Quick definitions/ translation for easy reference (this is based on very general usage and content commonly found on internet):

samosa = a fried pastry with a savoury filling, such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, etc and had with (tamarind + dates) chutney or (coriander + mint + green chilli) chutney
paneer = cottage cheese
aloo = potato
pakora / vada = fritters
roti / chapati = flatbreads made with wheat-flour dough
paratha = unleavened flatbreads which are cooked with oil, butter or ghee on flat pan. They are more oily and thicker than plain rotis. Parathas can be stuffed or plain. Often had as breakfast.
tikki = patties
idli = type of savoury ricecakes, made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented black lentils (de-husked) and rice. Often had as breakfast, more commonly in Southern India.

    Nice find. So as long as a Coles store have them in stock, they will be at half price?
    Looking to buy in store not online.

    • If they don't have them in stock you can always do a raincheck (if they still do them that is).

      • The last time I asked, they said they have stopped providing rainchecks. Basically just after covid started.

        • I can confirm it’s the same case with Woolies. Last I checked with them 4 months ago.

          I got a raincheck on the samosas from the last deal, no issue at all..

  • Thanks for the in-depth explanation of the terms. I requested it last time and very much appreciate it.

    Also how good are these? Tried my purchase from last time and omg…

      Great authentic Indian taste. Hard to find this quality in frozen.

      Most of the items listed above are North-Indian, vada is from south while bhel-puri is from the west.
      I would prefer Haldiram over any other brand for taste and quality.

      If you need more info -
      Paratha / vada / idli - goes well for breakfast
      Tikki / Samosa / Pakora / Bhaji / Bhel Puri - good for evening snacks
      Others - to accompany your hard drinks ;)

    i can confirm, they are really good.

    Go for samosas, not the really tiny shit one's.

    loved the Sabrini samosas from last deal from coles.
    if you cant get from coles, try indian/punjabi shop,
    Try Sabrini, haldiram and Deep(gets free chutney inside)

    all 3 are really good brands

  • Onion Paratha is amazing

  • The hot and spicy samosas are fantastic cooked in the oven and come with two nice chutneys. Nice to find a frozen food which is actually reasonably spicey.

  • Tried the Punjabi samosas and they are so delicious! Very easy to make as well.
