  • What's the best option if you need to invoice a lot of clients small amounts on a recurring basis? I see these budget options and the cheap Xero limit you to two billees per month which seems kinda low.

    • Odoo is your best bet. Free as long as you use the invoicing module only.

      • Do you know if Odoo can generate BAS report?

        • BAS print out, yes. E-submission, No.

    • I've heard of people using Wave and stripe for invoicing, I guess you could cut out stripe and just provide bank details or another form of payment on the invoice you issue

last i used wave was in 2018, can't comment more

  • If considering a cloud based accounting system - there's a couple of extra considerations that I found 'missing' in many of the version comparison charts

    No contract / no worries?
Unless you intend to keep paying a cloud accounting provider indefinitely, consider/plan from the start how you will maintain access to your accounts data after you cancel your subscription.

Do you need/want to backup your accounting data?
From what I've found, most only offer best effort disaster recovery backups - not the ability to download a full backup / restore revisions .
In the case QuickBooks Online - backup/restore functionality only appears in the 'advanced' version ($100+ per month).

Also don't forget to read of the privacy policy.

I can't explain how much I loathe Quickbooks Online. It is the biggest pile of shit ever made.

    • what’s your recommendation ?

      • I haven't used anything else. We're going to start demoing other stuff early next year for end of FY migration.

    • Hey @squiddles88 - is there anything specific which is frustrating you about QuickBooks Online?

i.e. Features / functionality / Is there a need your business has which QBO isn't doing well?

We're always looking to improve, so feedback helps.

  • I've been using qb online essentials for many years, can I get this deal too?

  • What do you guys think of Wave compared to this?

    • +1

I've been using Wave for the past year and while it has been great free product, unfortunately it is recentering focus on US & Canada market. Customers outside the US and Canada market will eventually need to source an alternative platform and looks like they are looking to offload non-US / non-Canada customers to Zoho Books.
New new sign-up is possible from 1st Dec if your business isn't operating in US / Canada.
