80

Looking out there for my first cordless tools..

Honestly not sure if this rgular price or not, but came across to be best available comparatively..

Also Makita is offerring 5 years warranty to tools bought before 31 December 2020

Bunnings have a Combo kit with 6Ah Batter for $349

I thought $50 for an additional batter is better option…

Makita BL1840B-L 18V 4.0Ah Li-ion Cordless Battery with Gauge
The Makita 18V LXT Li-ion 4.0Ah battery, BL1840B-L, charges faster and works longer than standard Li-ion batteries, giving you and your cordless tools unmatched performance and productivity to take on the most demanding applications.

The Makita 4.0Ah battery combines more run time (33% more run time per charge than the Makita BL1830 3.0Ah battery) with a category-leading charge time of only 36 minutes, so it spends more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For added convenience, it also features an L.E.D. charge level indicator to monitor battery charge. The BL1840B-L resists self-discharge so it is ready for use even after long periods of little to no usage.

Features:

Integrated L.E.D. battery charge level indicator allows user to monitor battery charge
Up to 33% more run time per charge compared to BL1830
Fast 40 minute charging time
Battery delivers consistent power and run time in extreme temperatures, even in winter (-20°C)
Impact-resistant outer case and shock-absorbing inner-liner are engineered to protect the battery
Sixteen contact terminals maintain a constant connection with the tool to help prevent power loss or fluctuation, even during high-vibration applications
Battery resists self-discharge and remains ready for use even after long periods of storage
Sensitive electronics are protected with a thick gel coating, preventing damage against dust and moisture
Star protection computer controls - includes overload protection, over-discharge protection and over heat protection
The battery and tool communicate, protecting your tool and battery from overload by cutting power when put under abnormally high current draw
If the battery reaches a certain level of heat it will cut power to the tool, protecting the tool and battery from overheating

Seriously mate, if you're not a tradesman and are only intending on doing work around the house, go with the Ozito stuff. It's good gear, has good warranty, and is sold by Bunnings (whe also have a good warranty policy). I sold my ~2 year old Makita drill and impact driver kit because I didn't want to pay Makita's price for the angle grinder skin. With the cash from the sale I was able to buy brand new Ozito stuff, with the angle grinder, and have money left over…

    • Thanks for the suggestion mate..
Being a statrter to the trade, a silly qustion..

Should the Brushed tools need to be serviced and get brushes often?

      And less maintenance for Brushless?

      • No maintenance for brushless, but no you don't really "service"brushed tools as such. Once they start to play up it's a matter of opening the mechanism and replacing the brushes to get them to work again.

        Go brushless if you can.

You won't go wrong with this.
However, Ryobi. Better kits with more for [same price.]

      • I'm not sure how the Ryobi gear compares (haven't used it), but I've noticed they're trying to compete with Ozito nowadays.

I've personally only ever bought the Ozito gear when they've been on special (usually in competition with the Aldi sales), so I've gotten better value than anything else that's been available at the time - and usually with larger batteris (2.5ah isn't a lot).

Bunnings have a combo with 5Ah as well for $299 which has the same models of drivers.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18v-2-piece-brushless-cor…

The $349 one are slightly different model variants (can't find the differences though apart from the colour) but with 6Ah.

If you buy this deal I assume you also qualify for the free driver bit set?

    • I thought so too.. When I clicked on the banner, it took me to a page where only hand tools are listed…
I am prepared to ask though when i get there tomorrow..

Depends what you want you intend you use it for. If you are planning building a decking and doing renovations etc, then probably worth spending the extra for Makita quality/warranty etc. If you are just going to tinker around the house doing bits and pieces, I would probably go for the Ryobi 18V ONE+ 2.5Ah 4 Piece Kit from Bunnings for $399.
I know the batteries are only 2.5Ah, but you get 2, and for most home handyman projects they are sufficient. I have 7 Ryobi 1+ tools and in general am very happy. My Drill and battery I have had for around 6 years and it has been faultless. The only tools I find I really 'need' the bigger batteries for are the Blower and the Hedge trimmer. I have a 4.0Ah battery for them and seems to be plenty.

    • Thanks for insights mate…
      My to do list:
      1) floating shelves in 4 rooms
      2) Garage shelves
      3) DIY wardrobes
      4) Then maybe Deck after all the above turned out decent 😬

      • You'll do fine with either of the Ryobi or Ozito, even the deck. Hell if they start playing up part way through you just go back and get a new set anyway so you can't really go wrong, plus you'll be saving a decent amount of money.

Personally I'd go with whatever set has the bigger batteries (if they're similar prices) as you'll use them with other equipment if you start to expand into gardening stuff etc later as well.

I agree as per my comment above. :)

      Impact driver is awesome.

  • I have mainly Ryobi gear.. only thing I really lashed out on was the table saw, which is DeWalt (I did have the ALDI table saw, but found it to be inaccurate, flimsy and bouncy).

I've built a several things around the house, including deck privacy and railing in merbau(?).

My suggestion is you can get by with Ryobi, but if you can afford and you want to do, I buy the better gear :)
