Saw this on Amazon and thought it was a good deal so decided to share as my first post here.

There's currently a $234 discount coupon available at the link which brings the price down to $602. Pretty incredible for a drawing tablet this size.

Free delivery in Aus for Prime members too.

  • I was looking at these but not sure how they perform compared to a surface or Samsung tablet. Are these better than using a surface pro or Samsung tablet with digitiser?

    • +1

It depends on what type of performance you are measuring. These tablets usually tend to have more pressure sensitivity than a Surface Pro, and, the samsung tablet with a digitiser has basically no pressure sensitivity (if you are using a cheapo capacitative stylus). However, this tablet needs to be hooked up to a computer to work, while the surface is portable and can be taken anywhere. Imho, the surface pro has a lacking battery life and high chance of defects with really annoying customer service (nice, but takes forever to get something sorted out). So, I would recommend the huion with a desktop over a surface, but, it depends on what you want to do (e.g. for artists that travel, the surface is easier to bring around).

I can't speak for the Huion as it hasn't arrived yet. But I have worked on a Wacom 12wx, 22HD and a Surface Pro 3 and I can say without a doubt that I hated using the SP3. The screen was way too slippery and drawing on it felt like garbage compared even to my 13 year old 12wx. I persevered for about a week before giving up on it.

Newer versions might be better, but I wouldn't know. I know a guy who swears by ipad minis for more of a textured drawing feel, but I wouldn't go Apple personally. In fact, I wouldn't go with any drawing tablet that doesn't have physical buttons on the sides for shortcuts. I even had to disable the touch features on the 22HD as, for me, it gets in the way more than anything.

Happy to compare this one to the Cintiqs and let you know after it shows up if you're still interested.

      • Thank you both for your responses. That's very helpful. It's probably an overkill as I'm getting something like this for my niece. She's very gifted with drawing and just want to encourage her to pursue it more. She in primary school so probably not necessary for her. I really appreciate your feedback which has been very helpful.

        • If she's in primary school, I would recommend that you get a wacom one (those easily go around 50-60). They don't feel too bad, and are quite good for value.

          • @jwu56: Woops, double post. Not sure how to delete this :/

          • @jwu56: I think by Wacom you might mean Intuos, which I would agree with. Good choice for someone young who just wants to dabble in it.

            • @Hurg: I'm talking about the Wacom One range. It's the cheaper budget friendly range (literally for kids). But the intuos' are quite nice too if you have a higher budget.

              • @jwu56: Ahh, I see. I wasn't aware they had a model called One. Thus the confusion.

                • @Hurg: All good. It's quite a new range, but it just doesn't have the buttons :(

      • I've used the new surface pro 7, and it's quite similar to the experience that you had with the 3, but, compared to the styluses/laptop pens of other laptops I still prefer the surface. But, the pen is quite terrible for anything that isn't maths homework 😂

  • My daughter is a digital artist and swears by them although I do recall her saying the more recent models are not as good as the older ones.

Thanks for that info. Very helpful.

I got downvoted for thanking someone. What is the world coming to?

        • Hater didn't like your username.

          • @alidli: Do you mean they think it relates to sexual orientation?

My name is a play on homosapien. The bigotry and ignorance complement each other no doubt.

"Homo is the genus that emerged in the genus Australopithecus that encompasses the extant species Homo sapiens, plus several extinct species classified as either ancestral to or closely related to modern humans, most notably Homo erectus and Homo neanderthalensis."

            • @[Deactivated]: I didn't down vote you

              • @alidli: I didn't think it was you. Whoever it is, is an ignorant fool. S/he downvoted me because of their bigotry the first time and then because s/he realised how stupid they are the second time. A third time will be out of total rage. Go on, whoever you are, downvote me again you weak piss.

  • I had one before and it is probably one of the best board under $1000. And now its only $600. Perfect as a Xmas gift if someone is into digital art.
