TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - $990 iLearn eCollege

90

iLearn eCollege which seems to be better than inspire is offering the TAE40116 for $990 which seems to be the same price as inspire.

iLearn seems to be more organized as they have two different Cohorts for both Novice Learners and candidates with some Level of Experience with the Vocational Education and Training Industry (I refer to the Target Group Description)

The Course Fee seems to be a bit tricky - It has a non-refundable administration fee of $290 is to be made upon enrolment application and upon successful enrolment course fee of $700

Possibly you may not be allowed to enroll in the course after paying the $290 administration fee ?

Disclaimer: I have not followed any courses with iLearn and hence do not have the capacity to rate their quality

I encourage anyone has a positive experience with a budget RTO (course fee < $1500) to share their thoughts in this thread.

Wow the amount of nonsense certificates these days, can't wait for when they come up with the certificate IV in putting the bins out.

This actually isn't bad. It shows you how to structure and teach. A lot of people may be an experienced penguin farmers but that doesn't mean they can teach others to raise penguins. There's a lot of BS paperwork you gotta tick off on of course but again it does show you how to structure and guide others in their learning. However, you need another skill/qualification to go with this. A cert IV in training and assessment will do nothing by itself in regards to employment opportunities.

Each to their own. Honestly can't see why people would go through further study to have no career growth, unless of course it's a certificate in something sensible. Years back I worked part time for a big chain retailer who started hiring through JSPs whose clients had studied a certificate in retail (I assume there was some sort of government funded subsidy) but either way I thought retail was the kind of job you can get without any qualification to build up a career.

There's a huge demand for this qual in higher/further ed industry. If you are already working in the industry this is a nice little value add.

@o53djz7qTPY4der: Oh okay fair enough, just curious why not just get the usual Diploma of education at recognized institution that doesn't use stock photography or 'i' at the start of their name like this one? Are they sponsored by Apple.

      • Yeah looks good on paper but we need actual reviews because some post in this forum were critical of similar online providers such as inspire

Its actually one of the more useful certificate sif you want to get into teaching at technical college. This is minimum qualification.

      • it shows you how to structure and teach

Yep, in important industries and positions like RFS and other emergency services etc its very important to have structure in training. Did that myself in the 90's.

Wonder if i could get RPL that far back.. But a 300 admin fee puts me off… specially if it gets you nothing but a name on the list.

Or enroll at TAFE and potentially get it for free (fully subsidised)?
    https://www.tafensw.edu.au/offering/-/o/o/TAE40116-01V01-21C…

    • Fee-Free training applies to JobTrainer and Mature Age Workers Scholarship, if eligible or First Qualification cost $1,580.00

Will students not residing in NSW be eligible for the the fee free training.

  • So my TAE40110 is redundant now? By 6?

    • +1

Yes sort of, in 2016 they included TAEASS502 and TAELLN411 into the core units required and renamed to TAE40116. So now 9 core units and 1 elective unit, previously 7 core units and 3 elective units.

Thanks for the update and info. The 'spin' in education is a powerful driver for cash.

My experience with TAE and jobs.

-If you want to work a career in the VET sector then a TAE cert does give you a good grounding and understanding in how qualifications are structured, the importance of assessment, how to do it right, the importance of (endless) paperwork etc etc. And it's a minimum legal requirement to assess qualifications in that sector - but its only the minimum. If you are in that sector already you can probably get away with just a Cert IV, otherwise look at a diploma.

-If you want a career in the corporate education sector it's usually only needed (despite what they may put on job ads) if they are also a RTO or partnered with one, but the Cert IV is still mostly useless because of the competition. At one point, nearly 20% of staff in my previous employers call centre had a TAE Cert IV. Assuming you have zero experience, a diploma might get you an interview, a Cert IV will not.

-If you are already highly skilled at a particular subject (e.g. hairdressing or Health & Safety) and want a TAE qualification so that you can deliver vocational training on that subject then just do a Cert IV. It'll be your experience & knowledge in your subject that will get you the relevant job.

As a final note, I've interviewed a lot of people who wanted to become a trainer but had no experience. Despite holding a TAE Cert IV, they all had a very low level of ability to deliver effective and engaging training in the practical part of the interview. The Cert IV often does not seem to equip people with that skill so keep that in mind when deciding on which RTO to use.

Any feedback on the quality of the various RTO's (providers) in terms of how efficient or easy to complete the course

People who want to teach in TAFE must have TAE40116
