Thought this is an awesome deal. This is basically a 10900k with a tiny bit lower clock speed

  • with a tiny bit lower clock speed

    How tiny?

0.1 GHz lower base and max clock

      • That's true but the quality of the silicon used in the two CPUs are different. This won't overclock as well as it has a voltage limiter.

      2inches

  • Intel need to sort out their model naming, it getting really confusing. Sort of like a hint that a company is falling behind when they no longer cares about CPU model name.

      Big number better, how hard?

    • These didn’t exist until they had so many poorly binned 10900k’s, and these all turned into 10850’s. The A is purely for ‘avengers’.

Ordered it from MWave for the same price on Tuesday, along with a Corsair AIO.

At Intel our 14nm is the new 7nm, stop trying to milk from us.

i'll wait for the 11950KFC model

If you wait until boxing day this will be cheap as chips. It's been $599 on a few occasions despite the shortage of Ryzen CPUs. That will change by end of the year/early January.

  • +8

it's crazy how Ryzen's been getting so expensive. Intel's actually getting more affordable

    • +3

That's what competition in a market does to profits

    • +5

AMD has the better product. This has to compete in price otherwise who'd buy it.

      • people who have never used amd in their life obvs

      • +1

Intel fell behind modern marketing and now paying the price.

    • If Intel unlocked their motherboards they would be the value kings

      • I heard they were doing this. Not sure which mobos I read this for.

        • Yeah I heard next gen rocket lake boards will be unlocked. This would bring great price competition at the low end again

    • +2

Well Intel has been ripping off us so long, thanks to AMD price is now so competitive, especially laptop CPU. Otherwise this Intel CPU would cost $1000 easy.

    • As already mentioned, who do we have to thank for their price drop? Intel didn't do it because they are nice and friendly.

  • +1

Intel is the value King now!

    • Intel has only dropped their prices because AMD has a better product. Otherwise they would still be ripping us off for quadcores. Definitely don't want to go back to the days when 8 cores was over 1k because of Intel. Intel needs to get their act together and stop selling us 14nm CPUs that also double as heaters.

      • +2

Doesn’t matter what caused what actually. Which CPU offers best value for your $, for your need wins it at this point of time.

        • +4

That would still be the Ryzen. For this to be a good deal it needs to be cheaper still because:

          1. It doesn't support PCIE 4.0
          2. It's competing in the single core speed space for gaming and the 5800x still beats it.
          3. Anyone seriously interested in multicore processing will opt for the 5900x and 5950x or the 3000 CPUs.

That leaves it only as a competitor in the gaming space and the much cheaper 5600x is better value in that space.

This is a great CPU, I have it overclocked it to 5GHz and it's been solid for a month now. Super happy with it for the price and honestly can't see the value in an extra $300 for the 10900k

  • anyone recommend a good motherboard for this cpu?
Want decent sound and 2 m.2 slots
