which was only available on limited laptops and on the Microsoft Surface lineup

It was experimental but still improved their iGPU by a lot compared to Intel HD series

                • @Freestyle: is the 11th gen Iris faster than mx 250?

                  • @Homr: 11th gen was closer to MX350 so yeah i'd say so

It also doesn't put the extra burden on the battery so def get 11th gen Tigerlake over a device with MX-series graphics

Nvidia probably gonna release new stuff on that lineup soon though

                    • @Freestyle: 11th Gen i7 would probably average around $1500+, so I'm pretty happy with the dell vostro i7 10510u with mx250 I got for $849

                      • @Homr: yeah well, currently it'd be expensive but deals do pop up afterwards, probably black friday sales do

normally vostro i7 wont be that cheap, nice deal for you

  • +1

I use this laptop for work with tri screens and I can vouch that its highly reliable. Work requires I run alot of programs. Pls note webcam failed and I treat the laptop like its a feather. Eg no finger prints on it/ elevate for extra breathing. My 2 cents.

    • +4

Highly reliable because the webcam failed even though you baby the laptop… Okay you win, you broke my brain 😆

      • My bad I should say its a good laptop just poor webcam.

  • We bought a gen 6 for 1600-odd$ some weeks ago, that one came with i5, 8 GB ram, 512 GB M2, 2k screen and LTE modem. Not sure if I feel ripped off or not.

    • Either way it is still a Lenovo.

  • I'm close to buying a Lenovo machine after mine that I had for over 5 years died recently.

The education store has the Legion 5 15 for a similar price to this. It's the cheapest one here:

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5…

It appears to have a better CPU and GPU than this. Am I missing something or would the legion be a better choice? I don't necessarily need the graphics card so the entry level one is fine for me, just play the odd game now and then and usually older games anyway. I assume the X1 has better build quality?

It's $1,529 for the legion and thinking of pulling the trigger for that one

    • its ~1900 for me at that link you provided…?

      • $1,529 on the education store, managed to get a .edu email address

    • +1

X1 is less than half the weight.

X1 aimed more at the business traveller than a gamer.

    • +1

You are comparing a gaming notebook/workstation to a laptop you would mainly be using for MS Office. The AMD Ryzen 4800H, in the Legion, is a lot faster than the CPU in the Carbon. The 4800H Is considered one of the fastest laptop CPUs you can get at the moment. It can be over 112% faster in redering vs the Intel CPU in the carbon. Additionally the IGP and the DGPU are a lot faster too. If you want a powerful desktop replacement, ge the Legion. If you just want portability and CPU performance isn't a big factor, than the Carbon is an option.

      • Thanks, think I'll go with the Legion in that case. Rarely travel with the laptop and seems to have good reviews too.

  • Does anyone know what the battery life would be like?

    • +1

I have a gen 7 and it is very good. Easy all day for me.

    • +1

I have a gen 8 with a core i7 and I get 9 hours easy, but usually in the 10-11hr mark doing stuff like web browsing etc

  • What do people thnk about the L480 on clearance?

  • curious what makes this so desirable compared to a laptop with graphics card or a gaming laptop at this price with similar specs? is it just reliability?

    • +4

      Size, weight, build quality.

Great business laptop. I've had the Gen2 and now the Gen 6, I treat them like crap and they just take it. Love them

    • +5

Build quality, thinness and portability (weight) this is less than 1.2 KG), best in-class keyboard and great battery life. Also yes the reliability is up there with the best. This is not a gaming laptop and more geared towards office work, although you can still play rocket league or league of legends and other light games like that. So more geared towards business users, this would be an executive's laptop if that makes sense.

    • +6

weight (1kg), battery life, durability and to a degree availability of parts
I work in a place where they use hundreds if not thousands of X1 carbon and I have seen them in all sort of condition - clean to very dirty, immaculate to missing a corner of the case - but they still work.
I also bought a few second hand for my kids to take to school, and I have to replace one of the screen due to getting dropped, at the cost of around $100 (ebay) and less than 30 minutes of my time (plenty of youtube instruction)
Also this have non reflective screen which is better in brightly lit situation

    • Please find me a gaming laptop or laptop with graphics card at this price with similar specs and similar build form (thin bezel, under 1.5kg weight), eg, like xps 15 which is much more expensive.
      It does not exist.

    • These also work great with an eGPU over thunderbolt for when you need that graphics power, while keeping the benefits mentioned by the users above.

      • Hmm never thought about that before. What eGPU do you recommend?

        • I use the Lenovo graphics dock.

          Lenovo G0A10170UL Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B079JFW3YT/

Had to get it from US Amazon as Lenovo AU don’t sell it. Works really well.

        • I use a R43SG-T3 which you can find guides for on egpu.io. Otherwise the most readily available option in Australia from what I've seen would be the Razer Core X if you can find it at or below this deal price. Both of these require the GPU purchased separately unlike the above dock which has it included already.

  • Any advice on comparing this one to the Inspiron 15 7000 posted in the other deal? Mum wants touch screen :P
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/574878

Choosing a laptop is a terrible experience, much worse then desktop parts or really any other tech I buy. The CPU naming doesn't help!~

    • +1

You can add a touchscreen to this if you want, but with RAM and SSD to match the Dell it's about $1700 which is pretty pricy if Mum only uses Word and Facebook

      • Yeah its going to be web, facetime calls and lots of video.

Trying to find that model of Inspiron 15 reviews is a pain but the X1 us universally praised.

  • For the true Ozbargainer aka cheapskates you can remove the IR webcam to save a few bucks

    • But what is life without Zoom?

      • +1

Oh you still get a regular webcam. I think the IR is just used for face login.

        • face login is quite useful.

  • +1

This is still the best thinnest most robust laptop ever made the MBA comes close with the aluminium but it's heavier and the keyboard sucks IMO

  • Is it worth spending another $50 to get the i5-10310U over the i5-10210U?
