Looks like an all-time low price for this mid-tier B450 board with decent I/O options (2x M.2 and 1x USB-C).

Pair it with a Ryzen 1000/2000/3000 CPU. Ryzen 5000 series support coming next year.

  • What are the advantages of B550 over B450?

    • +12

      pci-e 4.0
zen 3/zen2 support 3000 (b450 might be one way upgrade to zen3)
      better VRMS
      support 2.5gb lan (board dependent)
      dual gpu support
      wifi6

Great board at this price though and b450 is tried and tested compared to b550 which has all sorts of issues at the moment with bios revisions.
Especially gigabyte. They are on their 14th beta revision on F11n so many problems have not been ironed out yet.

      usb issues
      whea errors
      xmp
      c-state issues.

      • better VRMS

I don't think that would apply universally? I.e. a premium B450 board would have better VRMs than a budget B550?

If current B450s get future Zen3 support, then there's actually no features I need in B550 over B450… cheers for the info

        • +3

As @deashunboi pointed out this board is 4 phase compared to it's b550 8+2 phase equivalent.

Still a capable board nonetheless. No probs.

      • Please don't tell me this includes the gigabyte itx b550 aorus pro…

        • +1

it's affecting all b550 boards to some extent as far as i can tell unfortunately. I know because i'm one of them. (b550m aorus pro)
The issue is with XMP>3200 is causing instability with whea errors, and the usb2 port hub (i don't think your board has this hub). Although is seems not everyone is affected. I have a post on the gigabyte forum about this.

It also got a mention on Gamers Nexus latest video.

I think AMD are aware of the issue though. Just have to wait for latest Agesa updates and gigabyte to get their act together.
It's still quite a new chipset (including zen3) and needs some time to mature.

          • @Austrian Oak: Hang on, does this mean it's best to stick to 3200mhz ram for b550 then? (Considering its minimal difference performance wise and often cheaper)

Also what is a port hub? Do you mean the usb header where u plug the front I/o usb?

I wouldn’t say so. I had a 500GB NVMe in my build earlier this year. Never expected it to fill up so fast and it was full after a few months.

Bought another NVMe, popped it in the 2nd M.2 slot and bam I have more storage. Would have to use a slower SATA drive if I didn’t have the second port.

      • +5

Marginal speed difference (at least in so far as what you’re likely to notice), but arguably more importantly, no cables needed.
No extra power cables, no sata cables.
Fewer points of failure as well.
And just overall a neater look.

    any itx deal?

This chart suggests the VRMs aren't particularly good..

damn, I was going to run it with 5950x.

      • +16

If you can afford a 5950x, you can afford a better board

      • -1

you still can, just because a motherboard's VRM is "bad" doesn't meant it can't run "X" CPU. I have a client with a 5900X and b450-i rog, slightly better VRMs than this tuf. And PBO +200MHz works just fine.

Just paid $149 for this board at umart on Sunday, its a great board for the price.

  • If i'm not after a MATX board ie ATX is my usual build size, is there any issue going to this? ie i guess would it fit in medium - large tower cases? Be ok for big graphic cards still?

    • +1

No issues. I don't understand how you could think there are clearance problems with mounting a smaller MicroATX board in a ATX case. MicroATX is pretty much the same form factor as ATX except with less vertical space, so fewer pcie slots.

  • I grabbed the asus tuf b550-m for $189 over the deal period. $109 is a great price for a cheap build.

  • How does this compare to the ASRock B450M pro4?

Planning to upgrade my PC from i5 to Ryzen 5 3600

Thanks for the post. Ordered one.
Helpful explanation as to why 550 could be overkill for me too guys.
