IMO pay the extra for Samsung 860 EVO after cashback

  • Can it be used as extra ps5 storage?

    • +1

not really, should be NVME at minimum

      • -1

I wonder whether someone really needs extra when you've got 1TB, surely you only ever need to have 10 games installed at a time

        • +5

Lol I have 4Tb. When you have kids 700GB is not enough what ps5 offers

          • @Jklaro: Well, that is just beautiful, and the thought of you playing PS5 with your kids is making me cry.

Ok, I'm going to bed now

@Gorian4: Ok make sure you go to toilet before bed.

I just gave you a reason. I think for Xbox you have gamepass who wants to sit and wait for games to download and install it's much better to have a massive library ready to go. But to do this it will cost you.

But if you are the only one playing the console I can see that 700 GB might be enough.

      • and even then apparently Sony has disabled the nvme slot as they are still testing suitable drives. Im sure any SSD will be fine to run ps4 games off though.

    • No, it has to be NVMe PCIe 4.0 and even then not all of them work. Why PS5 need such insane speeds, idk

        Playstation's are often future-proofed,

How is your 2013 laptop/PC holding up at the moment?

  • +1

I have one of these from the last deal I still haven't used…

  • Wish I can easily installed on my old dell optiplex 9010. I have already have 1 ssd installed.

  • Can this easily replace hdd in old laptop?

    • Usually yes, it's normally just a simple 1 to 1 swap.

      • +1

        Hardware wise sure.

        BUT

Copying the drive contents over or starting from scratch can both be a hassle. With some laptops the recovery of some of the software after a clean install might be painful or in the worst case impossible.

Also depends on how old the OS is. Anything older than Win 7 is not going to support TRIM, which may impact the lifespan of the drive, though at this price it's probably not something to worry too much about.

It is well worth the hassle to go from HDD to SSD!

Everytime i need to use a spinning disk is so painful…

    • I used a crucial SSD to update my Lenovo Z410 from 2013 using Acronis (came free with the SSD) to clone the drive . Had no issues. OS was already Windows 10 at that point.
