I think this is a great price on a USB 3.0 1tb 2.5" portable external hard drive at Bing Lee. Especially considering the situation in Thailand.

I thought it was a pricing error at first or possibly was mislabelled as usb 3.0, but it arrived this morning and I can confirm it is usb 3.0!

    Yep, good price and worth it for the USB 3.

    I'm tempted but not sure if I really need it considering I purchased a few Terra-bytes of storage just last week.

    Everytime somebody mentions an impending HD shortage due to the Thailand floods though…I feel I need rush out and buy more.

      The good news (for me)… Through nothing but good timing I purchased several 1TB WD Caviar Black bare drives a few months back for $85 each. Most stores don't have any in stock but others (like Techbuy) are quoting $307.30 each… sheesh!

      The bad news (for me)… I was planning on upgrading both my NAS and Drobo next month with 4 x 3TB drives each (they currently all have either 1.5TB or 2TB drives)… that would now mean an outlay of nearly $2,400! Just like you I think it's going to take quite some time to ramp up production and meet demand and even longer before we have a glut of these.

    I had a HP portable HDD a few months back and I dropped it at like 20cm and it died.
    I've dropped other drives at higher places and they are fine (I'm pretty careless).
    I haven't bought another HP drive since I was worried about its fragility but I'll be buying one of these :)

    though portable, it is not really advised to carry around as it appears the protection isn't great.

    Plus, Cnet says it is not compatible with Mac OS

      It can be made compatible with a Mac OS with a format, but you will lose the ability to use the backup software.

      Only because the drive is preformatted as NTFS which Mac OSX can read but not write to (without third-party utilities). The solution is a reformat to FAT32 (for ability to move between Windows/Linux/Mac) or HFS for Mac only usage. Of course the backup software is only for Windows but most bundled backup software is next to useless anyway.

    Ordered 2x on the 21st via phone. Got told sure, we have stock, got a few left. You will have it in 3-5 days. Got free shipping using "PAYPAL" code.

    Ring back on Thursday asking when is ETA? Say, no stock back order! Im like WTF! you told me you had stock

    Got a VM few hours later saying, we found 2 you will have them latest Monday.

    Ring back on Today (Tues), same crap, no stock. Ask to speak to person who took order, she says let me check why it hasn't gone out.

    They charged my CC on the same day of placing order, not when it actually ships.

    Just to update - I received my 2 drives today. These things are a thing of beauty in the piano black finish, although performance could be better (average around 25mb/s write transfer speed).
