Hi,

I know most of us know about this already, but if you sign up and put your birthday in, they will send you a $50 voucher to use in store for your birthday.

I've used it before and it works out good..

Normally $50 will get you a pair of pants on sale (normally $99) or 6 pairs of socks or two decent ties.

Enjoy!

Mod: This is a duplicate but as it's been over a year since this was posted then the post stands. Duplicates are generally considered to be less than 6 months old

Mod: Tarocash has ceased their birthday offer due to fraudulent submissions.

This is already in the wiki for birthday deals, thanks though :)

Wished I'd known this wiki exists 2 weeks ago… :(

  • Aww man! My birthday was just over 20 days ago…

    • +13

Shit, will you look at that… My birthday is next week :D

      • +1

You may also be interested to know, they don't particularly care about gender, either. So, it just so happens that my partner's birthday is a few days after mine… at least, it is according to Tarocash. That way, I get $100/yr in vouchers.

        • +4

I am interested in that, thank you!
As an only child, I'm glad I have so many brothers and sisters :D

    • +2

you could accidently on purpose get the month wrong…

      • You mean like I did? ;)
(Pretty close time tag I know :P)

    • +1

20 days ago? Meh… get me a Delorian and one point twenty-one gigawatts - problem solved.

  • hmm will they check your ID?

    • +1

nope :) just present the voucher. I have had my wife go in for me once.. :)

  • +3

hahaha does that mean that my birthday can be any day I like? :)

    • I never post my real birthday on any internet site - just basic security, really. Your actual date of birth is of no significance for the majority of things, so don't give it. Consider that they may already have your name, address and cc details in many cases.

  • I got a belt last year. But nothing came in the mail this year. :(

    • Aussie post prob noticed that its free money & no one will report it 'missing' so to speak.. as most people arent 'really' expecting it.

  • +1

you lost your mojo after the free mug ;)

  • I wonder if they will be suspicious of a lot of new users with the same birthday signing up around that day

  • +2

i'vee had one two years in a row. i feel bad that the only two times i've shopped there it's using the voucher and conveniently picking out items to $50….but i guess that is ozbargain spirit!

    • +2

They dont specify "minimum spend $50.01" right ? :P haha.

  • +1

Just so people know; once you have signed up, you can not change your date of birth later on.

  • +4

me and my 11 brothers are going to enjoy next year

(just kidding, only signed up once using my real bday)

  • just my luck… it'll conveniently be my birthday twice next week! :D ;)

    • lol last Xmas Rebel and Amart where giving $50 vouchers to signup. I signed up all my family around town (but using fake email addresses so wouldn't spam them), then emailed them saying "Merry Xmas".

and yes, I'll be doing same with Tarocash, and it looks like I'll never have to buy another birthday present again :)

  • To Tarocash's credit the two stores I have used my b'day voucher at have been very cool at accepting it. I have spent over the $50 and it was actually the reason I started shopping there (never paid it any attention before the promotion).

The gift card they send you is presented quite well, looks like an actual gift and doesn't mention anything about being a freebie. It does have a rather short expiry date but there are plenty of items starting from $10 and upwards that you could use it on.

  • +2

I've received my $50 card for the last 2 years in a row. No problems using it, havent been asked for ID.

Good deal, however OP should have checked if it was already posted -

Tarocash shop assistants have got to be the absolute worst there are around. They hassle you non stop, are overbearing and give ridiculously exaggerated comments ("oh my god you look amazing" to every of their horrible shirts I tried on)

If it weren't for their $50 voucher (being the cheapskate I am), I wouldn't shop there at all. Terrible fit on most of their items, atrocious shirt colours and general poor quality. Only good for a belt, few socks and occasional tie/scarf.

    • yes the clothes are atrocious, they dont earn the name Tarobogan for nothing. I get this voucher every year and use it on a shirt and gift it to someone else.

    • I also don't like the way the company seems to expect their assistants to behave. Not enough breathing space to pick something you really like.

Walked into a Tarocash store a year ago with my $50 voucher. Stupidly walked out $30 poorer with a shirt I haven't worn yet.

      • Yeah the girl that served me last time was very pushy and loud and seemed to love every shirt I tried on. They hover over you the whole time you are in stores picking things out and it just sours the experience. I only ever get something that is totally free with the voucher. The shirt I got last time feels terribly cheap and stiff, poor fit but for free is fine.

        • just get a basic white t-shirt. problem solved

        • This is so true.
          THAT LOOKS GREAT ON YOU!!!!!
"Err, get out of my dressing room; I'm still naked."

      • If you think that's bad. Try shopping for underwear in Malaysia's department stores. The sales people (usually female) would hover very close by.

      • I walked in this year with my voucher, but left empty handed after the assistant wouldn't leave me alone!

The year before though I got a sweet shirt and a cheap tie.

  • Forgot to use my voucher last year, held on to it way after the expiry date cause i couldn't stand it that i let it expire, what a waste.
Use mine this year, got a $90 shirt, for $40. Would never buy a $90 shirt normally. Wore it to my birthday party.

    Dupe

  • +1

Great! My birthday is in 3 days.

    • Bollocks. They're mailed so anyone who has a birthday within the next 6 weeks according to the site probably won't get their voucher.

    • plus 1 for being born on the 29/11

  • Do you get a voucher every year? Or just once? Because I havent received mine this year =(

    • +1

Please note, birthday vouchers are processed and mailed the month prior. If your birthday falls within 6 weeks of today's date you may not receive your first voucher until the following month. You are however still eligible for a chance to win a $100 voucher in this month's "win a $100 voucher" draw.

that leads me to believe it will come next month

  • i cant get this work. fill up the form then press submit, there is a box pop up saying please log in to change detail..
    wtf?

    • I just signed up two ghosts, worked fine.

Check that you are completing all required fields.
If that doesn't work, try a password retrieval on the email address you're trying to use?
If that's the problem, try a different email address.

Guys don't go over the top with it, just be happy with a $50 voucher, every kid and his dog signing up 10 different people is the reason why not many stores offer this kind of birthday reward anymore.

    Just saying.

  • Got mine for the 3rd year in a row. Not sure why OP said "Normally $50 will get you a pair of pants on sale (normally $99) or 6 pairs of socks or two decent ties." and didn't mention shirts. They have the best shorts there, and generally the 'old' ones come down to <$50 :)

  • Lmao, my birthday was 4 day ago. I bought a shirt from there yesterday. Poor timing, I'll put my name on anyways for next year!

  • -2

Apparently you can only use it when you purchase something.

    • Can anyone confirm this?

    • +5

Isn't that how all gift vouchers work? You pay for something with it?

      • +1

you do not have to with this, every year I use it on something less than $50 and do not pay a cent.

        • +3

No, I'm pretty sure that's how it works. You exchange the voucher for an item in lieu of money. I'm sure you don't get to keep the voucher when you're done either…

(I don't think you got the joke nubzy)

        • +1

          Ahh get it now :)

  • -6

Just letting people know that you can get multiple vouchers by signing up with temporary/disposable emails. Just have the same address and same or very similar name (if you're that worried).

I've done it about 3 times.

Also if you wait for their EOFYS, end of year stock clearance, etc, etc. They'll sell their once $90 shirts for like $20 and $30 so you can literally grab several shirts for free.

    • You stupid? Do you want them to pull this generous offer away?

  • These vouchers are great.
Just got around to redeeming mine today.
Got a nice shirt and tie and didn't pay a cent. :)

  • +2

I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS DEAL!

This is an excellent deal, thank you very much for the repost, joshuah.

    • +1

^THIS, this exactly the reason why the 6 month duplicate rule is a good one.
Some people miss it for whatever reason and it's nice to have a reminder for them every now and then.

      • But it's in the wiki and has been for a pretty long time

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/list_of_birthday_deals

        • +7

Not everyone knows about that list. I've been visiting this site for about 2 years and only just became aware of it because of the conversation this post provoked. The majority of people aren't going to investigate every corner of this site.

        • +1

… yeah… I didn't know that existed until shadowshriek pointed it out up there^.

  • never got mine!

  • So has any had any experience where they've checked your ID yet?

    • +2

Well, I just lost my licence, so government has my ID now.

You could borrow my story ^^^ if they ask?

  • Just signed up, thanks looking forward to my voucher

  • no email confirmation whatsoever?

  • I gave my voucher to my dad, went into the store myself and could not find anything nice. The clothing is just sooo tacky/bogan and poorly made. He got a free pair of chinos though.

  • Lol I signed up a day or so after my birthday in Nov. They sent my voucher Yesterday. Score!

    • boooooo!

  • I got one of those vouchers and they had nothing but rubbish. They had 50 variations on the same shirt and pants. I ended up throwing away the voucher.
