Acer Nitro 5 15.6-Inch i5-10300H/8GB/512GB/RTX2060 6GB Gaming Laptop $1398 @ Harvey Norman

140

As far as I'm aware, this could be the lowest priced RTX 2060 laptop I've seen on Ozbargain

The screen refresh rate could be 60hz as its not mentioned otherwise
i5 10300H
8GB RAM (two slots, can be upgraded to 32GB)
512GB SSD
Windows 10

Overall, not bad value for a laptop with an RTX2060

Not bad. Add an extra 8GB stick of ram and its alright.

  • Better off paying another 200 for the predator i7 and 16gig ram?

for $200, probably, but hard to say for $300.

      It is $1696

      • Oops. Forgot the exact price haha

I bought one of these for the wife… it plays Doom Eternal very very smoothly.

    It's ok. Not sure it's $400 premium for a rtx2060 over a 1650ti is worth it.

That one get's you a 144hz screen that you'd struggle to drive with the 1650ti, meanwhile this is a 2060 that could drive 144hz, but you get stuck with a 60hz panel lol

      • Planning on getting a laptop with a 1650ti. I have 2 165hz monitors that I plan to hook it up to. Will this card struggle with these gaming monitors

144hz screen that you'd struggle to drive with the 1650ti

Could you elaborate on this please?

  • I bought this (or similar) a couple of months ago.
As a non-techie, can a 16gb stick of RAM be added to the existing 16gb, or is it advised to keep memory at equal levels?
Advice from the panel of wisdom and knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

It depends if it has 2 X 8GB sticks or one 16GB. Most likely it's the former. So if you wanted to increase the RAM you would have to replace one or both sticks. So if you want 32GB then you'll need 2x 16GB. But if it already has one 16GB stick you can just add one more.

    • +1

If it has a single stick of 16GB (single channel RAM) then you can put in another stick. If you have 2x8GB sticks then there's little to no reason to upgrade to 32GB unless you know you need it.

If you add a stick it doesn't have to be the same amount either. If you put in an 8GB stick (for a total of 24GB) then you will get dual channel performance for the first 16GB and then single channel performance for that last 8GB.

Pay attention to the speed the current stick is running in. You can download Intel XTU or another program to tell you. You will need at least that speed RAM for it to be compatible. It doesn't have to be the same speed as your current RAM, but it has to be at least the speed that the RAM is running in Windows.

      • So if the laptop already has a 8GB stick, does it make any difference in speed if we add another 16GB stick or another 8GB is fine?

        • +2

          Either is fine.

The only difference for adding the 16GB stick would be extra RAM that you most likely won't ever need, and the last 8GB of the total RAM will run in single channel speed rather than dual channel.

The important thing is to have 2 sticks installed rather than a single larger one, as dual channel RAM makes a bit of a difference to overall system performance and some games really take advantage of the extra memory bandwidth. Once you hit 16GB dual channel then I very much doubt you will see any performance if you were to go to 24 or 32GB.

I think the screen is 60Hz. We had this deal in Aug.

      I can confirm this.

I went into my local Harvey Norman to purchase the 1650ti version (which I am quite happy with by the way) last week and saw that the 2060 Nitro had a 60hz screen.
