  • How do you use this offer? You can only access it from the mobile app, and their is nothing to activate it before switching to desktop.

The desktop install links mention nothing about the $5 bonus. Plus you had to enter some card details. For $5 (you may, or may not get). Wasn't worth it (especially with the shopback security issues).

    • No card details required. They ask you for your PayPal id and mobile number as a minimum to withdraw.

In the app, it's a link to the Chrome extension so all you need to do is download it and shop.

I think the tricky bit for a frequent cashback user is figuring out whether you have used it before already.

  • Went to use this the other day, buy I used the $2 bonus like a year ago, so wont qualify.

Come on shopback, we need some more $5 bonus deals!!

  • +3

$5 from a company who can not even protect your data

    • Valid reason to neg or just having a sook?

      • +1

        Pretty Damn Valid IMHO

        • -2

You seem to post alot of deal about the playstation. They lost data too. Double standard?

          • +2

@PlagueistheCheap: Nope, They were hacked even after they had steps in place to protect your data.
Shopback is SG based, they have no obligation under SG law to protect your data and they did very little to do so.. hence why the breach was so massive

            Literally not the same thing!
If a breach happens but steps were taken to actively prevent breaches then its an issue but means it happens less.

Shopback had little to no protection as they are not required to under SG law.

SG has some of the most lax privacy and data protection laws in the region.
You share your data with SG based companies at your own risk… a risk that is clearly evident from what occurred.

            • +1

@jimbobaus: SG doesn't even have any real consumer protection entity, across all industries. Not surprised privacy isn't a thing there either.

          • -2

@PlagueistheCheap: Worse than recency bias that I assumed =/

            Pure hypocrisy. How sad.

            • @MadMaxBargainRoad: See comment above.
Not hypocrisy at all… Shopback did NOTHING to protect your data.
Sony, eBay etc actively work to protect your data as they are governed by Australian law.. Shopback is not

    • Do you also neg all the Amazon, eBay, Sony, Microsoft, Google deals too? Because they all have had data breaches before; or is it just typical recency bias.

Nothing is perfect in this world unfortunately.

      • If they were based in a country with very lax privacy and data protection laws (i used to live in SG and saw it first hand) i would have def negged them.
The companies you have listed while being US companies have actual offices in Australia and adhere to our laws accordingly. Shopback has a virtual office here and as such is governed by SG law.
The data breach was massive and was always going to happen, they have zero obligation to protect your data and it was clearly evident they did very little to prevent it from happening.

Do data breaches happen? they sure do.
Can they be avoided and protected against at all costs? Yep!
Did Shopback have any obligation to protect your data: Nope

So yes, my neg very valid.

        • +2

Don't start the war. I lost it. They don't care.

  • The link does not mention about $5 does it mean not eligible?

    • If you have the app installed you can see it in the Earn More tab.

Again you don't have to go through the app. It's just being advertised there.

      • But no mention of the $5 bonus outside the app. Also to install the extension you need to give it "full access to all your future web pages". It doesn't seem worth it for $5.

      • Actually I think the Earn More tab promo is there regardless if you are eligible

        • That's correct. Nor do you have to go through any links there. As mentioned above it's simply being advertised in that section.
