Thanks, also got this from @neo https://www.coles.com.au/ways-to-shop/membership

    • I already have contents insurance with them and already get 2 x points. Didn't get the 12 months free saver though, I think I got free $100 flybuys at the time

    • I would like to know how the 10% off affects spend x (eg:50$) for 4 weeks to get $50. If I buy 51$ worth goods and apply 10% off I only pay $45.9, does ot count towards a $50 shop for that offer?

      • Its one time use per month. What i try to do is do monthly items shop in one go so more the amount you need to pay in that one transaction, more you save.

You gotta spend $500 in one go to make that $50 max saving. One time per month.

Im on plus saver but do not spend much in one go. Max i saved was $20. Anything above $10 is worth it. Plus you get more flybuys points.

      • +3

I'd play it safe and spend $55. Or you could be the test bunny and let us all know.

        • +1

          $55.56

      • +4

It's not going to count as it needs to be that final amount after all discounts/promos. If you are only spending $50 then the 10% off plan is not for you, for it to be worthwhile you need to spend more than $70 in a single shop every month at Coles.

  • Is this the one that gives you 10% off once per month?

    • +13

Coles saver yes not with coles plus

      • I find that odd that coles plus doesn't give you 10% off p/m

  • +4

At checkout you need to select the monthly option for this free trial to work.

  • +5

Thanks OP, works on existing account that has already used normal trial.

    • +2

      Updated the post, thank you!

  • +7

Currently on Free 3 Months Coles Plus but seems like you can upgrade to Saver with the code.

    • +1

Yes you can double stack it!

      • Not sure it is upgrade lol, looks like Saver is targeted more for offline shopper.

      • +4

Coles actually suggests double stacking :)

Get the best of both worlds and sign up to both memberships! Use your Coles Plus Saver 10% off discount (save up to $50 off) on a big Coles shop, each calendar month, to fill the kitchen and bathroom (and your pet’s bowl!). Then use Coles Plus to top up with smaller shops whenever you need them (delivered or with Click & Collect) over the rest of the month.

          • @wisdomtooth: Can you use the coles plus free shipping with coles saver 10% off n a single transaction online?

        • +1

Together $26/M = 2.6x Amazon Prime. Some people only shop online and that's a clear win for Prime.

    • +3

Thank you, that is the real saving… 10% off once per month, probably since this is mid of month, we can get this 10% off for 4 months, May to Aug…

  • Can I cancel my current subscription and sign up again with the codes?

    • I would like to know this as well. My Saver next renews on May 26th which is outside the dates listed in T&Cs

      • Can you sign up with a new flybuys account instead?

      • +1

        Nope :( & a new Coles+FB account doesn't seem to work either.

        • +1

New Coles account with existing flybuys worked for me

        • This sucks then!

          • +1

@ChaseTheSun: Actually you can :) the orignal answer i referenced was wrong intially.
But flybuys keeps giving me error messages making it impossible maybe because the Fb's account didnt create a number for some reason?

    • +1

Doesn't look like it. It'll say you're still a member until the end of your month. image here

      • such a shame, hate when places dont let you cancel immediately!

      • ok thanks

  • +77

I hate it. Why does every store have VIP membership these days?

    • +38

That's because we are idiots and accept paying for a service that used to be simply given.

Ie All products should be 10% cheaper by default…done.

But wait….how about you pay for it instead…oh yes please!!

Take the freebie…use it. Never walk into Coles again…it will go away.
If no one bought this, then it wouldn't exist. Simple.

        • +1

Our local independent specials are always bang on 10% cheaper. They always occur either 1 week before or after Colesworths have a "special". So must be the same wholesale purchase

Example, Weetbix $2.00 local,. Colesworth $2.20.

The margins are there….and then some.

          • +21

@tunzafun001: My local independent is always at least 20% more expensive. If you are able to shop somewhere cheaper then shop somewhere cheaper.

            • +9

@dtc: Same here. People hate Colesworth but there are no cheaper alternatives for me. IGA and Hillstreet are the only other options here and they are at least 20% more expensive and often more.

              • +5

@tessel: Need to 'time your run' for the independents. When it rains…put out your buckets.

What we eat during the week is determined by the specials.

ie. $2 weetbix - bought 10 boxes. They had milk reduced to $2 for 3 litres. I bought 3, froze 2.

Mushrooms on special and they always have 2 hot chooks for $16. That becomes chicken night 1, chicken risotto night 2, and Im currently boiling the carcus to make a stock for chicken and corn soup on night 3.

They also have pork roast for $5 per kg… Pork roast, then Banh mi comming up etc etc.

                Party Sized smith chips/ Doritos/ Kettle chips 380g - $4.25 Bought 4 bags

                etc etc.

Spent $5 at Coles for Corn kernels, rice and bread rolls.

                Take that Colesworth

Actually a lie…rice and corn from Aldi

                • -1

@tunzafun001: No Aldi here and time my runs? No, I'm not wasting petrol and more importantly my time visiting the independents multiple times a month. Hate Colesworth all you want but they are the cheapest here and yes I will "pay" to get another 10% discount.

                  • +2

@tessel: I ride my bike past everyday anyway. So no inconvenience for me. They have old school signs out the front…and they are always actual specials. Colesworth haven't had an actual special since pre covid.

By time your run, I mean buy up specials in bulk. Ie local independent has weetbix for $2 last week. $5.60 this week.

Smashes Colesworths last week. Horrible this week. I'd say on avg, you would be worse off with the independent. So play the game on your terms. Can't do that with Colesworths as they don't ever have the $5 pork etc.

But yes, ultimately life is how you apportion the ultimate currency (time).

I work one less day and move insurances, energy suppliers, bank accounts around, and visit a couple of shops.

Found I was better off working less.

But your scenario may be different, and with Colesworths huge profits, it would seem your position is more the norm.

Pity you don't have an Aldi. Probably the best of the least effort supermarkets.

        • +16

Colesworth's profit margins are higher than almost every other supermarket in the world.

We're being bent over without lube.

          • +13

@Big L: Colesworths are being cracked down while Bunnings is laughing at nearly double their profit margins.

            • +5

@bcYield: Colesworth had scrutiny and nothing came of it, as usual.

Qantas should be looked at, but they've got too much political support as "the national carrier". 🙄

              • @Big L: That's true in every country — remember Bush Jr bailed AA and Continental after 9/11?

                • +5

@wisdomtooth: He gave the industry $15B, because it was another blow to them during the dot-com down turn.

Yes, I was annoyed at Qantas getting free money anyway, then they illegally sacked thousands of people to make it worse. The German government got 5% of Lufthansa for bailing them out during COVID. We got burnt.

But that's not why they should be under scrutiny in my book, it's the anti-competitive practices that stop competition and keep prices high, all while avoiding tax.

              • +4

@Big L: Yeah free lounge access for politicians makes them untouchable.

          • @Big L: Article is delightfully vague. Also it's the guardian…

            • +2

@Bdawg: Tell me where you'd like the information from and I'll respond.

          • +1

@Big L: Coles profit margin in 2025 was 2.6% - meaning every $100 spent is $2.60 profit. Not sure I would call that bending over backwards.

I know if I was to operate a business I would be looking at a least 10%.

Bunnings as an example is around 18%

            • +1

@dj007: Is that net of all returns?

            • @dj007: Coles' net profit for FY25 is 2.6%.

Their gross profit for FY25 is 26.5%

              Their revenue was $45B

Coles made a billion profit, announced to the market.

              How is that 2.6%?

              • +1

@Big L: Profit margin is the percentage of profit from total revenue. Gross profit is the revenue remaining after subtracting the cost of goods sold

                • +2

@dj007: That doesn't answer the question though.

Their declared net profit is 2.6%

                  Their declared profit is $1.08B

                  Their declared revenue is $45B

I know where the discrepancy is. Do you know, and can you explain it?

                  • @Big L: I’d like to learn where the discrepancy is.

          • @Big L: Who can afford the lube?

          • +1

@Big L: That's life in modern Australia. We're so used to it we've forgotten what lube is.

Sad thing is it only seems to get worse.

        • +3

          @wetsandwich
What you say is true, don't worry about the haters who gave you a neg.
I personally never use online grocery shopping especially will never use it for fruit and veg, and fresh meat. I have withnessed so many times the workers just randomly picked products which look so inferior to the others in the batch and put them into the online order bags. People already complain about how expensive Woolies and Coles are so I won't be the one paying superior price for their fresh products only to get inferior products deliver to me. If people are less lazy, there are heaps of fresh fruit and veg and meat choices which is better for your budget, I could never understand why the whinge but may be I am the moinority. I am not high income earner but I manage my budget easily with savings every month.

          • +3

@sistermay: Yes i dont trust a random grabbing fresh stuff for me like fruit/veg/meat etc. I ALWAYS grab ALL items from the back when shopping, and now my kids do too when they help, well trained.

            • +4

@nepalesesquirrel: This is not always the case at Coleworth! Often they put new stock in front of old stock so the fresher stuff is at front - in dairy grocery etc Make sure you check Use By Dates I've learnt even Colesworth staff can be lazy! When I was at high school/uni worked at the local Foodland -we were trained to put fresh stock at BACK, not front

            • +2
          • +3

@sistermay: I agree. Tons of great greengrocer and butcher delivery options.

It's a bad habit buying those from any of the supermarkets; the quality is inferior and prices higher.

        • -1

Oh really? I wouldn’t have guessed you worked with them!

        • +1

You can do the same by buying online and click and collect/ direct to boot if you are scared of walking into the store and buying extra junk. I never walk into stores, I buy everything online.

For people saying colesworth is cheaper, i think you guys should talk to the suppliers / manufacturers on why that is. Its because they are raped and pillaged in order to provide cheaper prices TO ONLY colesworth. The strategy behind this is to get everyone believing they are cheaper and to only shop from them. Then over time to reduce the variety of products and different labels besides their own homebrand labels . Plus this also reduces independent store competition.

Once competition has reduced or cant compete, prices are high. People who think colesworth are cheap should look overseas on how their grocery stores operate and on what profit margins and as well as what kind of control they have over their local market.

From what the reports that came out, Colesworth are amongst the most profitable supermarkets in the world!

But yes, lets feel sorry for them

        • Your point seems to be that people shouldn't criticise Coles because some people are subject to a monopoly and what Coles offer is pretty good in that situation. I appreciate your situation, but I can shop at literally any supermarket, and I'd suggest most Australian's would be in the same boat.

Colesworth are literally playing funny buggers and maximising their position at every transaction. I don't like it, plenty of people don't like it, and I try not to give them my money as a consequence.

    • $$$

OP - you got your code the other way around

    Should be SAVERFREE

    • Updated, thanks!

  • +4

The code is SAVERFREE, not FREESAVER.

  • Thank you OP. Got it. :)

  • Can you get both or do you choose one?

    • +3

I was able to do both. I've never had either before though.

    • +2

I was able to do both and I'd had plus in the past

  • +8

Tried signing up for Coles Plus and it kept trying to charge $19 to my card despite showing free in cart. Luckily I used my Revolut card with only a few dollars in it so the transaction didn't go through.

Had the same issue last time, it took about 2 weeks for them to refund.
Chose paypal option this time and was not charged anything.

        Thanks. Worked with PayPal.

    • Same here

  • +1

Worked thanks OP. I wasn't signed up to Coles Plus at all so signed up to Coles Plus with PLUSFREE then signed up to Coles Plus Saver with SAVERFREE.

    • So did u get 6 months free ?

  • Thanks OP.
The Saver one uses flybuys so you must have that linked before you sign up

  • +1

The Saver code is actually SAVERFREE, not FREESAVER. The one in the post doesn't work and the correct one is in the terms and conditions.

Edit: too slow, I had the post open and didn't refresh to see I was far from the first person to post this.

    • +1

Coles is not viable for a big shop at my local stores anymore.

      Change stores then…

      Ours is fine….

    • +3

      Supply and demand….

Grow some fruit and veg, get some chooks, buy from a butcher/ fruit and veg store.

The ONLY way you stop it. But will never happen…as we are all trained that we must work every second of our lives.

Im currently on leave with out pay. Doing the things in sentence 2/ swapping insurances/ got solar batteries/ not paying for fuel/ making credit card/ Flybuy points etc work/ playing with kids in garden instead… Life changing.

    • If you want to cost them cash, it's costing them money for customers to do click and collect.

They need more staff for a free service. It's a better strategy than waiting in line for a cashier or paying cash if you want to 'protest'.
