Ordered 3.5" HDD from Amazon, and this is how it arrived...

I especially like how they bounced it off my doorstep.

Probably would've been handled even rougher during transit. Pretty poor effort on the packaging.

  • +9

It was placed down. Am I missing something?

    • +3

You need audio to hear the drop & bounce.

    • +18

      Dropped hard by a ninja.

    • Dropped from about knee height.

    • +2

these are hdds, small drops can damage the fragile internals easily i suspect

      • -6

Hard disk is in no way fragile!
Besides if there was no FRAGILE sticker on the parcel no need to handle with kit gloves
        COMPLAINT DISMISSED

Why are you posting comments in the style of Trump tweets?

    • -2

Yes. Driver rang the door bell first.
      Very good service

  • +3

dont order hard drives from amazon.

r/DataHoarder has many examples as to why

    • I never knew. The listing confused me into thinking it was direct from Western Digital. Turns out it was 3rd-party seller.

      • -3

        Manufacturers NEVER supply direct.
        Unreasonable expectations!

  • +1

I always buy externals to shuck (16TB Exos ftw) but I have noticed everything I get from Amazon UK of late has been packaged extremely poorly and the box arrives in terrible condition.

    • Which drive do you buy that contains a 16TB Exos?

      • +1

Seagate Expansion drives. Make sure to get to get higher capacity drives as the lower ones have "just" barracuda pros.

    • How loud and hot arethe exos?

  • +1

Amazon Flex driver…$108 for 25 drops.

    • +1

Geez that's lousy money. I've got no complaints about the driver. She probably thought it was a saw guide or something.

    • Is that the pay? 4 bucks per delivery?

      • +3

Yep that I includes your tax, fuel and expenses since you use your own car. I’ll attach a screenshot of run if my mate agrees to sends me.

  • +2

Wait, you actually got bubble wrap? Lucky you. Last HDD I ordered, all I got was a sheet of paper. They didn't even wrap it with the sheet of paper

    Kind of like this

Meanwhile, the toilet paper I ordered in April came in a big box (extra thick) with bubble and air packaging

    • Yeah that's worse, but not by much…

  • Congrats on your new youtube channel :-)

    • Thanks… after posting I realised I had a bit too much personal stuff on my channel and scrambled to create a new one.

I will smash that like button, hit subscribe, and tell you what I think down in the comments.

    Very poor indeed.
Comes down to who ya get it seems.
Guy who delivered my things yesterday actually rang the bell, and handed the items to me directly.

I went into a state of shock. "What is this interaction"

    • Nio need to ring bell if no siganture is required.
However the driver DID RING THE DOORBELL!
Your suggestion of this being very poor is DISMISSED!

  • +1

Have you tested the drive yet? Probably a used drive too.

At least that's the experience I've had TWICE with buying HDDs from Amazon, both used, both from Amazon US themselves. No more.

    • I'm not even going to take the bubble wrap off. Even if it's not used, I'd imagine it's been returned more than a few times just due to the packaging.

  • +1

Parcel delivery and enthusiasm do not go hand in hand.

  • Probably thought it was a book or something, not that it excuses this.

  • Because of incidents like these I do not buy any bare HDDs from Amazon. Only order the occasional External HDD (that also has its own protective retail packaging) when there is a very good deal

    • -1

      No incident here at all
      Delivered to doorstep
      Rang Doorbell as a courtesy
Perfectly valid for delivery under COVID19 retrictions

      PERFECT if you ask me

      • No problem with the driver, but hearing that metallic thud when she dropped it highlights how inadequate the packaging is.

  • This could be something to do with Amazon Europe, most of my Amazon Aus comes with fully wrapped, specially my toile paper, but my Amazon HD came in a retail box lol. You should make a complaint to Amazon.

    • I guess wasting packing material on toilet paper is the only way an Amazon employee can stick it to Bezos.

I'd like to complain but I can't find a link anywhere. I guess they want me to take the refund and shut up.

      • +1

I don’t buy anything from Amazon anymore after hearing about the way that their employees are treated and the obscene wealth that Bezos has as a result.

At the risk of losing access to OzBargain, I shop elsewhere and pay more.

      • We all bitchin on ozb holding hands not going to fix the issue, just add a review for the seller.

  • +2

Ok, not ideal I’ll admit, however hard disks are designed with this in mind- it’s non operating shock tolerance will be in excess of 300 G. Should be able to throw that puppy across the street and still run just fine.

  • Did it atleast come in one of those plastic enclosures used by manufacturers such as WD, Seagate, etc?

    • No, only as you can see at start of video. Bare metal drive wrapped in 1 layer of bubble wrap. Tape has "FRAGILE" printed on it, but the outer padded satchel does not say fragile at all. Not that it would make a difference.

      • -1

So you admit there was NO "FRAGILE" STICKER on the package
Interesting how this important information was omitted from your preface.

And both inner and outer layers of padding!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And no damage to complain about.
This important information omitted as well.

        CONCLUSION: Misleading and deceptive presentation.

        CASE DISMISSED!

  • Another time waster

    No problem here whatsover

    GO AWAY!

    • Time to eat a cookie and get your blood sugar back up.

      *hugs*

    • I think you need to go away. Half this thread is stupid comments from you.
