I've been using the AX92U for a while now and it has improved reliability over my old TP Link Archer wifi 5 router . Imagine this one would be as good

  • My netcomm router is pretty stable no issues with it. Does this have an increased range to possibly reach dead zones in the house?

    • Very difficult for anyone to say without knowing which exact router you have.

      • It's a Netcomm NL1901ACV

          Yes. Definitely.

However, best to use a mesh system. Asus AC67U pair will work brilliantly. - (90% identical to well regarded AC68U).

          • @[Deactivated]: Damn AC67U is expensive, so I need AC67U and RT-AX55 together?

            • @siraulo23: AC67U comes with 2 units.

Unless if you know why you need Wifi 6, otherwise dont bother.

Alternatively, look for AC68U on ebay/gumtree. Used ones fetch for cir $100 each.

    • This is a Wifi 6 router.. I imagine you probably have the old Wifi 5 technology router which is 'AC'

Wifi 6 has increased range and speed. To go from Wifi 5 to Wifi 6 is significant especially with new tech devices like PS5 and smartphones now being also Wifi 6.

Bought one last night to go with my other Asus for AiMesh.
The Asus MU-MIMO and OFDMA tech make a huge difference across multiple devices being used simultaneously! Big fan of the configuration GUI and options, regular firmware updates also, highly recommended

  • My neighbour gave me his wifi access pasword last night and asked me to use it as he is on an unlimited plan. I can see 3 bars in my bedroom. How can I boost that signal to my entire house?

    • You can get a router, and place it in access point mode.

  • Ddwrtable yeah?

      Use 'asus merlin' instead, https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/

Edit, does not work with AX55 yet
RT-AC66U_B1 (same firmware as the RT-AC68U)
      RT-AC68U (including revisions C1 and E1)
      RT-AC68P (same firmware as RT-AC68U)
      RT-AC68UF (same firmware as RT-AC68U)
      RT-AC87
      RT-AC3200
      RT-AC88U
      RT-AC3100
      RT-AC5300
      RT-AC1900 (same firmware as RT-AC68U)
      RT-AC1900P (same firmware as RT-AC68U)
      RT-AC86U (starting with version 382.1)
      RT-AC2900 (same firmware as RT-AC86U)
      RT-AX88U
      RT-AX56U
      RT-AX58U
      RT-AX3000 (same firmware as RT-AX58U)

      • Do you mind elaborate the above table? Are you saying RT-AC68U still not compatible with this router RT-AX55?
        Thank you for your help.

        • Direct copy from the website

Asuswrt-Merlin officially supports the following router models:

RT-AC66U_B1 (same firmware as the RT-AC68U)
          RT-AC68U (including revisions C1 and E1)
          RT-AC68P (same firmware as RT-AC68U)
          RT-AC68UF (same firmware as RT-AC68U)

          RT-AC86U (starting with version 382.1)
          RT-AC2900 (same firmware as RT-AC86U)
          RT-AX88U
          RT-AX56U
          RT-AX58U
          RT-AX3000 (same firmware as RT-AX58U)
(Note: the U, R and W variants are all supported, as they are the exact same hardware and firmware, only different marketing SKUs or different case color)

          • @magb3: Not sure what happens if you install it and it is not 'officially' supported. It might still work. I cannot confirm.

        • Also I just checked, AC68U is on the list

  • Looking for a router and modem for when we get nbn connected and rather not use the stock one they give you. What’s a good alternative?

    • Anything that is now 'AX' Wifi 6

  • Does this have VPN Client setup capabilities?

  • Too bad it doesn't have a USB port. The dual WAN feature on my AC68U which allows it switch to a USB tethered phone when the primary connection fails was very useful.

Will these 2 better than this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584849

    • I would be interested to know too

  • I still have a router supplied by TPG and on HFC. Can this replace my default router modem? I also don't use my home phone either.

Edit: Just looked at the back of this router, is the blue port the phone cable socket?

    • Yes this is correct. You would plug in the Ethernet cable from your NBN modem directly into the blue port.

      • Will this or the AC67U pair work with TPG FTTC as well ?

I too have the tpg provided router along with a few Tenda WM3s, but the tendas are so un-reliable and drop once a week or so causing havoc in the smart home ecosystem, just wanna stable connection now, even at a slightly higher price.
