[VIC] Ferrex Forstner Bits, Step Drill Set $12.99 @ ALDI - Delayed Special Buy

80

Cheap generic drill bits aren't always the sharpest deals that will make the cut with many people, but I think some of the sets on offer are decent enough compared to having to buy it elsewhere later if you only need them "just incase" or for the once-off job.

In particular these seem to be well priced compared to elsewhere particularly with Bunnings not dropping their prices:
* Forstner set - $27.90 @ Bunnings (https://www.bunnings.com.au/ultra-forstner-bit-set-5-pack_p6… the ratings don't sound promising to be worth paying extra), and >$13 on eBay
* Step/cone drill set - $29.98 @ Bunnings (https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-3-piece-step-drill-se…)

These "Assorted Specialist Drill Sets" were in catalogue for Sat 24 Oct but due to the delays were only available in VIC from yesterday.

Lavi also had the recipro saw and mutlifunction skins finally there.

If they become clearance items at $30 eventually, I'll pull the trigger and make another Ozito battery adapter

  • stores around me already had stock from Friday, queued up last Saturday for nothing but Friday was plenty of those cordless tool

The reviews of the Bunnings forstners are a surprise but at least if the Ferrex are as poor they're similarly easy to return.

Keep in mind that if you need a specific size for a project it may be better to grab that size from ebay; the kit may not include the exact size required.

Ebay bits are fine in my experience; grabbed a few Chinesium 17mm bits (less than $3 each) expecting to consume them or have a dud or 2.
They were all well balanced, razor sharp and produced neat holes in pine.
Job required about 800 holes ranging from 20 to 35 mm deep and the first bit was replaced about 2/3 of the way through when it started to require more pressure.
I reckon a couple of bucks for the right size beats $13 for a set containing sizes that may never see use.

    • care to share link to ones you purchased from ebay?

      • Hmm, seems they've increased in price substantially.
Some of the stores are gone or no longer selling them.
First one I found (below) is more than double what I paid.

At these prices, buying the kit from Aldi (even if it's just for the one size you need) is probably the better option.

Sounds like a job more for masonry bits and hole saws
