Ugh David Jones, deplorable customer service.

Won’t neg the deal but they won’t be getting anything from me.

    • +7

Staff cuts… The people are actually really nice.

    • +2

The real deal is the Officeworks price beat. Expect Officeworks will quickly change price to $389 to avoid having to give a further 5% off, anyone interested should be quick unless they want to pin their hopes on black friday.

It's an extra 10% off if you're a David Jones Rewards member (so $350.10). I think the extra 10% off promotion ends tomorrow.

    • +1

How did you get the 10% discount because I checked out with DJ Rewards and no extra 10% applied.

      • I signed into my account, added the headphones into my shopping bag and the discount was automatically applied.

        • Can confirm; just tried it out for myself

        • Ah right got it you have to do secure checkout then the discount gets applied. Thanks.

          • +1

            @nightelves: doesn't work for me :(

            • @tencents: Log into your account the secure checkout will reduce the price even further.

              • +2

@nightelves: signed up, logged in, did the secure checkout but no luck. Even after signing up with a new account. Could be for accounts that have had rewards activated before

                • +1

@ciyborg: Yep, I originally had a different account with DJ, but the rewards was linked to another account.

Signed up the other account and added to cart and boom, discount was applied…

            • +1

@tencents: Yeah mine doesn’t work either.. maybe just go in person tomorrow

        • Doesnt work for me either.

        • +1

I signed up for an account and it didn’t work either! I spoke with someone from David Jones and they said ‘It takes a few days for the rewards account to be activated’. Which is a shame because it would have been a really good price stacked with the $10 Welcome Gift as well.

  • Those who have both the xm3 and the xm4, are they really worth the upgrade?

    • +2

Unless you really want better call quality, it doesn't offer much more than xm3. I would just stick with xm3s.

      • +7

Think the xm4 now allows you to connect to two device right?

    • +4

I have XM3 and have decided not to upgrade to XM4. The reason? XM4 is a downgrade in terms of Bluetooth Codec support.

      XM3 Supported Codecs:

      SBC
This is an abbreviation for Subband Codec. This is the standard audio coding technology used by Bluetooth devices.

      All Bluetooth devices support SBC.

AAC - This is an abbreviation for Advanced Audio Coding.
AAC is mainly used by Apple products such as iPhones, and it provides higher sound quality than that of SBC.

      aptX
This is an audio coding technology. aptX is used by some Android smartphones, and it provides higher sound quality than that of SBC.

      aptX HD
This is an audio coding technology. aptX HD is used by some Android smartphones, and it provides higher sound quality than that of aptX.

      LDAC
LDAC is an audio coding technology developed by Sony that enables the transmission of High-Resolution (Hi-Res) Audio content, even over a Bluetooth connection.
Unlike other Bluetooth compatible coding technologies such as SBC , it operates without any down-conversion of the Hi-Res Audio content (*), and allows approximately three times more data (**) than those other technologies to be transmitted over a Bluetooth wireless network with unprecedented sound quality, employing efficient coding and optimized packetization.

XM4 does not support aptX and aptX HD. Why is this important? If you work from home a lot like me and always connected to a Windows 10 laptop, you will only get SBC codec on XM4!!! (of all high quality codecs, Windows 10 supports only aptX which MS has licenced from Qualcomm). While it maybe OK for phone calls, music sounds HORRIBLE!!!

You could buy a BT dongle with aptX or LDAC/aptX support, but it's awkard and annoying. Decent dongles aren't cheap either.

So, as far as I'm concerned, XM4 is a huge downgrade and disappointment.

  • Maybe these discounts are before the Apple event on Nov 10th where they might announce Airpods Studio?

    • What else is releasing this event?

      • Apple Silicon Macs and possibly AirTags.

    • Rumoured at US$349, so likely $549 over here after conversion + GST, feel that's a different price bracket (from street price) altogether

      • XM4 RRP is $499. Its another thing though that Apple products rarely sell below RRP.

  • +3

Would be good if you could connect them via bluetooth to your ps4 being a sony product.

    • I believe they have special headphones as well for PS4.
And yes, I agree with you that it would be nice to connect these headphones to PS4.

Anyway, I have been able to connect my headphones to NVIDIA Shield TV, only caveat is one headphones at a time, so two people cannot watch movie or Sports and hear the audio on the headphones at the same time.

    • +1

If your tv supports Bluetooth then you can connect to tv and ps4 games sound will also come from headphones.

      • Yes I often do this trick. It's more not being able to use the microphone for online gaming. They should look to having an aux cord with a built in microphone so you could connect it directly to the controller and use the mic.

    • +1

I bought [this adapter] (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113924428144) off eBay for the purpose of using my xm3s with ps4. Might be a cheap work around but it does what it says.

  • Can't believe how fast these dropped in price, I have the previous model but tempted to get a spare…

  • Could not find them on the David Jones site anymore

    • +2

Did you try clicking on the OP's link? :/

      • Thank you that worked perfectly :). Wonder why they dont list them?

  • Need to upgrade my computer headphones, would they be any good for gaming? What i have now are Sony wired headphones.

    • The microphone isn't the best.

You can get a good quality gaming headphone for 1/4 of the Sonys.

  • Great for noise cancelling on plane rides to no where

  • what would be an equivalent wired headphone without the ANC?

    • +1

Why cant you just get a pair of the Sony and use it with the cable provided. Turn off the anc if it bothers you.

    • What are you wanting it for? Wired headphones are such a different beast.

    • Looking for a cheaper equivalent 😅

Same stuff more or less. Audio books and some music.

      • Ok now we got there lol. A friend of mine asked me the same, after a couple of weeks, he ended up buying a cheap set off Officeworks. He said the cords keep on breaking on him but he'll keep on buying cheapies every few month.

  • Waiting for below $300 XD

  • Can anyone comment on the comfort of this with glasses on?

    • Comfort with glasses: great!
But, these headphones make my ears very hot - a common complaint for the XM3 model.

  • black friday below 300?

    • Highly unlikely as the XM3 is still on the market

  • I Have MDR-ZX770-BN about 4 years old. How are these superior to mine? Thankyou

Son is a musician- knows more about sound than me - describes mine as “perfectly adequate” and he’d be ok with them.

    • If your sound player has LDAC support, it's everything.

Given that the XM4 doesn't offer aptX and the MDRs do I would not bother with them unless everything you connect to does LDAC. You'll get a drop in sound quality. A big drop.

  • Thanks OP and @numero8. Paid $350.10. Dont know why i bought it when i already bought one @400 couple of months back !! OZB is expensive !! :P

    • It’s hard to resist isn’t it? Just like with the Samsung T7 SSDs!
